    Thank you for posting this video. It's been really helpful to us all in understaing how these modules work exactly. I managed to remove mine from a 2010 RRS by watching your videos in this series and I have just changed the gears in the gearbox. Similar to yourself, I just changed the gears for the clutch part as the other gears looked good. Waiting on new cables then I'll try to refit and calibrate the handbrake shoes. Thanks again!

    my focus cmax is doing exact same thing i have ordered same gears hoping they fit how much travel do you alllow on the travel of the brass rod ? square when its working

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I explained it in the video, it's not so much where the brass square thing is but how many turns the cable is screwed into the brass bit when the brake is released. If it's in too far, it will tighten when you apply the brake and cause the gears to slip. To set it up manually, screw the cable in 5 turns, this should leave enough cable to get the brake shoes on. Once the shoes are adjusted correctly, apply the brake and it will self adjust.

  • @ricardocorrales1080
    @ricardocorrales1080 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So if it’s making the first sound you showed its because it’s tightening up too much? Is there any adjustments that can be done before going thru all of that work?

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first sound is because the actuator has come to the end of its travel. As long as the brake will release, putting it in service mode and correctly adjusting the shoes will fix it.

    Really good video mate, did it work though with no issues when you put it back in? Going to tackle mine soon, it’s a biatch to get to though even through spare wheel as bloody spare wheel bracket in the way

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it worked fine as you can see in the video after this one. Yes the later ones had a big bracket above the spare wheel, makes the job more difficult especially when the bolts are rusted.

    • @GaryTaylorvw
      @GaryTaylorvw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi again, got it all out, was going to try fixing it in situ but with the spare wheel bar in the way got no chance.. so took it completely out, just got a question about when you put it back together, so you only rotate it 5 full times, put it all back together and that’s it, nothing more to be adjusted except the shoes ? Cheers, your video will help a lot.. just unsure about service mode setting

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GaryTaylorvw yeah screw it in 5 turns and that will be about the service mode position. All service mode does is wind the cables out to allow you to fit and adjust the shoes, watch the first video in this series and I explain it.

    When you change the shoes , does ot give you more adjustment, and then relatch itself

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. If it doesn't relatch then the actuator has over travelled.

  • @Justice-bx2ep

    If I replace the shoes and all the hardware will I have to readjust the cable or will it adjust its self

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Should adjust itself provided it's not over travelled. Put it in service mode and as long as you can get the cables onto the shoes and the discs back on without it binding then it should be ok to just adjust the shoes.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I've found, the gears are not the problem. It's all down to shoe adjustment causing the actuator to over travel. Putting the actuator into service mode and correctly adjusting or replacing the shoes should fix it.

  • @davidf.8497
    @davidf.8497 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mine is doing that funny noise. Do you think I may just do what you did, without undoing anything, to see if it puts everything back in working mode : Pressing the brake pedal 3 times then releasing the handbrake?

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's to put it in service mode prior to adjustment. It wont change anything if you put it in service mode and put the brake on. You need to investigate why it's over travelled. Usually down to bad shoe adjustment.

    I am writing from Turkey, I like your videos, you are the master of the job, my dream is to buy a 2011 model range rover sport as you have fixed the three-liter engines as you have fixed the crankshaft, the 2008 model is eight-liter vogue, they say the 3.6 diesel engine is more than the sport three liters, they say double turbo failure can give these engines 2.7 and 3.0 engines only have constant crank cutting problem If you were to buy, which model would you buy 3.0 diesel 2011 model sport 2008 model 3.6 diesel octıne vogue case This crank engine renewal process, which you made in Turkey, 4-5 thousand pounds of zero engine 15 thousand pounds of our money 11 times hit by our money, terrible prices come out.If I have it broken, I guess I can't fix it Or would you give up my love of range rover and recommend 2008 model 3.5 engine bmw x6?

    If you pull the emergency release while the Range Rover is stuck in park would that cause damage to the teeth of the gears or is the park brake module ok ?

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it wont do it any harm. Pulling the release just seperates the two cables from each other.

    hi, i've been following you with great interest since i bought a range rover sport 2012. a few days ago while driving the car i heard a loud hiss from under the car the handbrake won't come off i tried to pull the release wire of the device but the car remains braked I want to clarify that underneath there is not a thread of rust it looks like a car with no more than 3 years of life I cannot understand why by pulling the release thread I cannot move it even to get to the workshop.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure without seeing it, linings of the shoes may have come off and that's what's binding it. Pul the release again but pull it really hard with something through the loop.

      Been watching your channel love the Range Rover videos wish I lived closer to you to help me with my car. I need to adjust the hand brake on my sport. So by putting in service mode it resets the cables and you then adjust the shoes do when you use the parking brake it won’t over wind and damage the EPB module. Thanks for your reply.

    • @pistonbroke
      @pistonbroke  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, service mode puts the cables all the way out, then you can adjust the shoes. Once done, pull the switch up to apply the brake then release again. The module will then learn the new adjustment.
