That's one hell of a battery drain! That corrosion build up must act like a semiconductor bridging the two pins. Tremendous find man. Truly amazing work. Very impressive. Thanks for the video. I don't have this problem, but I watch these videos in case I do.
Very useful thanks would never have known how to fix all those fault codes coming up or the confidence to take that box out and apart. Had the exact same problem but changed brake light switch first in case but didn’t help. Cleaned up contacts with contact spray on that transfer case control unit and one of the spades had corroded so badly it had broken off. Opened up box easy enough. Had to solder a wire to that contact and get creative but fixed it. Terrible place to put that module, condensation alone will knacker those contacts over 14 years! I see they moved it on the D4! Anyway all good..All lights off and suspension back to normal height, gearing correct etc. Had a D3 for 9 years & still love it. Thanks again for your video, I think you saved me a small fortune and a ton of hassle. In appreciation.. JT
Big thanks for this had intermittent fault whenever I turned left, battery wasn't fastened down and the earth cable was pulling on the loom for this and pulled the connector loose Top bomber Thanks 👍
after doing all the pissing around personally..i think if i saw my Rover lights all off like in this video, and not always fearing for the next shut down and no start... i would cry so many tears of joy...and my tears would leak in somewhere and destroy my electrical again
Great video thanks. My 08 Sport blesses me with the HDC fault. Between 2 and 6 times a day with in a km from home. No bumps in the road or heavy braking but always steady speed and straight line. I replaced the battery, reset steering angle, cleaned every earth I could and removed the ecu behind the battery as was shocked to see flimsy rubber boot seal. Like u I couldn’t see any corrosion on the plug so popped the alloy cover off but never saw and on the board. Now I didn’t look at the base of the big conductors so did you just spray contact cleaner in there or also use say a brush to clean it. I might pull it all out again and go over it once more to try fix mine. It’s been doing this for months now…………limp mode, 3 amber lights and fault codes as long as my arm not communicating with any thing and every thing……
Hi Berhard, thanks for your nice comment. I cleaned the terminals using a toothbrush. The corrosion was really only very little at the base of the pins where they connect to the board, green tint on the pins. There are many things that can cause virtually the same symptoms for example the steering angle sensor on the steering column can be turning cause the sensor to keep throwing a fault. May be worth checking out www.disco3.co.uk if you haven't already that is. Good luck. Len
@@lazylen7199 Yer all good, I may just just revisit that and brush it as well. I epoxied the steering sensor as it wasn’t spinning but felt a little loose . Cheers again.
I had the same problem. Hdc + transmission fault + engine system fault on the screen. During investigation diagnose showed many fault codes including turbo, high pressure fuel pump, egr valves etc.. but later we found the main problem causing these fault codes. It was one of the injectors. There was a fuel leak from that injector. We changed the o-ring and never had any fault message since then.
Hey! You posted the exact same comment on another video I just watched. LOL I don't have these fault codes, but I'm trying to stay ahead of the game if you know what I mean. So when I DO run across it, I already have an idea. This bloke did some serious digging to find this one. I imagine finding yours was no cake walk either. (I'll have to google where the term CAKE WALK came from now also. haha)
Thanks so much for video, question: my faults clear, then I drive for a bit when I hit a bump all fault light up and speedometer will no longer move.... possibly same problem? Thanks in advance.
Hi, when I try to do a scanning on my 2005 LR3 V8 4.4 only the ELM is connected the ECU is not getting connected, can you pls tell me the possible reason for this. All the dash lights are on and the Transmission is F.
After spraying the board with duck oil I layered vasoline around the edge of the board and applied between the casing joints and secured with 2 small cable ties. Make sure that your battery box cover is on properly with the piece of seal along the back edge of it. Also make sure the rubber bonnet seal that goes around the inner wings and across the bottom of the scuttle panel is on properly otherwise water can get in and run down the back of the battery.
Great fix Len, you did well finding this fault. Is it still holding up. Possible the corrosion was not from a leak, maybe just condensation. Very good and helpful find.
I have a faulty TCM on my Velar 2019 D180… I am curios were is located… as I had a engine wash about 3 weeks before it went down… car is blocked in Parked…
So im out on vacation with my family and got this same issue. Car just died an limited gear and f and parkbrake etc.wont start. Im reading out several fault and im kind of convinced its the same thing. Going to open the box and check. But i have one question...why the steering angel reset?
@@lazylen7199Hi, facing the same issue. Did transmission overhauling and did all things reset. The fault codes still appear but i can see no problem even when I rev to 4500 rpm. Could u advise the mechanics are doubting now the electronic module. Thanks
I took the Transfer Case ECU control module off , no sign of any water ingress. Put the whole thing back together and still the three messages are still there.... Nightmare
He found some corrosion on the circuit board. He cleaned that carefully then cleaned the external contacts and the plug pins. It seems to have been a short caused by corrosion causing a parasitic drain from the battery.
Hey bro ot was the module or the battery??? I have the same problem... same but same really same... I checked the module and clean but still the same problem...
With mine it was very slight corrosion inside the module on the pins I point at. I had changed the battery because the volts kept dropping below 12.3v but this was caused by corrosion in the module. As soon as I cleaned that the drain went away as did the faults.
Mine trows the manufacturer controll code and it shows up all the break lights on dash i do have a broken rear sensor can that be why all lights turn on dash
Anything broken with electrics/sensors on these cars is going to give you problems. You can show the same faults with different causes. Could be low voltage battery, or brake light switch or if you have a brake light bulb faulty can be a problem too.
It's the iid Tool from Gap. They lock to the chassis number of the car. Buy direct from Gap or you can pick them up a bit cheaper sometimes from the disco3.co.uk site. www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/ Hope that helps

No, it hasn't returned. It's was the smallest piece of corrosion on the inner pin, slight green tint to it
