That absolutely are. They like to see how many people apply (even though they aren't looking to hire). They also like to what kind of salaries people would take so that they can repost the position at a lower rate.
With a bachelors in physics and 2.5 years of experience in software engineering, I regret rejecting an offer for a janitor job. I wouldn't be in a dire financial situation right now if it wasn't for me passing by that janitor job.
In the movie The Company Men, the main character, who was a ship building executive with an MBA, (spoiler alert) is laid off and eventually goes to work construction with his brother-in-law, with whom he didn’t have the best relationship with. It’s a great movie and it depicts fairly accurately what happens to a person who goes through the layoff process.
Took me 6+ months to land a a job as a manager at Amazon, one of the most cut throat companies. Several managers have already been PIPed at my location and they are looking to reduce managers overall. 1500+ applications but there are opportunities just stay persistent and never give up no matter what happens!
Yup! The ROI on a PhD. Is abysmal. Most with a PhD cannot find research opportunities in their field because of fierce competition and it is nearly impossible to become a tenured professor. On the flip side, it is hard to find a practical job outside of academia because a person with a PhD is deemed overqualified in any field…the PhD becomes a scarlet letter!
I really needed this video. I am literally out doing Uber driving right now, I’ve been doing it for a few months now. I encourage everyone to get on the platforms because they are mostly full now.
I am targeting roles with 6+ years of relevant experience and I’m hearing nothing back. I’m in a weird spot because I’m more mid-level but everyone is either looking for unicorn principal or senior level candidates or recent grads. There’s zero spots in between.
If you're in Software Engineering and/or Development, you always have your public portfolio in Git to be proud of. The ones that should be ashamed and embarrassed are those building faulty software systems.
You need to build faulty software systems to keep your job. If you are not constantly patching and just sitting around why keep you. Your fellow tech bro
Truth hurts. Most tech jobs are just fancy service jobs. If you actually know your schituff, go code pointers stacks algorithms etc company will still want you. But 85% are just dead weight.
Hey Bro. Just curious, do you think you need a break from all these TH-cam videos. Because at some point, you gonna have to do something else or go into a different direction. Everyone is going through job loss, and it won't be first and last time. TH-cam is just temporary solution. Losing your job or being fired is sad and agonizing. People can complain about it, (which they have the right to do) but at some point, it becomes repetitive and annoying. That's just life. Sometimes, taking a break or going to therapy helps. I am just trying to help, bro
Just my humble opinion, but I desperately need these type of videos because it makes me realize I'm not alone and that there's so many other people out there struggling too. He's a great speaker and we're blessed to have him talk about these type of issues, yah know?
I wonder if at this point they are just collecting our resumes for some kind of AI data analysis or something.
They absolutely are (100% in case of Linkedin)
They are also doing this to determine who is willing to work for the lowest wage.
Data mining
Yup extreme data mining then you get targeting for more bogus job ads, scams and to send your info for 1 800 numbers

You will come across another job. Keep applying.
Reach out to them again
Definitely reach out again, if you’re willing to do the work they can probably still use you.
this economy is going to humble a lot of people
Money is money do not turn down jobs unless it comprises ur ethics or morals
I don't feel like a loser, I just feel extremely unlucky.
My therapist told me the best way to phrase the answer to that question is “there were professional differences”.
Not sure, I got a feeling that's gonna lead to follow-up questions
I like that.
In my experience, a prospective employer will almost always lie during an interview! So if they can lie, why shouldn't the applicant?
Good point.
Even negative emotions have their purpose.
But don’t ever give in to shame.

Would never want to work for that company in any role.
Oh wow. Thanks for sharing your story.
I didn't do a PhD because the roi is terrible for most. You really have to have a passion for research and I did not.
This plus the extra time to obtain it.

Good thing you dodged that. Thanks for sharing.
If you're above the age of 25 you can barely get a job flipping burgers.
There are jobs that prefer people above 30. Some like welding. Pays much more too.
That's true. Thanks for the comment.

yes i feel this everyday but one way I can reframe it is that im alive and well , there are worst things in life than not having a job.
Good perspective.
Look at Douglas C. Prasher. His research led to a Nobel Prize while he had to quit research and work at a car dealership after running out of money.
Great point. Thanks for sharing.
I never felt any shame looking for a job.
Will working overseas be a possibility? Think of places like UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Definitely worth looking into.
I was curious as to what was happening. I understand that there are tech jobs in Boston but it's difficult to afford to live there.

I may just have to start flipping burgers, this job market is disgusting 🤮
Very true. Good luck out there.
what city is that??
Manila.

Don’t worry dude things will get better
Thank you for the encouragement!
I want to get my state ID and apply for a remote job.
Good luck! Remote jobs are the dream.

@@LaceyRyanFlower8 Yes, and I applaud me.
