    I love when the guy's ashamed that he can't fight and Diana says "But then who will sing for us?" It's really fresh to have a superhero who isn't driven by revenge or anything, she's just really kind and can't stand to see people suffer.

      Her naive innocent kindness is such a lovely fun character to watch. It’s the same sort of thing that makes captain America great; they know right from wrong and they do the right thing, and that’s all they need to know

      I love how that line was delivered because it would have been so easy to come across as pitying or patronizing. But instead you get the impression that Diana absolutely believes that being able to bring people joy from music and singing is as important as being skilled in battle. It makes sense because while the Amazons were warriors, they were also artists and writers and craftswoman who valued things that bring pleasure to people's lives as much as the ability to take life.

    The thing that makes this comedy great in this otherwise serious movie is that it's not misplaced, the funny bits and the jokes all feel like things that would actually happen and not done just to check off a box. Like the bit that she goes through the revolving door, it's so ridiculous, but at the same time if you are not used to that sort of thing it's confusing and it will be a mess for you to get through it. Just imagine a child going through one of those for the first time or some native in Africa or South America who has never been outside of their local village.

      @@carlalussini Please realize that I'm talking about people that live in the boondocks in those regions. I'm not talking about the region as a whole or countries in those regions as a whole but those people that may live way out in the jungle or desert or places like that where their might not be a big city for a very far distance.
      It's like comparing Themyscira to the types of places I'm talking about. It's not that these places are necessarily like living like cavemen, but they are so isolated and the way they live is so different compared to people in that same country that live in big cities.
      There's a little bit of that in the US and Asia too, but the difference there is not quite that stark.
      Actually take the US as an example, the sort of people I'm talking about is those people WAY up there in Alaska who have never left their village. They might have electricity and internet and regular looking homes and cars and snowmobiles, but they don't really have big cities nearby, so the people from those villages may have never seen a elevator or an escalator or a rotating door before They might be just as confused and unsure about them the first time they use these things.

    5:45 -- Diana's emission of divine energy a few moments earlier created a ripple/short-term weakness in the barrier around Themiscyra, which is why the Germans were able to follow Steve to the island vs being misdirected/redirected as the field usually does. (They don't make this clear in the movie as-presented, but is understood relative to different eras of WW in the comics plus behind the scenes notations for the script.) The power, itself, exists within Diana as a demigoddess -- the mythical metal the amazons wield/use allows her to manifest that energy (which she normally can't do as she's "only" a demigoddess vs a full deity like her father, Zeus). It manifests not just when she strikes her vambraces together but also through her shield and sword. (You'll see in future instances how, for example, bullets aren't just deflected by her vambraces as they were in this movie but are actually disintegrated (shattering into nothingness) when she's at her fully awakened power; similarly, when fully awakened, she can use her vambraces often to absorb and redirect energy used against her.)

    This film is just incredible on all levels. Even with the rocky third act, it still has enough to pull at your heart strings. Diana and Steve’s relationship is so real and the best couple I’ve ever seen in a superhero movie. Also, I agree with you that looking back most of the DC films were actually really solid. Much more creative compared to the majority of stand-alone MCU films. No shade

    Ok... in the original comics lore, Hippolyta does create Diana using clay/sand with Zeus bringing her to life. It wasn't until much later that they changed the backstory a bit making her father actually being Zeus. Also note: in earlier comics and media such as Super Friends and the Wonder Woman tv show, she did not fly at all. Instead, she used an invisible jet/plane.
    In later media, they changed it to her actually flying around. Here, it's basically kind of a mix between old and new school stuff.

    • @omegashinra7672
      @omegashinra7672 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I actually enjoy both of her origins, I kind of get why they decided to change it and modernise it a bit, away from the clay thing though.

    • @tideoftime
      @tideoftime ปีที่แล้ว +9

      More correctly, it was Aphrodite who originally brought Diana to life after Hippolyta sculpted her from clay in the original WW mythology (and in the Post Crisis reality, it was the combined efforts of six deities: Artemis, Athena, Aphrodite, Demeter, Hestia and Hermes, who brought her to life and gifted her with divine powers). It's only in the more recent New52 reality of the past decade that Zeus became Diana's direct father... which, similar to certain other events in this film as well as WW84 has a number of people noting the narrative diluting of the feminist messaging that Diana, as a character, is predicated on... but that's another discussion.
      In fact, even in the DCEU reality, Zeus didn't animate Diana from clay (that's just a story that Hippolyta told her as a child to placate her/hide her true identity), but actually impregnated Hippolyta as one of his last acts before he perished 5,000 years ago, after using much of his remaining power to enchant the island from outside forces. (Fun Fact: in the original Greek myths from the High Greek Mythic Age, circa 1,600 to 1,100 BCE, it was actually Ares who is attributed as having created the amazons as a weapon to be used against the world of men, to upset his father's world order, and not Zeus nor Aphrodite/the other goddesses being involved with them at all -- that modern version is a retelling (and appropriately so) of their myth in a more contextually credible manner.)

    One of the best examples of a superhero relationship in media has to be the depiction of Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the tv series Superman & Lois (CW) which has one of the best depictions of the characters and the entire show is rooted in how good their relationship is, you get a great understanding of both their characters, their relationship, their dynamic as both lovers and parents to two teenage boys. One of the more interesting things about both Marvel and DC comics is that they really were inspiration comics based around WWII. This Wonder Woman story is based in WWI but she was created in 1941. So most of the central popular superheroes are based around the war. There is so much history behind that fact about who created them and what they represent. The next core group of superheroes were made in the 50s and 60s but they all had connections to the writers and creators that created the comics during WWII. This is interesting seeing someone that has no idea who Wonder Woman is and no clue about how she fits into DC comics storytelling.

    I can't even express to you what this felt like, as a woman, in theaters. Its not like the best movie ever. The whole second half is kinda eh. But when she came over the top of that trench, I cried buckets. It was a strength without excessive sexiness in a hero I didn't know I needed. She basically told all the men around her "I'm tired of your shit and we're doing this my way" and then positively dominated. It was so important for me after a lifetime of superheroes that just didn't hit the right chord. It was incredible and I'll always remember how empowered it made me feel.

      100% feel the exact same way. I remember sitting in the theater, my entire body tense, because I was waiting for Diana to screw up & have to be taught "the way the world works" by the men around her. I thought she was going to try to get across no man's land and it was going to get someone killed, then she'd be taught that her naivety and desire to not compromise when it comes to helping others was a bad thing she had to overcome. I cannot describe the feeling of relief I experienced when the hero music kicked in as she was climbing the ladder and I realized the movie was going to let her have this moment. And keep her sweet way of looking at the world and her burning desire to help people (and animals) who are hurting without the narrative making it a flaw she has to "fix" by buying into cynicism and "realism"

    I think the reason that DC gets so much flack is that they have the Demigod problem. Superman and Wonder Woman are super OP wheres the characters in the MCU are much more relatable. They have fears and ticks in their personality that makes them seem like normal people thrown into abnormal situations.
    WW is my absolute favorite, and the feeling of watching this in the theatre for the first time is indescribable-especially the no man's land scene.

    - shoots arrows like Hawkeye
    - interrogates and fights like Black Widow
    - is the child of a pagan god who fights other gods like Thor
    - is a naive and idealistic hero who charges machine guns behind a shield like Captain America
    - leaps onto brick walls and smashes like Hulk
    - absorbs lightning from a god and fits it back at him like Iron Man.
    WW vs Avengers confirmed?

    This was overall a great movie, though the ending was just silly. When wonder woman killed who she thought was a god that caused men to fight, and was confused why the war didn't stop after his death. In that moment our strong but naive to the world hero learned her most shocking lesson, that humans have the capacity for violence in them and it doesn't come from an external god. A really sad and powerful scene to be honest. Aaand 30 seconds later she unlearns that lesson.

    I think this movie is great, it's a time piece film with superheroes and it actually took the time to flesh out Diana in the world of men and allowed a lot of small moments between characters that were both funny and emotional. IMO the only bad part of the movie is the very end fight with Ares because their powers are so weird and inconsistent, it was still cool and Ares' armour looked just like his comic armour which was rad.

    This is such a good movie. My mom, a friend and I saw this in theaters and we loved it so much we went a second time. We have never done this before for any movie. The second time was the best, it was a smaller audience and they had so much fun. We had a row of young men behind us and they were loving the movie and had the best laughs. I cannot think of a better time we had in the theaters. We love Steve his speech!!! And I cried so hard when he died😭😭
    Fun fact, it would appear to be better for a woman to orgasme during sex if she want to get pregant. It helps the changes be better then no orgasme.
    Here in the Netherlands we know alot about WW1 and 2, every year we remember. I have family here that fought or kept people in hiding, like my great grandfather. On my fathers side, the war in Indonesia is also very well known to me. My great grandfather was a prisioner of the Japanese. He was serverly tortured. My great grandmother and Grandmother where also there. My Grandfather fought with KNIL. They were giving a choice to go to the Netherlands or stay. But it was not save for a lot of people after the war there. It is a very long story from 2 parts off the world. I am very proud to part of a very brave and strong family❤️
