The origin that Diana talks about with her being made of Clay was based on her original origin, a story told to her in this film but the realization that she's actually the daughter of Zeus was revealed in the New 52 era. She becomes the Goddess of War after defeating Ares. The stuff, the General absorbs that makes him stronger is an early version of what will become the Venom formula that Bane uses in the comics. Ares power is that he is telling the truth. He never manipulated man to fight, he just encouraged them. You'll see a bit more of him in ZSJL, a very important moment. Yes, this film, like many of today's female led films & shows likes to bring men down to prop females up but unlike other films and shows that do that it's all due to Diana's child like naiveness. By the end she discovers the fact that both men and women have good and bad within them. Wonder Woman, since she's a demigoddess is stronger than Superman and Supergirl.
