I'm one of the few who loved Batman v Superman. But... most of the rest of the DCEU is a raging dumpster fire. I'd advise most people just to watch MoS, BvS, and Wonder Woman... and then GTFO. Nothing else worth seeing after that except possibly Shazam or the James Gunn Suicide Squad reboot if you got a few hours to kill. Started out promising but turned into such a trainwreck.
This movie is still my favorite film to come out of the DCEU so far. I’m so glad that Henry Cavill agreed to return to play the character in more movies.
The Batman and The Suicide Squad were good too. It looks like some parts of DC are starting to put "The" in front of the title and the movie turns out better
Man of Steel aged like fine wine. It’s damn good and it’s the perfect time to revisit this movie now that Henry Cavil is back as Superman! Edit: This comment didn’t age well. Let the roasting commence below 👇
Cavill is fantastic, and Michael Shannon always brings the intensity. This is a fun journey you're going on. They're not always bangers, but you're going to have a good time.
Shannon.... DUDE. That man wore a silly unitard they promised would look awesome, to FIGHT SUPERMAN, LONG AFTER he stepped into a giant space dildo that sent him to another plateau. Respect. Also, them calling it the hummingbird fight, even after we saw Super Burly Brawl, ... ...well my name's Wren for a reason, and I was pleased. I continue to tell folk "Dragon Ball is a human interpretation of hummingbird reality." Not in jail yet. *shakes her head proudly* Hee
Yes Seb, "Man Of Steel" is one of Superman's nicknames, just as "The Dark Knight" is one of Batman's nicknames. It implies Superman's physical invulnerability. I worked in a movie theater when Man Of Steel came out, and people would come up to me and ask if there was an end-credits scene. I would answer "Yeah, you see Wonder Woman's invisible jet at the end." Most would get the reference and laugh, but I remember one guy who got really confused. When I explained it to him, he admitted that he didn't get it because he was a Marvel fan. Fittingly enough though, Wonder Woman would appear in later films.
Henry Cavill actually walked around New York with glasses on, to test how well Superman's disguise works. No one recognized him. People didn't expect him to be wearing glasses, so they dismissed him.
Yes; Hans Zimmer's score is fabulous. And, I have to admit there were parts of this movie, that, between the action scenes and the music actually moved me (Clark learning to fly, 'you can save her; you can save all of them'; Clark destroying the World Engine'); much as I had fun with the MCU and that march to End Game, it never really made me emotional.
Kal walking to the one way window and Swanwick being the only one to not back off is a great bit of foreshadowing. Those storyboards revealed a lot in 2018
This was the best superman movie by a mile. Truly showed how destructive Gods could be when fighting on a planet were they have no limits to their power. The emotion and visuals in this movie was beautiful 🤍
Yes,it is.I listen to it everyday,in fact,I'm listening to it while I type this comment. Multitasking. And here it was my high-school teacher said I wouldn't amount to ANYTHING. LOL.
@@powerbadpowerbad Your high school teacher said that to you?? Damn, they're supposed to say you ARE gonna amount to something and that you have a bright future ahead of you.
In this version of Supes, the Kryptonians are more soldiers than scientists and have outposts.almost like an empire.Zor-el is also a bad-&&& in this version,he takes out a few of Zod's soldiers, then beats the brakes off of Zod !!! &&&&.
Incredibly underrated movie. I'm a Marvel fan over DC by far but this is one of my favorites. Would also love to see a seb reaction sometime to another of my underrated favorites and that is Tron: Legacy.
Oh yes Tron Legacy totally deserves a chance. Man of Steel sure is quite underrated for DCEU movies. I think it was the best DCEU movies alongside Aqua Man.
people often clown how Superman is unrecognizable with the glasses but the thing is we the audience know Clark is superman so its not much of a disguise when we compare the two but for people who dont know Clark it really is the last thing theyd think. Cavill even went around time square with the glasses on during Dawn of Justice promos on every screen and board and nobody noticed him just taking pics by every promo board
That times square moment just proves the point about being able to recognise somebody. So when we laugh about it in a movie just remember it happened in our so called reality. Also like the scene in man of steel in which people don't leave the buildings amongst the chaos of the world engine and people say that's stupid, (in which it is kind of) however again that happened in reality with 9/11.
It's soooo frustrating to me when people say this now because I remember when this movie was released people COMPLAINED about the physics and speed and camera angles. I remember watching a youtube video describing why The Man of Steel was a bad film and he was saying that the fight scenes and physics were similar to anime. In my head I was thinking, anime fight scenes are so powerful and they're so damn good at conveying strength and speed and Man of Steel also did extremely well. So I had no idea wtf that youtuber was talking about. Also I have a few really big comic book fan friends and they didnt like it either. One of them said they reallllllly didnt like the fact that Superman actually killed General Zod because Superman doesnt kill anyone. To me that logic was dumb. It's Superman being superman for the first time. He's figuring himself out just like anyone would. He doesnt know the limits of his power, and he doesnt have a strong stance on his morals just yet. On top of that Superman has killed people in the comics so idk wtf my friend is talking about lol. I'm glad this movie is getting the recognition it deserves but man was I bummed out that people didnt like it at first.
@@erickim1739 it's a cult thing when a lot of people hate on something others join in to feel ... loved or I gues get recognition. "It's too much damage" bruh there literally beings with godly power what do yiu expect them to do play rock Paper scissors. Wasn't saying "too much dammage" when iron man was cracking jokes every second while newyork was getting destroyed. "Uuuuugghh why didn't superman fly them out the city" yea he did twice first time he got jumped and destroyed. Second time he literally flew zod into space and zod PURPOSELY brought the fight back into the city cause "HE WANA MAKE THEM SUFFER CAL" AND "HE HAS NO PEOPLE" these guys are idiots like superman has never caused damage fighting big bads in comics. Lol imagine if you had the strength to lift 900 pounds and punch through iron and 3 military trained guys genetically modified for battle with the same power base walks up and you have to fight them 💀... that was literally Clark's situation he just freaking learned to fly has never thrown a punch ever. And they expect him to spank them on the hand they die instantly and he saves the day with not an inch of anything broken. Some people are idiooots
@@erickim1739exactly, people that are mad because movies aren't a 1 to 1 recreation lf comics are so frustrating. Yes, comics are awesome but let the director try to implement his spin on the characters. All the critics like "superman doesn't kill" "superman is too dark here because he destroys buildings" can very easily be explained by the simple reason that it's his first time. He doesn't know how to fight properly, he doesn't know the extent of his powers. Why did he kill zod? He didn't want to, he just saw no other way to save those people because he has no experience. Maybe if he had more he would've flown away with zod or something, but with hiw little experience he had, this was the only way he could think of
It’s so strange to see someone learn about supermans origins for the first time, I remember being a child and watching the Christopher reeves super man movies and just growing up knowing his back story, kind of like how everyone knows Bruce Wayne’s reason for becoming Batman, kind of exiting to see you react and learn about such an iconic character. Keep up the good work Seb!
@@YuukiiHON yeah well... this Kal is way too noob in fights this size. he never fought a human before, he would put him 3feet under with a slap. and now he fights a superpowered soldiers that actually cares little for destruction. after all, he said it: "i'm going to make them suffer, Kal". so Kal was so preoccupied to land a hit(as i would be) and barely noticed his surroundings. cut him some slack :))
DC 100% deserves far more recognition and less criticism than it's given. Man of Steel is still to this day one of the best stand-alone Comic Book Movies of all time. I can't wait for your reaction to BVS Ultimate Edition, and Zack Snyders' Justice League. You're in for an absolute treat!
You were right to point out the dick-shaped ships in the beginning of the movie. Zack Snyder intentionally designed a lot of Krypton's imagery to resemble the human reproductive system to sort of hone in on how Kal-El is Krypton's first natural birth in centuries. It's a very integral part of his character, because every single member of his race had their entire life predetermined at birth because of the codex. But Kal, being a natural birth, his destiny is undetermined, and completely up to his own making. And it's that moral compass that drives Superman's story through these movies. Zack Snyder has a very close knit team of people he works with on his movies. And so a lot what makes his movies what they are comes from that team of people working together on so many projects. They're not perfect movies, and the destruction and body-count in this movie is a result of that imperfection. But as you'll come to discover, subsequent movies in the series deal with the fallout of this movie's body count, as that was a big point of contention from movie-goers back when this movie came out. At the risk of sounding like an an apologetic Snyder fanboy, he seriously nails it with his trilogy of DC movies. They aren't perfect, but as a trilogy they work so incredibly well. It's amazing what happens when a single director get's to execute their own creative vision over the course of multiple movies like this. Marvel doesn't really have anything like that to compare to, so it's really hard to compare the two franchises in that sense. They're entirely different beasts to each other, both with their own respective strengths and weaknesses. Anyway, enjoy the movies. I'm very drunk right now, been a rough week at work. But as a big fan of this trilogy of films, I loved seeing your reaction to this. Can't wait for the rest. Very curious to see your approach to the two versions of Justice League. One is objectively worse than the other, but I feel like you need to watch both to fully apricate the behemoth of a film ZSJL is.
Of course you should watch the Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but there is a line that Batman/Bruce Wayne says in the theatrical cut that's very good: Alfred and Bruce argue about if Superman can be trusted since he's an "alien" and Bruce says: "Damn it Alfred, he's raised in Kansas, he's probably more human than I am."
I won't subject myself to watching the movie again just to find that line, but if that's true and Bruce actually said that it makes the "Save Martha" moment even dumber than it already is. I've yet to hear a single competent answer as to why Bruce didn't know Superman's real identity, which would include knowing his parents names. Even worse is that Lois knew as did Lex. It took Lois all of about a week to track him down to his doorstep and while we're never told how Lex found out (maybe he hacked her computer) he and his goons were well aware of his real identity and everything else about him. But somehow the so-called "world's greatest detective" who had 18 months to research what he considered to be the most dangerous entity to exist had absolutely no clue. The only thing he learned in the movie's timeline was that a strange, green rock might hurt/kill him but not where he lives, where he works, etc. I recall the scene where Batman is dragging Superman's near lifeless body and tells him that his parents probably told him he was special. Yeah Bruce, like every parent of every child ever born but the fact that Bruce didn't know who those parents were/are is mindbogglingly stupid. I've seen a few of those animated DC movies and Batman is ALWAYS 20 steps ahead of everyone else but Snyder's version is criminally stupid by comparison. If you love the movie that's your business but let's not pretend that the story and the primary plot point makes any sense.
@@incredibilistic YES, you are correct. There are more plot holes then in a swiss cheese in that movie regardless of version. "More human than I am". I checked it now - you're right - the "Kansas part" must be in my imagination (only seen it once and won't watch it again), but the line that follows is about Superman growing up etc... This version of Batman is of course NOTHING compared to Nolans Batman. Here's the line: th-cam.com/video/Cu85vSUaiHQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=FlashbackFM
@@incredibilistic I think Bruce didn't know because after Lois and Lex found out, superman made sure to cover his tracks or asked Lois how she found out and made sure to cover it up, only plausible explanation
@@extint3407 -- This is the kind of crap I can't stand about DC fans. Rather than just accept that it's a gargantuan plot hole you just make up shit to cover for the movie's morbid inconsistencies. Yet what you fail to realize is that you're creating even more plot holes by inserting a storyline that doesn't exist. You're effectively admitting that Bruce/Batman isn't the world's greatest detective and that Superman's intelligence is far superior to Batman's if he's able to "cover his tracks" so well that Batman could never find him. Like I said, if you like/love the movie that's your business but covering for the movie's inherent flaws won't make it a better movie. I'm a Marvel fan but I'm the first to admit and accept some of the plot holes and/or inconsistencies. At the end of the day these are just fantasy movies made my imperfect humans. Even if the cast or crew member is a close relative you'd be doing them no favors by suggesting that everything they do is without flaw.
@@incredibilistic Marvel and DC are full of plot holes all the time. In Marvel movies they started to make Thor as clown in Ragnarök and continued all the way etc. Then again Batman vs Superman is so stupid all the way. Superman is usually presented as very smart and wise with superfast brains among other abilities. Then they make him to act like complete braindead zombie to make it possible for batman to beat him😂 Batman is only human, no matter how much it's stretched. A person with abilities of Superman would be just impossible to take by surprise even with kryptonite. And even if stretching so much that it would happen once, there is no way that it would happen twice for as powerful being with all those abilities he has. Any even half intelligent person with such abilities would be out of the place right away when recovering and then scanning the place from distance and then acting accordingly. But since some fans like batman, they make superman an idiot🤣🤣🤣
Watching Henry Cavill's face turn into Christopher Reeve's face under the world engine for about 5 frames is still the best homage ever, give me goose bumps every time
32:06 I think they ran the same way as the building because there was a building on the other side. At the end they run a different way because there is a street there. In this case in this movie it makes sense. I think you should watch the movies in order of release. it will make the most sense. Keep up the good work! :)
Superman is also known as - The Man Of Steel (because he's so strong and invincible) - The Man Of Tomorrow (a man from a futuristic world fighting for a brighter tomorrow - Supes - The Last Son Of Krypton - Smallville (usually Lois making fun of Clark for being a country boy)
Man of steel is absolutely incredible. Superman’s sheer will and world shattering feats in this movie is still unlike anything I’ve seen. That includes marvel and dc. The moment when he destroyed the terra forming machine gives me goosebumps.
btw to answer your question at the start, kryptionians are only as strong as superman when there is a yellow sun near them, but krypton the planet orbited a red sun so none of them had any powers like clark does on earth
This is my issue with the world of Superman. (Not him, per se, just the setting.) That his people had space travel, and they knew ahead of time that yellow suns could make them basically gods, yet they chose to live (and die) on their home world?
@@Galiant2010 it’s a kryptonian thing. Basically, they see their red sun as a god and letting themselves be exposed to yellow sunlight is like tainting that, becoming “impure”.
@@Galiant2010 Jor-El actually addresses this, when you hear his voice-over, as Clark is trying out his abilities, in the suit. He says that Clark grew even stronger than Jor-El had anticipated.
I remember watching it first time and being absolutely AMAZED by the cgi of the fighting scene and general zod along with the actor that played him make him to me a villain as scary and understandable as thanos😊
40:38 Some common nicknames for Superman are The Man Of Steel, The Man Of Tomorrow, The Last Son Of Krypton, Boy Scout, Supes & The Metropolis Marvel. Clark Kent's most famous nickname is Smallville which Louis calls him.
Sadly this movie was criminally underrated when it came out. Avengers had just happened the year before, so anything that wasn't like Marvel was seen as subpar. But looking back, now that I'm burnt out on Marvel, I really appreciate how Man of Steel doesn't feel at all like a Marvel movie. It has it's own style that's pretty refreshing after seeing all of the DCEU movies come out that feel exactly like a Marvel rip-off in tone.
It's kind of refreshing, but strange to see someone being introduced to Superman lore for the first time, Smallville was really big when I was a preteen/teenager and I've previously watched a couple of the old movies so have gotten all the references through the years. I guess I always figured the Superman backstory was about the same level of pop culture knowledge as Batman.
I watch this twice in the cinema. Absolutely loved it and could not understand why critics were panning it. (Sorry from the UK). Critics and others were saying it wasn't a decent. So I'm glad to see someone appreciate because it is good movie. I am a DC fan first but I still enjoyed the first 10yrs of Marvel. I don't understand why you have to be in one camp or the other.
i mean the man worked his ass off to get into shape for this role, and it shows. also to mention he comes across as very personable and quirky in interviews, very charming and if it's a property he loves he fully invests (which is why he left the witcher series and is being replaced, they wanted to go in a different direction and Henry wanted to remain faithful to the books, and we now know how that turned out....) he's also stated he's an avid videogamer, a warhammer 40K fan and on his socials he builds his own PC. he's a top gent, he's been in a few smaller things on british TV (before he got big, like ''the Tudors'' tv series) and he's on the shortlist to be the new james bond, but since he's slated to remain as Kal-El for the present that might get shelved
Each Kryptonian Sun-cycle is roughly equivalent to 1.37 Earth years. So if Zod and his team were sentenced to 300 cycles of somatic reconditioning, this equates to 411 Earth years of genetic reengineering. (somatic reconditioning)
The scene he's jumping right before he takes off in flight It's in reference to the comics because in the beginning he could only jump he couldn't fly but then later on he picked up the flying thing, That's why early in the comics his thing was that he could leap buildings in a single bound
28:27 - This is why I like MoS because they showcase actual powers in a creative way. Faora Ul has the same powers as Superman. In this case, she's using her super speed and super strength to take out the soldiers. Too bad Justice League (2017) didn't showcase these "wow" type visuals.
This and the next two movies, Batman V Superman and justice league, have one of the most satisfying character arcs for superman. You can pinpoint the exact moment where he becomes superman and the lead up and conclusion are 100% worth it
Henry's first movie was 'The Count of Monte Crisco' with Jim Caveasel & Guy Pierce when he was still at boarding school (17) and is well worth watching, his best (most revealing & longest) 'nude' scene was in the tv series 'The Tudors' where he played Henry VIII best friend.
Good choice to do Batman vs Superman extended cut. This is not a spoiler because you aren't familiar with DC: When you watch, go into it with the mindset that Batman is a grizzled veteran at this point. There are subtle hints throughout that you won't recognize that show he's already fought his personal big bad enemies. At this point, he's willing to break rules he didn't used to.
bro, Zack Snyder's films are leagues above marvel, while the MCU drops in quality over years the Snyderverse has so much rewatch ability , its so lovable. each character really feels like an individual person, the cinematography is incredible, the visuals and references to comic book panels and classic art. its perfect.
Also when you say "I didn't know this was part of Superman's origin", this movie actually took a pretty fresh and unique direction reimagining his origins which I really liked but also made a lot of old fans mad haha.
Lois IS a genius. She works out the whole plot in the next film by herself. It;s not 1938. You can't have someone too stupid to recognise her boyfriend if he takes his glasses off.
Important Superman lore to remeber for later movies: his super powers come from soaking up our yellow sunlight, in the red sun of krypton and its higher gravity they were closer to human. It’s the Yellow sun that makes Superman basically immortal.
So glad there’s becoming more people who aren’t afraid to love this movie. When it came out many really enjoyed it but a portion also felt like it wasn’t an overtly optimistic & bright movie like a Superman movie is expected to be and the Zod kill (even though he’s done similar things in canon comics). Also with The Avengers coming out a year prior that really got people in the mood for comic book movies to have a lighter tone & not too serious with comedy and a lighting pace. Nobody was ready for Man of Steel, now most comic book movie fans look back on it very fondly, especially with people now being burnt out by the MCU’s humor & silliness and dull cinematography people are really clamoring for serious tone epic superhero movies with emotion allowed to breathe. It just sucks that there’s a stigma around the DCU being bad because of what WB did to Justice League & Suicide Squad, so now when people check out these movies & love the good ones they feel almost guilty about it because they think most people don’t like them so they don’t give them the full praise they truly feel because they don’t want people to attack their opinions. Most reactions I see for Man of Steel & ZSJL & some others people are like “wow I thought these were suppose to be bad but it’s amazing!”
Superman has a personal code to never kill by action or lack of action. Yes he could beat up his bullies as a kid but as Kent said "What then?" Keep this in mind when you get to the Aquaman movie.
Love this movie, I have watched it more than most superhero films, and some others as well. To me it's has to be in my top 5 superhero movies. The casting is awesome.
Being born in '77, I grew up with believing Christopher Reeve was the embodiment of Superman. He really was Superman. So you would think I wouldn't be able to like anyone else playing the part, but I really love Henry Cavill in the role. He did a great job and looks the part and got the American accent down. It's pretty unreal that he's a gamer nerd in real life, spending all his time playing World of Warcraft and Warhammer 40K and stuff. The girls of the world probably hate him for wasting his time playing games when they dream about dating him.
Henry was perfect for the part, and he looked jaw dropping delicious. This movie, then Wonder Woman and Aquaman saved the DCEU. I loved the new creative direction this movie did. Easter egg fun facts: several actors in this film has guest starred on the WB's SMALLVILLE
They're known as Kryptonians, Seb. Because they're from the planet Krypton There was also a comic arc called Red Son that postulated what would have happened if Kal-El had landed in Soviet Russia instead of rural Kansas. It was.... not good :P
also a comic run called reign of the supermen, which portrayed if an army of them say... lived on an orbiting floating city...it did not end in a best case scenario... if i recall
he was devastated killing zod for 2 reasons. 1. he failed his no kill rule and he has blood on his hands now which he can never scrub clean and 2. zod was his last connection to his kind
I've already watched several reactions to this movie and people often have no idea what planet Krypton is, why Kal-El had to leave, who are his Earth parents etc. And I'm always pretty amazed by it. How can someone not knowing this kind of stuff? I was born in 1987 and I've known Superman backstory since I was like three years old, because he is the most famous superhero ever. I've always thought that if I go to some small central Africa village and ask, people will know everything about Superman. So I'm really surprised just how many people have zero knowledge of him. That's knda surreal. 😄
I was born in 1978; I was certain that EVERYONE knows Superman, Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones. I have no idea why a commentator would post a video about Superman and not do any research...
I think it has a lot of issues but it definitely has its qualities. It feels like it has a tad more heart than the Marvel movies I guess. BvS is a mess for me (Ultimate cut included). Man of Steel is a tad meh but I did enjoy the Snyder Cut JL. Love Cavill as Supes but the over- reliance on him in the Snyder Cut was one of my only issues with it. Like their meant to be a team but he's SO overpowered it's unnecessary. That's one of the things I think the MCU did well, Thor isn't outrageously OP until like Infinity War. Besides that I'll defo miss Cavill and Snyder but I'm excited for a fresh start.
@@himum3429 Man of Steel made me love Superman again and this modern take is amazing, the score, the action scenes and most importantly, the story. BvS was the deconstruction of our beloved superheroes that people didnt like. I thought it was pretty great to see it. Gods having problems as humans would and the only person who stayed true was Superman himself even though he was troubled that the people he protected from Zod turned on him and pretty much what he feared, Batman coming after him like a freight train. Batman and Wonder Woman lost their hope in believing in people since the world is cruel. Batman inspired him and continued to share it also cementing the fact how they are polar opposites but best of friends like in the comics continued to Zack’s JL. I don’t think they relied on him at all. Batman wanted him back to inspire hope as he got inspired when he made that sacrifice. He brought back Batman’s humanity. Theatrical JL relied on Superman heavy, while Snyder’s JL, they still lost even though they had Superman. Flash was the one who saved them. Snyder’s JL actually had all characters shine themselves while also preparing for the return of Superman
G'day it's Steven from Down Under again I always watch your reviews to Star Wars and DC, your reactions are priceless and very honest, in fact you appear to be quite an intelligent young man. I'll share something else with you Seb, you look a lot like my youngest child, his name is George. Keep up the great work!
People need to understand how much Sups restrain himself... That unlimited godlike power but he still doesn't lose himself... That's what makes him special...!!
I know some really old school fans who cried foul over Lois /immediately/ tracking Clark down. But I was glad they decided to make a Pulitzer prize winning investigative journalist, you know, good at her job. They also would bitch about the ending, because Superman doesn't kill. For one thing, just like Batman using guns, it has happened. Second, how would you write that ending with what all led up to it? Zod would *never* stop.
Explain? I disagree. If you mean DCEU then I can see it and you can make an argument that it is the best DCEU movie but if you mean every DC movie then no, it’s not even top 5 to be honest. It’s a good film and underrated so it’s like 7.5/10 for me but TDK, The Batman, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Joker, etc, are better films.
With all due respect to Chris Evans, but Henry Cavill really is on another level. But I'm glad you're watching the movies. Despite their reputation and ratings, I honestly love the DCEU movies.
I grew up with Superman. My little brother loves spiderman and I love superman. I got him comics and things from Marvel and he gave me DC stuff. Good memories. I saw this in theaters with me little brother and dad. I had my superman tshirt on and sat on the tip of the seat. Never leaned back, because I was into it. I do however later on as I got older did not like a few things about this. Like Jonathan's death, the kill of Zod by Superman. This movie does have very good things and I love the music!
25:16 i really like Zack Snyder's symbolisms of Superman being a God, like when they talk about him saving Lois and saving the planet in this scene he kinda just floats out of the ship in a Jesus pose as he's realized his role in all this is humanities last hope and their savior
i like the shot of him at 20:40 where hes in the church and he's thinking whether he should turn himself in for the sake of peace and the backdrop is just a tinted glass of Jesus praying in the garden before he turns himself in to the guards
Man Of Steel is very underrated. No idea how or why it gets hated on. It’s one of the best Super-Hero movies. Not the best, but it holds it’s own vs Marvel flicks and Batman movies.
I agree. That was the first time I saw Henry Cavill or Charlie Cox on screen. Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Ricky Gervais, Mark Strong, Peter O'Toole, Jason Fleming, they all were effective in this fantasy based on Neill Gaiman's book.
Personally I don't care for this movie or Zack Snyder's interpretation of the DC characters and overall find his work mediocre at best but I'm not saying that you're wrong for having your own opinion.
@@The_Phantasm I understand why Zach Synder DC films are mixed. Personal i love them, BvS the 3hr edition is amazing, still has its flaws but better than the theater version and his 4hr Justice League is one of the greatest superhero movies of all time in my opinion. Warner Bros is really the real villain for not letting him have full control
@@tmac731 If he had full control and he actually did all that Nightmare future stuff with Darkseid and Superman that would be one of the dumbest things he could ever do with these characters. It would make for a good Elseworlds story but it should never be the main continuity of the DC characters.
@@The_Phantasm personally I still want to se Superman turn evil with Darkseid. That would have been amazing since people view Superman as boring. Not everything had to be comic accurate and Superman turning evil is a real injustice storyline
@@tmac731 But the thing about Injustice is that it only is great because we already have the pre-existing main DC continuity to enjoy and so Injustice makes for a cool diversion but again it should never be the main continuity. You are right that not everything has to be comic accurate but what Zack Snyder was doing was so INACCURATE that it just became nauseatingly predictable.
"That sound when he flies, that little sonic boom. I'd be dying if I saw it in the cinema" This was the first Atmos movie I saw in the theater and the experience was, quite frankly, awful. There was too much sound from everywhere, and the destruction elements were SO loud. Absurdly loud. Distractingly loud. And, sad to say, the music/sound design was one of the better parts of this movie. Lol
i think that also might've bene affected by where you sat in that theatre, the sound might've hit a corner pocket and cancelled itself out. that or the staff maybe played it a tad too loud? i saw it in what was a longer room than it was wide and where i sat i must've got lucky, because while it was loud it wasn't overbearing. i thought it was fine
The Scout ship in this movie has its own back story explored in a prequel comic book. The ship predates in Krypton timeline way before the Zod's civil war during Krypton's last days. It was part of a great mission to find new habitable settlements & outposts. And it was piloted by Kara Zor El aka Supergirl. Events of conflict happened in the ship that led to its trajectory towards Earth crash landing on Antarctica 18,000 years ago. In this snyderverse however it's not clear what happened to Kara after the crash.
well one of the sleep pods WAS open, and with a supergirl movie being talked about (i think it was Laura Marano as the lead), thy might have to go really hard to justify that Kara being alive, or use a bit of retcon to allow her to be placed in this era maybe her pod was soaking up all the power (if it was running on an emergency mode) and she snuck out as it was lifting off? (she is a capable fighter in that comic so a bit of stealth isn't entirely out of the question). either that or it's a Kara from another Earth (so it could set up a Crisis on Infinite Earths story) or a Kara of closer relation than a distant ancestor was saved by her parents, or even Kal himself if they go into his spacefaring adventures (so that can set up Mongul of Warworld, Maxima: queen of Almerac, or Lobo: the main man, and if they do Maxima, will they allude to her being attracted to kara like she was in the New52, who wasn't interested in men like the original)
@@knuckles543 ....at this point I'm not sure if anyone in that studio has any plans to showcase Kal's distant relative in its current timeline or any possible narrative to show how she was alive all these years making her older than Wonder Woman. But regarding movies i wouldn't mind seeing an older Supergirl....it's not really necessary to see the classic teenage blonde girl in minis & cape.

What did you think of Man of steel?!
Watch fast and furious films
Most of the film's middle part was good but that final fight was really unnecessarily that long !
This move was soo good. Also love watching you doesn't matter what movies you post W Reactor
Started out promising but turned into such a trainwreck.
why are you watching me i watched this movie 5 minutes ago
This movie is still my favorite film to come out of the DCEU so far. I’m so glad that Henry Cavill agreed to return to play the character in more movies.
Same here.
The Batman and The Suicide Squad were good too. It looks like some parts of DC are starting to put "The" in front of the title and the movie turns out better
I never understood why people hated this. It's still one of my fav CBM.
If future Superman is good I wont be as Butthurt about Witcher
It's probably why he dropped out of The Witcher. Conflicts.
Man of Steel aged like fine wine. It’s damn good and it’s the perfect time to revisit this movie now that Henry Cavil is back as Superman!

LOL. That comment about the jet was FUNNY !!! I actually laughed out loud. Thanks for the laugh.

Henry Cavill actually walked around New York with glasses on, to test how well Superman's disguise works. No one recognized him. People didn't expect him to be wearing glasses, so they dismissed him.

One of the things I LOVE most about this film is the superman music score. It's so intense, powerful, and emotional.
Honestly one of my favourite super hero films, the visuals, the soundtrack and Henry Cavill just make it amazing
Hans Zimmer's Superman theme is my favourite part of this film. It's outstanding!

After watching the chessetastic original, of course…. ;😊
With that logic anyone can rob a store with glasses since "most people dont know them" 🤦🏽♂️
That times square moment just proves the point about being able to recognise somebody. So when we laugh about it in a movie just remember it happened in our so called reality. Also like the scene in man of steel in which people don't leave the buildings amongst the chaos of the world engine and people say that's stupid, (in which it is kind of) however again that happened in reality with 9/11.
@@numpty94 I've read your comment over 20+ times now and I still don't know what you're talking about.
I LOVE how they did the super action in this movie, the physics and speed just feels right
It's soooo frustrating to me when people say this now because I remember when this movie was released people COMPLAINED about the physics and speed and camera angles.

Such a great movie. One of the best displays of super speed I've ever seen. Faora against the soldiers. So badass
I totally agree DC deserves less criticism

MoS had to also compete with Iron Man 3 that summer (i spoilt myself and saw both)

It's kind of refreshing, but strange to see someone being introduced to Superman lore for the first time, Smallville was really big when I was a preteen/teenager and I've previously watched a couple of the old movies so have gotten all the references through the years. I guess I always figured the Superman backstory was about the same level of pop culture knowledge as Batman.

i mean the man worked his ass off to get into shape for this role, and it shows.
also to mention he comes across as very personable and quirky in interviews, very charming and if it's a property he loves he fully invests (which is why he left the witcher series and is being replaced, they wanted to go in a different direction and Henry wanted to remain faithful to the books, and we now know how that turned out....)
he's also stated he's an avid videogamer, a warhammer 40K fan and on his socials he builds his own PC.
he's a top gent, he's been in a few smaller things on british TV (before he got big, like ''the Tudors'' tv series) and he's on the shortlist to be the new james bond, but since he's slated to remain as Kal-El for the present that might get shelved
The theme song in this is incredible. Gives me goosebumps everytime.
"You can see what I'm packing AND IT PAINS YOU."
Absolutely iconic and true.
16:45 something I only just realized, with Clark's enhanced vision, he was able to see through the tornado and had to watch his father be ripped apart
28:27 - This is why I like MoS because they showcase actual powers in a creative way. Faora Ul has the same powers as Superman. In this case, she's using her super speed and super strength to take out the soldiers. Too bad Justice League (2017) didn't showcase these "wow" type visuals.
The notification for this made me smile, the reaction well it completely turned my day and mood around...Thanks❤️
3:37 “I’ve been sleeping on this…” it’s more like Disney did everything it could to gas light social media against anyone liking this movie lol.
bro, Zack Snyder's films are leagues above marvel, while the MCU drops in quality over years the Snyderverse has so much rewatch ability , its so lovable. each character really feels like an individual person, the cinematography is incredible, the visuals and references to comic book panels and classic art. its perfect.
So funny hearing you say what I was thinking about “the plot” I’m dead 😂
The first 20 mins is legendary/ epic/ and so visionary. It shows that superman is a sci fi story. He’s an alien.
The reason his parents knew to send him to Earth is because of this scout ship, it wasn't a coincidence.
Also when you say "I didn't know this was part of Superman's origin", this movie actually took a pretty fresh and unique direction reimagining his origins which I really liked but also made a lot of old fans mad haha.
Can’t tell you how long I’ve been waiting for this Seb! Let’s get straight, into it!
This is still to this day MY favorite CBM right up there with the Raimi Spiderman trilogy. So good!
So true!!!
A lot of people hated on the snyderverse but man I really enjoyed it.
At least Zack Snyder knows how to direct fight scenes. Cause when Superman fights in this, you really feel the power
Superman has a personal code to never kill by action or lack of action. Yes he could beat up his bullies as a kid but as Kent said "What then?" Keep this in mind when you get to the Aquaman movie.
Love this movie, I have watched it more than most superhero films, and some others as well.

This movie shows what superhero movies could be 🤘🏼
What a great cast made by Zack Snyder
I like how faora was the first krytonian to show case actual super speed not jumping or frying just moving fast on the ground
Zack Snyder’s trilogy is pure cinema. I’ll put it up against any MCU trilogy
G'day it's Steven from Down Under again
I always watch your reviews to Star Wars and DC, your reactions are priceless and very honest, in fact you appear to be quite an intelligent young man.
I'll share something else with you Seb, you look a lot like my youngest child, his name is George.
Keep up the great work!
The technical aspects of this movie are astounding. To me, it's criminal not even a single Oscar nomination was granted here.
not even for the score....
@@knuckles543 Yeah. Hans Zimmer is an amazing composer who's responsible for so many epic soundtracks.
People need to understand how much Sups restrain himself... That unlimited godlike power but he still doesn't lose himself... That's what makes him special...!!
Yeah what makes him special isn't just his power its his heart that one thing sups and spidey share together

when the man goes all out, there is no equal
i'd recommend the 1978 superman
Yes please! A classic and all-time great movie.
Agreed although I don’t hate man of steel. DC overall just deserves an amazing live action universe
It’s a crime Shannon’s villian isn’t in contention for how good he is, Zod is in is fucking phenomenal
*clark when lois is falling thru the sky ➰🙆🏻♂️* *clark when his mom is boutta die 💨💨⏩*
Zod would *never* stop.
honestly,
to me this is the best DC movie to date!
it's amazing!
Explain?
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 best Superman and DCEU movie
I wasn't counting the Nolan trilogy obviously
I agree.
With all due respect to Chris Evans, but Henry Cavill really is on another level. But I'm glad you're watching the movies. Despite their reputation and ratings, I honestly love the DCEU movies.
Kryptonians don't have powers in their own planet. Its the earth's sun that give them their powers, at least i think so
You’re spot on, it’s the earths yellow sun gives them their power
I don’t. The movies cool, but I prefer classic Superman who is good because that’s who he was raised to be. I hate Clark’s parents in this film.
@@haha-lj5sq lemme guess you want superman in red underwear saving cats out of trees right like its 1944 ?
@@zachanator2011 1939 actually
i like the shot of him at 20:40 where hes in the church and he's thinking whether he should turn himself in for the sake of peace and the backdrop is just a tinted glass of Jesus praying in the garden before he turns himself in to the guards
If you do Batman V Superman definitely do the extended edition, so much better than the theatrical cut
Please watch the 1978 Superman with Christopher Reeve. It still holds up and to many of us Christopher Reeve will always be our Superman 😊
Everyone must have said this already, but I gotta say it again. Make sure that you watch the Zack Snyder cut of the Justice League movie
Man Of Steel is very underrated. No idea how or why it gets hated on. It’s one of the best Super-Hero movies. Not the best, but it holds it’s own vs Marvel flicks and Batman movies.
Seb, you *gotta* see Stardust✨☄️
This cast WILL blow your mind
@@jeffthompson9622 💯
Cool to see people discovering Man of Steel - it’s metal as f and underrated. Best comic origin movie for sure
This movie is super underrated.
That satellite Zod and Kal break during their fight? Belonged to Wayne Enterprises.
"That sound when he flies, that little sonic boom. I'd be dying if I saw it in the cinema"
This was the first Atmos movie I saw in the theater and the experience was, quite frankly, awful.
In this snyderverse however it's not clear what happened to Kara after the crash.
well one of the sleep pods WAS open, and with a supergirl movie being talked about (i think it was Laura Marano as the lead), thy might have to go really hard to justify that Kara being alive, or use a bit of retcon to allow her to be placed in this era
maybe her pod was soaking up all the power (if it was running on an emergency mode) and she snuck out as it was lifting off? (she is a capable fighter in that comic so a bit of stealth isn't entirely out of the question).
either that or it's a Kara from another Earth (so it could set up a Crisis on Infinite Earths story)
or a Kara of closer relation than a distant ancestor was saved by her parents, or even Kal himself if they go into his spacefaring adventures (so that can set up Mongul of Warworld, Maxima: queen of Almerac, or Lobo: the main man, and if they do Maxima, will they allude to her being attracted to kara like she was in the New52, who wasn't interested in men like the original)
