Video got copyright claimed and had to trim out a bit towards the end so for some reason the audio/video is a bit desynced in the last minute or so. Should fix itself but don't worry about it:)
Ok I’m watching this and commenting before the video is over so I don’t know if you know this but Gale’s name is in there 42 times because he signed up for something that gives you food but puts your name in more times
Fun fact I share a birthday with Donald Sutherland July 17th also the very first movie I ever saw Donald Sutherland in was the comedy movie Buffy the vampire Slayer he plays Buffy's teacher kind of like a mentor someone to show her the ropes pretty much here's another little tidbit his son Kiefer Sutherland plays a vampire in The Lost boys 😁
It's always fun to see people realize that the Hunger Games films are actually fantastic, instead of mediocre/childish like they assumed. It's funny to think about: The Hunger Games books/movies were so good and popular that they spawned a ton of mediocre knockoff books/movies in the "dystopian YA" genre, and so now years later lots of people automatically assume the Hungers Games will be just as mediocre as all the imitators it inspired. :)
@@MamadNobari i think the first 2 make better movies but the last one is a great story that doesn’t translate as well to a movie. A big part of the reason why is that this isn’t a series about an oppressive government and a revolution, it’s a series about a girl who was placed in that and forced to be in the center of it all. The end of the revolution and much of the fight isn’t shown on screen which made the ending seem anti-climactic but in the book it made sense because it is all told through katniss’s perspective and that’s not part of her story. So much of the third book mirrors the first in such a perfect way that may not be as noticeable on a first read but makes it so interesting and enjoyable for a fan. So yes it should’ve been one movie but it still wouldn’t live up to the excitement of the second movie I think. As a major Hunger Games fan I’m glad they didn’t sacrifice the true story for a more exciting movie even if it would’ve been more fun to watch. idk that’s just my opinion
i first read the hunger games trilogy when i was 12 lol, idc what they labeled as they are amazing (im a full grown adult now and still love the series)
I always say this, but one thing to keep in mind about Haymitch is that, as a mentor, he’s seen tributes come and go and they always die. It’s bound to take a toll on him, which explains why he wasn’t that keen on getting close to Katniss and Peeta until it seemed that they actually had a chance.
Yes this exactly! He would’ve tried to be positive for so long then got lost in his alcoholism after creating a rapport with each of the tributes to have all of them die. It’s kind of sad to think how many he’s seen before Katniss and Peta came along.
The books are so much darker. At the end Peeta is bleeding out and eventually loses the leg and the gamemakers don't say stop until they actually have the berries in their mouths and have to spit them out. Also Peeta gets his leg wound from saving Katniss when she'd been stung by the tracker jackers. He saved her from cato. Definitely read the books. The movies are some of the best adaptations I've seen but books are always better
@@breeeeeeee_ I agree and tbh I probably wouldn't enjoy them as much if they'd done everything. I think it would have been too much for a movie. A lot of stuff that works in books just wouldn't happen in films x
In the book, the dogs that attacked them at the end were actually partially reanimated corpses of all of their dead friends hybrids with the dogs. They had the faces of all dead kids.
It wasn't the faces it was just the eyes. But I didn't know that they were partially reanimated. I thought they were just big dog mutants with their eyes.
I thought the books said something along the lines of "They used the likeness of each of the fallen tributes in creating the hell hounds, who even had their eyes!" I'm so sure it's more than just the eyes- colouration of hounds coats same as the fallen's hair etc. Anyway, have a good 1 y'all😊 💚🇦🇺
@@antoniofernandez7641 yea, one of the mutants looked her in the eyes and she recognized the eyes as rues so she theorized the gamemakers took the dead tributes dna then made them into mutts which she found disgusting bc why not just let them rest instead of continuing to use them in their sick game
@@gabe6495 nope... that's the theme of the whole series, Katnis doesn't see herself as a hero and even at the end she sacrifices her hero status to do the right thing
“I guess it really is hitting her cause that could’ve been prim”. Right on Seb. The books are told through katniss’s pov and we get to hear her thoughts and when rue dies that’s what she’s thinking.
Remember all the racists saying that movie Rue was miscast as a black girl because in the books Rue "reminded her of Prim" and Prim was white? It is so wonderful to see Seb totally get it and literally say it as the obvious understanding of what the relationship was.
Yes exactly, they are around the same age so it's obvious that Rue reminded so much about Prim to Katniss :( it was one of the saddest scenes in the whole trilogy of the books/4 movies. Rue one of the best characters of the 1st so far!
@@carlalussini "And most hauntingly, a twelve-year-old girl from District 11. She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that, she's very like Prim in size and demeanor." ―Katniss Everdeen, while watching Rue's reaping. Yeah, this took like a two-second Google search. People are ridiculous.
I love that this is the subversion of the "Chosen one," trope. Katniss wasn't the chosen one, but people chose her as their symbol not because of her birth, or destiny but because of her actions. She didn't even want to be their chosen one, she didn't want to start a rebellion, she just wanted to save her sister and be kind to Rue...
Rue's death gets me everytime... the hand signal: the 3 fingers together mean *unity* and the thumb over the little finger means that *the strong protect the weak*
I know this was a year ago but I also wanted to add that its a symbol that it's a symbol of honor/farewell in district 12. In the books Katniss mentions that it's rarely used anymore outside of funerals which is why it's such a shock when everyone salutes them during the reaping and also why she gives the salute for Rue.
The districts aren't supposed to train their tributes, but Districts 1 and 2 are wealthier districts and send potential tributes to special academies. (The Capital turns a blind eye to this because Districts 1 and 2 are where they get most of their Peacekeepers). During the reaping, these specially trained children volunteer in place of the randomly selected tribute. That is why they are known as "careers". It's also why the kids from District 1 and 2 tend to be bigger, stronger, more skilled, and win most often. On the other hand, it's really unusual for kids in the outlying districts to volunteer, which is why Katniss makes such a stir, as she was the first volunteer ever from District 12.
Yes, for winning, you have to have knowledges of nature or being smart, or by luck. Like Johanna who pretended to be weak before showing her true colors or Annie who won because she's an excellent swimmer
With regards to how many times each name appears in the reaping, at 12, your name is usually in there once. Every year, 1 more is added (2 at 13, 3 at 14, etc) all up to 7 times at 18. But there’s also another system, especially targeting the poor. You can exchange having your name in more time for extra food (from what I remember, 1 additional name in exchange for 1 years worth of grain for 1 person in your household). That’s why Gale’s name is in there so many times (because he has a lot of younger siblings). It’s pretty much illustrating the way the poorer people in society is at a disadvantage. That’s also why it’s so shocking that Prim’s name is called, because she’s only 12, and Katniss has not allowed her to exchange her name for food (Katniss does so herself rather than letting her sister do it), so her name is only in there once.
yea its a system that the mayors and relatively wealthy people in the districts (obvi not as rich as the people of the capitol, but there were some) pushed to have so that it was less likely that their kids would be chosen because the poor kids would have their names in a ton.
This is another way to divide the districts from within. Relatively wealthy against the starving. You're naturally going to resent those who don't have to sign up more times.
At the beginning of the Games ceremony, when all the tributes ride in, they aren't just wearing pretty clothes in general. Their outfits have to represent their district. Each district, based on where it's located, produces their own material. So district one is luxury, district 4 is lumber, district 11 is agriculture, and district 12 is coal. District 12 is almost looked down on by the other districts. The fact that Katniss and Peeta rode in with their outfits literally on fire was a big deal. They weren't there to just fade into the background, district 12 was going to mean something for once.
“Trying to think of a talk show host like that, but there’s none.” Fun fact: Tucci apparently based his character, at least in part, on Graham Norton (which he told Graham when he was on the show).
also to explain the start (2:30) Gale put his name in more than once to get more food for his family, which is something you can do in these poorer districts. Gale has a large family and he put his name in more, most likely because he would be the strongest out of them all, and that would mean not only can he provide food for his family, but it means they are less likely to get picked.
In the book, the dogs were created using the fallen´s tributes DNA. Each dog have actually features (size, hair and eye color...) that Katniss noticed as Tribute´s features, she actually recognized Rue, Glimmer, Thresh and a few more dogs.
Yeah! That's what disturbed me when I was reading the books. I actually thought that it was them trying to get their revenge, but turns out they just used their DNA
I swear Effie was like the best character throughout the movies, the way that she developed from being part of the capitol and then practically saving Katniss was incredible. You go Miss Trinket!
1. Only later you realize Haymitch is no useless as all. He's traumatized is why he's constantly drunk, but also, him playing the indifferent at the beginning is also to test and to see if they have any actual fight in them. It is where, I believe, he recognized Katniss' potential. 2. Peeta's insistance of having no chance of winning also served double purpose. First because he didn't actually believe he did have a chance, and second, he wanted to make sure Katniss worries about herself alone and if she actually thinks he stands a chance, it would possible 'take her of her game', in his view.
I love that you picked up on certain things like how Peeta’s actually out to save Katniss during the games and how Katniss took to Rue bc she reminded her of her sister Prim. You should definitely read the books!! This is a case where both the books and the movies are fantastic.
Great reaction and some great observations. The reason Katniss missed the first shot during her "exam" was due to the fact that she had only ever been using her own, homemade bows. This new bow was very different in the way it handled and fired the arrows. In the book it took Katniss several attempts to completely master it, but by that time, the game makers had lost all interest in her performance, leading her to shooting the arrow at the apple in frustration. They should really have explained this in the movie. Even a quick line, like "I have only used my own bows" would have done the trick.
I love that the argument is it should be 16-18 and not it shouldn’t be happening 😂 I love your videos. ALSO, I feel like you’re the perfect person to tell that I accidentally walked through a Chris Evans movie set yesterday while I was out and about. No reason to be jealous, I didn’t see him. They were just setting up, but I still felt like sharing.
You have NO IDEA what you’ve just got your self into. I can’t wait to hear what you think after the last movie. This is a series that gradually just remains amazing and doesn’t lose it’s true meaning.
About the flames on the dress: In the books they specified that it doesn't actually burn, but the stones that have been sown into the dress will sparkle when she twirls and make it look like it's on fire. And Rue thinking of the singing thing so that the birds would repeat it is because she grew up in District 11 which is the agriculture district. Rue helped on the orchards from an early age which made her adapt in climbing trees and jumping between them, even on very thin branches. Because she was able to climb so well, she was able to see the flag which signified it was quitting time more easily and used that 4-note tune to notify everyone else in the orchard of it as well which was then repeated throughout it by the Mockingbirds. Then some other details you did not question, but explain a few things: Generally, the higher the number of the district, the poorer it is. 12 is the poorest, 1 is the whealthiest apart from the Capitol. That is why in especially the first 2 ditricts, becoming a Tribute is not a death sentence... it is an honor. Children actually train to become a tribute and to potentially win the games. Every year at the reaping it's about who can volunteer first and go to the Hunger Games in these districts. 12 always has the worst chances because they have no training at all. They are the mining district and are only sent into the mines from 18 on so they don't have any experience at all from it that could help. The "animal hybrids" also have something special about them in the books. The playmakers gave them the exact same eyes as the fallen tributes. One dog for every tribute that has fallen.
Peeta wasn’t lying. He really has had a huge crush on Katniss since like kindergarten. Peeta told Haymitch and he told Peeta to use that to his advantage. Play it up for the cameras. But that was so easy for Peeta to do cuz he didn’t have to play it up. And then to calm Katniss down after the interview he said he was just pretending. But as the movie goes on you can tell that Peeta isn’t pretending at all. Thats why he says “I dont want to forget”. Katniss is pretending at first. But she slowly is developing feelings for Peeta too. A lot more slowly than peeta lmao. By the end she does have feelings for him but she’s in denial since she also has feelings for gale.
@@lorettabes4553 Yeah i read the books and i agree with you. I wish they hadn't made the love triangle so big in the movies. In the books it definitely felt more like Katniss and Peeta's love story and gale was just there, off to the side trying to get Katniss to like him.
@@lorettabes4553Yeah, I think Katniss realizes that Gale has feelings for her and she entertains the idea out of loyalty for him and because she doesn’t want to lose his friendship
10:54 it explains in the books kind of that she misses in the training grounds because back at home her own bow was made by herself with things she'd either managed to find/trade to buy in her district. So it was no where near as modern/well made, and also her own bow she'd had for years, and used almost every single day if not every day. So she wasn't used to the tension of the string with the bow made by the capital, which threw off her shot. Which is why she was able to aim perfectly the second time after realising the string was a lot tighter, and she would've had to pull back a lot more to create force with it. Hard to pick up in the movies. 14:55 in the books it also explains that the people who dress the tributes (I've forgotten the term for them) have their outfits that the tributes wear into the arena overlooked by game makers and such. The tributes are allowed to bring into the games 1 token from their district as a symbol of home but they are scruitinzed carefully. One of the other tributes from the career pack (districts 1 and 2) brought a ring that, when the gem was turned, revealed a small dart tipped with poison. Nightlock poison. From the same berries they use at the end. So it was a struggle for katniss to be allowed a pin into the games as it was argued back and forth that she could possibly use it as a weapon to stab, obviously not major wounds to the abdomen and such, but to stab someone in the eyes with it to blind them for example. So that's why cinna shushes her when he revealed it. I can't remember if he snuck it in for her, or if it was just a conflict on whether or not it was dangerous for her to keep. 🤷♀️ The movies do amazingly, but there are a lot of really insane, small details that they have to omit due to the time limit. Shame 🤙😂
The 3 fingers is a tribute to sacrifice and hope basically. It’s their sign of defiance and care. But it’s mainly from district 12, and the rest adopted it as a sign of rebellion because of her.
I love that in one of the later movies, they commit the craziest warcrime I've seen in a "YA" movie. The deliberately drop bombs that are designed to delay explosions JUST to kill any medics that run in to help anyone wounded in the crowd they bombed in the first place
I’m pretty sure you get this a lot but you are like one of the best reactors I’ve ever watched you’re so entertaining your reactions are very genuine and you really get invested in these films or series you’re probably the best one I’ve ever watched, love ya Seb!
Hey, Seb!! You asked so I quickly skimmed and scrolled but didn't see an answer! The 3 fingered salute was an old hand sign they barely used Katniss mentioned in the books: "It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love." Idk why the movie didn't dive in on this when it's symbolic for the series 😅
I feel there are enough context clues for an audience to get the gist; it's a respectful salute, given in times of grief and farewell. It can be hard to find a natural justification for that kind of exposition; when it's something that everyone in-world already knows.
Rue really hits you in the book. Omg it's a devastating part of the story and what kicks off the revolution. Katniss becomes the icon because she showed love to the world, not fear.
I love the Hunger Games so much and recently saw a reaction channel reacting to it, before that it never crossed my mind to search reactions on youtube but I freaking love it. Love seeing people watch it for the first time, it was a big movie series for me growing up.
Peeta didn't do that with the berries intentionally. He really didn't know they shouldn't eat them and he never realised fox face was following him, it happened by accident.
This film was definitely not what I expected! What do you think of Hunger Games? Catching fire is on my Patreon right now for early access and that is an absolute insane movie.. www.patreon.com/SebScreen
As you watch these movies, keep in mind that Katniss came out of the Games with major PTSD, and her mental state keeps getting worse. It's not portrayed as well in the movies since we don't hear her internal dialogue.
I definitely recommend reading the books if you really like the movie(s)...the books have so much more detail and explain so much more which makes it even more enjoyable
i love both the books and the movies and honestly i think this is one of the only series where i would say the movies did the books justice? except for obviously appearances of some characters but hey i'm not complaining, they all did great
The only critique I feel is fair to make about movie 1 is they should’ve kept in the injuries Peeta & Katniss had in the books (the hearing loss & damaged leg for example)
YES this was one thing i was looking forward to / dreading seeing when i first went to watch the movie! it was a horrid detail i wish they kept in because it felt VERY telling of how the children were just .. Nothing to the Gamemakers/ the Capital/ Snow, you know?
The thing people don’t think about for haymitch, is he is the only living victor of district 12. And for the last 24 years he’s watch 46 kids from his district die. I feel like that plus what he went through in the arena himself it makes sense he would be the way he is
Haymitch has always been my favourite, yeah he comes across as distant and uncaring at the start but it’s the whole thing that he’s been a mentor for years and the only person until Katniss and Peta to win from 12. So he’s had to mentor and help 2 kids every year just to see them die
The reason Haymitch is so cynical and unpleasant is that ever since he's won the 50th Hunger Games, he's seen 26 teenagers from his district die while being unable to do anything about it. He has been forced to mentor them because normally, a female mentor from each district mentors female tributes and the same with males, but here Haymitch is the only living victor from 12, so he has to mentor both tributes and can never catch a break during the several weeks each game lasts, because he is the only one who can get sponsors. Katniss missed the first time in front of the judges because the bow was more tense than the one she was used to. Later Games usually last like fifteen days, but the first lasted few days if not mere hours (they took place in a decrepit arena before the Games moved to entire new places across the country/planet from the 11th Games on).
This is the 74th reaping. Haymitch won the 50th. He is also only the second winner from District 12. But he's had to mentor 24 years of kids that he watched die It's no wonder he's an alcoholic. You asked "who is that guy?" He's Alexander Ludwig, who plays Bjorn in The Vikings.
@@portiamay2609 i think so, but katniss mainly pointed out the eyes & how she was disgusted that the gamemakers didn’t let the other tributes rest but continued to use them in their sick game
The books are really good and show so much more insight, also about the characters and districts. I remember readin the 3rd book in a day, because I was so invested in it.
the reason why it is called Hunger Games is because you can trade better portions of rations for putting your name in an extra time. The more times you collect extra rations the more times your name is in the bowl. You want your family to actual eat for a change? put your name in and come home with actual food to eat for a change, try not to think about what it might cost down the road.
When these movies came out they never really caught my interest. But when I was in high school I had to read the first book for an English class and I got hooked! Books about dystopian societies (Fahrenheit 451, 1984, etc.) are fascinating reads for me so once I found out that’s what these books were, I read through all of them as quick as I could. I’ve forgotten most of what happens but I remember enjoying both the books and movies
Part 1 and part 2 mockingjay weren’t as universally loved by everyone, the 1st because the pace is much slower, and part 2 because of character deaths that seemed unwarranted, but they’re both AMAZING content for reactors for several reasons. Hyped for y to react to all 4 movies
The three fingers to the lips then held to the sky is an old tradition from district 12. It was used at funerals to say goodbye to someone you loved. Which makes it a deep symbol of respect that started in one district, and spread to others via katniss
People say the Mockingjay pin didn't work, but actually, it did. It made it so Katniss volunteered for Prim so she was saved. It made Rue trust Katniss (in the book) and all that spiraled from Rue's death (the fact that 'both could win if from the same district', Thresh letting her live) and it brought Katniss back home. So ... how did it not work, I wonder? ;)
21:50 I recently re-read the books, so now I finally know who this kid is. He's from the district that makes explosives, and he's the one who dug up the mines and reactivated them. Cato kills him because he thinks he has done the job 'too well' aka all their stuff has been blown to bits. Most games where other districts win are games where the Careers get their resources taken away. They aren't used to hunger.
Yes, the districts 1 and 2 are the richest. Finally, for winning the games, you have to be smart or having something you know in the arena who can help you
I don't know if you want book details... but here's some. In the books to make sure people wouldn't think Katniss had something with Gal, they told the Capitol that Gal was Katniss' cousin (not true) And in the books Katniss and Peta actually eat the berries before their victory is announced and they barely spit them out time. Finally Peta actually loses his leg in the books. It's like the biggest thing they skip out. But to answer a question you actually asked. The three finger in the air thing isn't really explained much in the books, but it is an old District 12 tradition that basically shows great respect and honor
I would say you're in for a treat, but this whole series weighs so heavy. Especially considering what is happening in the world now. But I like that it doesn't shy away from how horrible war is-and the physical and emotional trauma that comes with it.
This set of movies makes me think about that phrase quoted on Arrival; "In war there are no winners, only widows". The only way to not loose is to not fight The Other, and the only way to do that is to not see an Other, but to realize we're all One, the same ("there is no spoon"). Which imo, is what Asimov meant with his 3 Laws always failing, the only way humanity won't "loose" to the future IA/robots is if we include them as a part of Us, if we don't think we have a reason to fight them at all.
In the books it's mentioned that the Hunger Games last until there's a victor. They don't stop, so there's years where people die fast (the book mentions one taking place in an arena with a lot of traps and another in a frozen wasteland) which is considered a disappointment, and there are years when it takes weeks and weeks. But as you saw, they manipulate the arena to force the tributes together. In the book they dry up the water, so all the tributes HAVE to go to the one remaining water source. That way they'll have to fight. Katniss missed the first arrow because she wasn't used to the bow. Her own bow is wood, this one is metal. She had to adjust to the tension of the string etc. Katniss herself isn't quite sure if she likes Peeta or not, because she may have fallen for him, maybe, though in the books she is pretty reluctant to have kids, she would have to let them be in the reapings, but they're in the games so she doesn't really have a chance to really think about who she likes, because she is forced to play the part. When Ceasar Flickerman shouts during their final interviwe at around 29.51 you can just see Katniss plaster on her smile for the audience.
For those who don’t know from the books: every tribute is allowed one item. She chose the pin. The land mines were also originally in the stands they came up in before the cornucopia, designed so nobody could try to run before the time went out.
Thank you!!!! You're one of my ultimate favorite reactors and now you're starting one of my ultimate favorite stories 💖💖💖 I started reading the books a little over 10 years ago, and it's the kind of story that stays with you long after you've closed the book. 💖
Your name goes in once your first year and then an additional one each year. Then if your poor you can buy extra rations for each person in your family in exchange for you name going in extra time. It basically sets up the poor to be more likely to be selected
I'm so excited you started this series. It's in my top two YA franchises next to HP. BTW it was filmed in my state: they still have the row of houses where Katniss lived and you can walk through them.
Another fantastic reaction Seb! 👏 The Hunger Games Trilogy is one of my favourite bookseries ever and I highly recommend it. Especially the Prequel book which only came out in Sping 2020 "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is amazing, following 18 year-old Snow and the 10th Hunger Games, especially as they are starting to develop ideas, scripts and casting for a movie adaptation. Highly recommended, it really gives us another view and we see is decent to evil, fantastic book!
I fully recommend reading this series! The movies are a great adaptation, but the books are darker. You get so much more insight into the extreme classism & wealth inequity, the psyche of the people, & Katniss' constant internal turmoil. Can't wait for the next reaction!
Found your channel a few days ago and I really am surprised how invested I am in seeing your reactions to my all-time-favourite stories. What I loved most about the adaptation of the first book is the first sequence in the arena. I loved that they chose to mute the voices and let sound create the awareness of the hyperfocus in survival-mode. You sink into the panic, heartracing, overwhelming pictures and you just wanna cheer her on and run with her. I was actually very impressed that they chose to get the feeling more than the usual things like action or disturbing sounds of fighting and dying people. But to this day, in my opinion the second film was the best adaptation out of all of the series. It was spot on so many small details and on different levels of storytelling, costumes, character development, atmosphere and so on that I was able to enjoy most of the changes they needed to do which is very rare.
Of all the reactors to THG I've watched, I've never seen any of them noticing that the scream of terror at 0:59 is the answer for the "personal signature" question, so it was nice to have someone finally understanding that it was perfectly timed and not random at all.
I love how they lower the sound from the movie and blast those high pitched tones at really stressful moments to mimic that heart pounding adrenaline that causes deafening ringing in your ears in fight or flight moments…it’s a nice touch, makes you feel like you’re there in a way.
yesss I love the Hunger Games!! its the one series where I love the books and the films equally lol. This movie is also the reason that I started archery back when I was in elementary school. and now I'm in my second year of college lol
These films are always such traumatising experiences to watch. Also what you shouldn't forget, the hunger games are a reality TV show, a brutal and fucked up one, but a reality show nontheless. So there will always be a lot of hype around it in the capitol, the tributes trying to get people into likeing them, helping them, to turn the odds in their favours in order to survive.
About the number of times your name is in: In the book it explains that the base level is one for every year that you've been a potential candidate (so 1 for the 12-year old's, 7 for the 18-year old's). People can choose to have their name added more times in exchange for receiving extra food from the Capital.
you were the person ive wanted to see react to hunger games the most, and im so happy to see this in my recommended. i just rewatched the series yesterday so this was a coincidence. i love the books and they are a big part of my childhood and all of my family and friends love it too. one of the best series ive ever watched, right next to harry potter.
YES!!! I've been so excited for this reaction. 😊 This is one of the best from book to movie film series. With a great cast! I'm already going to recommend to you another great from book to movie film series, "The Maze Runner" trilogy. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Im so happy you reviewed this series. In my opinion this is the best book to movie adaptation. Its pretty close to the books and the actors protrayed the characters so damn well! Especially the actors that played Cenna and Haymitch
I've had this vid. on my watch later list for a while, just discovered your channel because I've been in a mood to watch reaction/reviews recently. The Hunger Games and the Maze Runner novels/films are the best of the lot for dystopian fiction. Think also the Japanese film Battle Royale. The girl who attacks "Katniss" near the end is Isabelle Fuhrman, who stars as "Esther" in the Orphan films.
Can't wait for your reaction to the next film from this franchise. The books are definitely worth reading! Also when you finish watching the other three movies, the parody versions are hysterical to watch.
Video got copyright claimed and had to trim out a bit towards the end so for some reason the audio/video is a bit desynced in the last minute or so. Should fix itself but don't worry about it:)

That's why I didn't like Squid Game. It was a total ripoff.
i can't wait for the ballad snakes film
i first read the hunger games trilogy when i was 12 lol, idc what they labeled as they are amazing (im a full grown adult now and still love the series)
As if Hunger Games was the first of that genre 😂
I always say this, but one thing to keep in mind about Haymitch is that, as a mentor, he’s seen tributes come and go and they always die. It’s bound to take a toll on him, which explains why he wasn’t that keen on getting close to Katniss and Peeta until it seemed that they actually had a chance.
Exactly. It's quite tragic if you really think about it.
@@Vittanni if the movie was rated R , i do think a lot of things that happened in the book would’ve been depicted
They were not necessarily partially reanimated, Katniss only had the theory that they were mutant dogs created using the fallen's tributes DNA
@@Der0310 aaaahhhh
I thought the books said something along the lines of "They used the likeness of each of the fallen tributes in creating the hell hounds, who even had their eyes!" I'm so sure it's more than just the eyes- colouration of hounds coats same as the fallen's hair etc. Anyway, have a good 1 y'all😊 💚🇦🇺

The Hunger Games writer asked a question "what if the chosen one wasn't chosen?" and delivered a masterpiece.

doesn’t that get answered in like 2 seconds when katniss volunteers?
Or: what if you make an introvert the face of a revolution?
She has dark brown skin and eyes, but other than that, she's very like Prim in size and demeanor."
―Katniss Everdeen, while watching Rue's reaping.
That's why the ending hit me so hard... :'(
@@rrraven369 yes because she did it for saving her sister who finally dies at the end
She wasn’t destined to become the chosen one but I think she became one along the way. But that’s just tropes in stories.
Yes, she is a great example of the reluctant hero.
Rue's death gets me everytime...
the hand signal:
the 3 fingers together mean *unity* and the thumb over the little finger means that *the strong protect the weak*
Wow, I never saw the things like that. I like when all the district 11 does the sign
This is very well explained, thorough but succinct too, couldn't have said it better.
Edit: also District 4 is considered career
Also those extra grain-names carry over every year but the grain does not so they need to add their names even more to get more food.
yea its a system that the mayors and relatively wealthy people in the districts (obvi not as rich as the people of the capitol, but there were some) pushed to have so that it was less likely that their kids would be chosen because the poor kids would have their names in a ton.
Right, exactly!
If I recall correctly, it's one entry for one month of oil and grain. That's why Gail is there 42 times.
They weren't there to just fade into the background, district 12 was going to mean something for once.
district 7 is actually lumber and district 4 is fishing
@@sarahestelle684 I was gonna say that hahaha

The books are much more vicious. Definitely recommend them. They’re easy reads, but the detail… the movies could never
Exactly, 100% agree.
Finnick. That’s all that comes to mind for me when I think of the detail in the books…
The movies did get as close as they could.
The dog muts in the book… horrifying stuff.
@@RedHeadNdProud Finnick had a good journey in the films, it was Johanna that got done dirty. She was one of the best parts of Mockingjay.
also to explain the start (2:30) Gale put his name in more than once to get more food for his family, which is something you can do in these poorer districts. Gale has a large family and he put his name in more, most likely because he would be the strongest out of them all, and that would mean not only can he provide food for his family, but it means they are less likely to get picked.
Don't forget the fact that, when his father died, his mother was pregnant
In the book, the dogs were created using the fallen´s tributes DNA. Each dog have actually features (size, hair and eye color...) that Katniss noticed as Tribute´s features, she actually recognized Rue, Glimmer, Thresh and a few more dogs.
Woooah!!
@@SebScreen Yeah and Katniss actually asked herself if they have memories about how they died and if they are trying to avenge his own death
True, love her, she was just molded by the capitol
They gave Katniss a high score not because they were impressed by her skill but because they wanted to make her the #1 target.
Don't forget the fact, Haymitch lost all his love ones after his own victory
I think what is missing in the movies was some comments of Katniss like with Bella in Twilight
Harry Potter Fans: I wanna go to Hogwarts!
Percy Jackson Fans: I wanna go to Camp Half Blood!

He definitely is the perfect person to tell lol
Then some other details you did not question, but explain a few things:
Generally, the higher the number of the district, the poorer it is.
In the books she doesn't have feelings for Gale. Still don't like how they did the love triangle thing, but it was popular at the time, I guess.
Stanley Tucci has said his inspiration for Cesar was Graham Norton.
The movies do amazingly, but there are a lot of really insane, small details that they have to omit due to the time limit.
You’re literally one of my favorite reaction channel so I am so happy to see you react to Hunger games, those are such good films!!
I was never crazy about The Hunger Games, but I clicked this video in a heartbeat.
The gamemakers actually gave the 11 to Katniss because they hated what she did and wanted to make her a target by giving her such a high score.
I’m pretty sure you get this a lot but you are like one of the best reactors I’ve ever watched you’re so entertaining your reactions are very genuine and you really get invested in these films or series you’re probably the best one I’ve ever watched, love ya Seb!
Ya, I know right. His commitment and dedication is unmatched!
Hey, Seb!! You asked so I quickly skimmed and scrolled but didn't see an answer!
The 3 fingered salute was an old hand sign they barely used Katniss mentioned in the books:
"It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love."
Idk why the movie didn't dive in on this when it's symbolic for the series 😅
I feel there are enough context clues for an audience to get the gist; it's a respectful salute, given in times of grief and farewell. It can be hard to find a natural justification for that kind of exposition; when it's something that everyone in-world already knows.
Rue really hits you in the book. Omg it's a devastating part of the story and what kicks off the revolution. Katniss becomes the icon because she showed love to the world, not fear.
I've incorporated the phrase "smoochy-smooch" into my vocab and it never fails to make me laugh ;) Thanks Seb for your reactions. Peace!

The only critique I feel is fair to make about movie 1 is they should’ve kept in the injuries Peeta & Katniss had in the books (the hearing loss & damaged leg for example)
@@portiamay2609 i keep forgetting about peetas leg, yes they definitely should've kept that!!
Later Games usually last like fifteen days, but the first lasted few days if not mere hours (they took place in a decrepit arena before the Games moved to entire new places across the country/planet from the 11th Games on).
the timeline for this franchise is 300 yrs in the future (2300’s)
This is the 74th reaping. Haymitch won the 50th. He is also only the second winner from District 12. But he's had to mentor 24 years of kids that he watched die It's no wonder he's an alcoholic.
You asked "who is that guy?" He's Alexander Ludwig, who plays Bjorn in The Vikings.
Fun fact:
In the books, the mutts (dogs at the end) had the tributes’s eyes. The most noticeable was the one (from Katniss’s POV) with Rue’s eyes.
Didn’t they also have the fallen tributes hair color & collars with their names on them? Or am I making that up? I haven’t read the books in a while

the reason why it is called Hunger Games is because you can trade better portions of rations for putting your name in an extra time. The more times you collect extra rations the more times your name is in the bowl. You want your family to actual eat for a change? put your name in and come home with actual food to eat for a change, try not to think about what it might cost down the road.
THG is anything but childish. Extremely gritty, intense, and sorrowful from the very start. I'm glad you enjoyed!
The commentary on media and reality tv is the most interesting part of the series for me.
So ... how did it not work, I wonder?
;)

this is one of my favorite movies and you're in it for a treat!
“They’re like airdrops or something” Yes, that is exactly what they’re like
You're not wrong about the "long time ago" for Haymitch's win, btw. He won the 50th Hunger Games, so 24 years between then and when this movie starts.
You're one of my ultimate favorite reactors and now you're starting one of my ultimate favorite stories 💖💖💖
I started reading the books a little over 10 years ago, and it's the kind of story that stays with you long after you've closed the book. 💖
Exactly, in love with them. One of my favourite trilogies
Love you Seb!!! Can't wait for the second one!!
Your name goes in once your first year and then an additional one each year. Then if your poor you can buy extra rations for each person in your family in exchange for you name going in extra time. It basically sets up the poor to be more likely to be selected
Catching Fire is a masterpiece. Watch ASAP.
I'm so excited you started this series. It's in my top two YA franchises next to HP. BTW it was filmed in my state: they still have the row of houses where Katniss lived and you can walk through them.
Omg that's so cool, could ask where exactly is that? I would looove to visit
@@saracanariov1431 It's in the western part of N.C. I'll have to check on the name of the town
ETA it's the Henry River Mill Village near Asheville

Another fantastic reaction Seb! 👏 The Hunger Games Trilogy is one of my favourite bookseries ever and I highly recommend it. Especially the Prequel book which only came out in Sping 2020 "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is amazing, following 18 year-old Snow and the 10th Hunger Games, especially as they are starting to develop ideas, scripts and casting for a movie adaptation. Highly recommended, it really gives us another view and we see is decent to evil, fantastic book!
😱 I didn't know about the prequel! Thank youuu
@@cooki3monstrrr you're welcome. And yes it's really good, I recommend it.
Thank you so much for the reaction!! Love your videos!
yayyy my day just got a whole lot better! cant wait to see what you think about the series and all the characters
Seb, I love you, this is soooo what I needed😭
I fully recommend reading this series! The movies are a great adaptation, but the books are darker. You get so much more insight into the extreme classism & wealth inequity, the psyche of the people, & Katniss' constant internal turmoil. Can't wait for the next reaction!
OMG! I'm so stoked that you're reacting to this. I've been enjoying your AOT reactions.
Love me some AOT :)
This is my favourite series of all time and watching your reactions brought me back to watching it for the first time in cinema in 2012, so thanks
Seb if dresses like Effie Trinket. Best channel on TH-cam hand down
Yessss, the hunger games series is one of my all time faves
I love how they lower the sound from the movie and blast those high pitched tones at really stressful moments to mimic that heart pounding adrenaline that causes deafening ringing in your ears in fight or flight moments…it’s a nice touch, makes you feel like you’re there in a way.
Yaayy, I was waiting for this! This is just the beggining, bro. Can't wait to see how your mind gets blown on each one
You probably recognize Josh Hutcherson "Peeta" from Bridge to Terabithia.
yesss I love the Hunger Games!! its the one series where I love the books and the films equally lol. This movie is also the reason that I started archery back when I was in elementary school. and now I'm in my second year of college lol
I have nothing to say other than “IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING AND I’M HERE FOR IT!!!”
I'm so hyped, I LOVE the Hunger Games stories❤️
I love your reactions Sebscreen and because your are watching Hunger games, I am also going to watch it for the first time ❤️
About the number of times your name is in: In the book it explains that the base level is one for every year that you've been a potential candidate (so 1 for the 12-year old's, 7 for the 18-year old's).
Catching fire is on a different level, you'll love it
YES!!! I've been so excited for this reaction. 😊
This is one of the best from book to movie film series. With a great cast!
I'm already going to recommend to you another great from book to movie film series, "The Maze Runner" trilogy.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Ahhhhh OMG. Seb reacting to the MAZE RUNNER tribology would be EVERYTHING ❤👏. He would 100% love Dylan
Quite a coincidence this video came out since I’m currently reading the books. Loved your reaction and can’t wait to see the next one
Watching this after I’ve just finished reading the book allows me to understand katniss’s every thought and to what everything means
Well, now that you've said it, I think that _Sebffie Trinket_ would be very interesting to see! 😉
Can't wait for your reaction to the next film from this franchise. The books are definitely worth reading! Also when you finish watching the other three movies, the parody versions are hysterical to watch.
Obsessed with Tracker Jackers sounding like a packet of crisps 😅 SO accurate
