I’m an inshore saltwater fisherman from Texas that uses ultralight gear. I have tried bass/crappie fishing with only marginal success. Using a rooster tail caught the most fish. I bought some trout magnets to try since I’ve got a Montana fishing trip planned and don’t know how to use a fly rod. (I’m trying to learn.). First time out I caught 13 small bass and 2 bluegill in an hour using a red and chartreuse trout magnet. I just bounced it off the bottom near the vegetation. I have an ultralight, six foot Temple Fork Trout and Panfish rod, 500 series Shimano Sahara reel with 5# braid and 8# mono leader. Great setup.
I never had luck while using the trout magnet with the bobber, I use the trout magnets without the bobbers. I cast them out and slightly bounce or jig off the bottom, and I do catch them way better. I always said you have to try what works best for you in any situations. Great information right here, you always do give us some great information and tips. Tight lines.
I too prefer to fish em no bobber, small little 1-3 inch twitches of the rod tip with a slow reel just enough to keep it off the bottom has caught me all of my trout magnet fish.
I like the versatility of them but have yet to catch a trout with them although I have caught blue gill and bass im in socal where all the urban lakes are extremely pressured
Just bought the red color and some trout magnet bobbers to fish wild sierra sierra Nevada creeks. I really like it for small isolated deep creek pools. It absolutely does catch trout. They attack it the instant it hits the water, you only have 3 max casts before all the trout in each pool get spooked and hide. I'm normally a panther martin / spinner guy but spinners aren't effective in small deep pools late in the season when the pools dont have as much flowing water through them as early summer. I still need to test the trout magnet in a river packed with browns. Theres a deep area where they wont bite spinners, im hoping this is the ticket
I didnt have much success with them till i went out with a friend who guides, now i slay with them. Both trout and panfish. It just takes some getting used to and someone willing to show you the ropes.
I've been crushing trout this season with these lures. I have the most success when I work them like a jig with no bobber. I don't use any scents, just the lure and 6lb test moss green mono.
Movement and scent is key. Great video. Like Eminem said, loose your self in the moment but if you dont have these in your tool box, you might just loose your mind when everyone else is hooking up but your "knot". Thanks for posting.
@@oogieboogie551 if you can get away with it try it without a bobber just straight line to jighead twitch along the bottom slightly takes practice to work effectively but I catch loads more fish that way.
That's wild. It's the only thing I have succeeded with (I suck). I catch small mouth, Rick bass, crappie, all sorts of sunfish and big pike once. No trout tho lol
@DirectoutdoorsTV maybe lack of patience i guess or maybe im fishing it wrong. I can watch videos on them and mimic their styles and still have no luck. Niti ones work great here though so I'll stick with them.
I’ve cut open jumbo rainbows and found 5” senkos inside them multiple times from the same lakes in summer they really be eating anything man it’s crazy
The first like two years of my trying trout magnet I didn’t catch any trout but the 3rd year until now I always catch trout on them I mainly use them when I’m going for rainbows in the winter and early spring time and either use the pink or white one
What is with using braided line ? Are you not confident enough to set the hook and not snap your line ? I use trout magnets 4 pound test line ( not braided ) no swivel a bb size split shot along with the trout magnet bobber . My vintage 4ft one piece fenwick ultra lite spinning rod and a vintage shimano ultra lite spinning reel that holds 160 yrds of 2 pound , 120 yrds of 4 pound , 80 yrds of 6 pound light . Unless you’re trying to catch trout 10 pounds and in high fast water . Theres no need for braided line . Heres a challenge for you . Use a 4 ft ultra lite and reel with 2 pound line , no swivel only use the trout magnet bobber jig and color of your choice trout magnet bait . Then I’m sure you’ll impress guys like me that are confident enough to set a hook not snapping the line and working the fish in to land it instead of horsing the fish in . I’m doubting I’ll see a video of you doing this challenge or you’ll cheat somehow in doing so . Best of luck
Braid is less brittle than fluoro so it takes day to day handling better. By using braid with flouro leader, you end up throwing away less line from abrasion because you are just swapping out leaders when they get damaged. Plus braid is a fair bit cheaper than Flouro. The Braid/Flouro combo also sinks better than Mono and is less visible at the lure than mono. Braid also tends to cast really nicely. You do run heavier line in terms of pound test on the braid, but the primary reason for that is just to match line diameters between the main line and leader. You can't just haul in with braid, since you're typically running a 2-4lb leader for trout magnets. We're not talking 15lb leader on 30lb braid like a Bass topwater setup.
What is with the 10 pound braided line ? That tells me that you must not be confident enough to use traditional fishing line , a micro size reel and ultra lite 4-4 1/2 ft one piece pole . Ive been doing it for 45 yrs and have caught 5,6,7 pound wild brown trout . Come on now .
I finally caught a fish, a bass, not a trout on a magnet and THEN I see this video! Gonna try a few of what you said today!
Right on, go get 'em with the trout magnet!

👍👍
Twitching with no bobber! That sounds like a good challenge to me!
I need a good trout reel suggestion I bought like 3 and there all to big to cast these far I’m starting to get mad lol
I've been doing this since I was born. 😅
Does rigging it on a bobber give it enough action when the wind is up? I thought maybe the waves would give it some movement.
I like the versatility of them but have yet to catch a trout with them although I have caught blue gill and bass im in socal where all the urban lakes are extremely pressured
The trout love them, just keep fishing them!

I used the TM in that exact same spot and had a limit in 20 minutes. Great spot.

Right on! 6lb mono is perfect too!
Rigging the trout magnet bobber as a slip bobber rig is another low profile trick as well especially in shallow clear streams
Yes it is Rick! Big bobbers for fast, big water, the Trout magnet bobber for slow, stealthy water for sure! Tight lines

I've lost my mind a few times when I left these at home John. Tight lines!
@@WillyFish Thank you, you too and keepem hooked.
We'll give your rips a try.
Never caught a trout on one yet but I’ve caught a 2lb bass and a lot of bluegill
Gotta love atomic teasers
I use the same rod but the baitcaster version
I needed this😂 I’ve been trying to use the trout magnet since the start of the season and haven’t caught a single fish on it😂
Are you fishing it suspended or?
@@No-tj5nr yeah I fish it behind the trout magnet float I’m small creeks and behind a weighing float in lakes and ponds

I hope the tips in the video help you land that first trout Oogieboogie!
@@No-tj5nrIf fishin on lake or pond. Do add a split shot jig. Or will it reach bottom on its own?
Do you think they would work for salmon if I used a bigger jig head
Sure, you never know unless you try!
I try trout magnets every year and never catch anything with them. Very frustrating bait 😄
That's wild. It's the only thing I have succeeded with (I suck).
I catch small mouth, Rick bass, crappie, all sorts of sunfish and big pike once.
No trout tho lol
You must be fishing it wrong bro. I catch everything on that thing

Movement is key. Take for instance, that dead trout in this video to the left. No movement..
I’m wondering how you know not to leave a Sharpie in your tackle box when in hit/warm weather?
I usually leave one in the box, but usually take it out so it doesn't explode when it's super hot.
I'm confused how your supposed to use it with a bober? Do you just cast it out?
the bobber is fixed above the hook and worm. Just hook up the jig and worm with the bobber above, adjust the bobber for depth and start casting
I crush blue gill on these. No bobber, just keep it moving
I bought the panfish ones and nothing. Not even a nibble. And matter how light the slip bobber it just dosent act right with 1/64oz jig head
I catch more big bluegill after the little ones tear the legs off
I also use a 1/48 Bobby Garland jighead instead of the trout magnet jigheads
I caught a rainbow trout with a crank bait in a half frozen pond they must have been starving
Feeding frenzy if they are going after crank baits
Yeah I got one with a small lip less crank bait they will eat when hungry
I’ve cut open jumbo rainbows and found 5” senkos inside them multiple times from the same lakes in summer they really be eating anything man it’s crazy
Never caught anything on these. Our trout ignore them.

Lol
That's why it's called fishing not catching 😂 all depends on color you choose and how you present it in the water column for the conditions
I've had the same with most other lures, but I tied one on my bass finesse rod on a whim and caught two nice brookies in two casts
I haven’t tried for trout with them really but man I slay yellow perch on them! Hogs too like 1 pounders
For the stocked trout dont use those hooks they are too big use 1/200 jig suze 14
This video would of been good if he showed how to set up for each tip given
These things slay trout at the lake when they're chilling in a spot
Yes they do Matthew! Tight lines
Tip #11 Use plenty of sunscreen. 😘
I'll add that one to the list!!
All that talk and you failed to tell what pound of fluorcarbon line that you had on the set-up
I use 6lb mono or floro. 10lb braid for mainline
@RUreddynow he clearly stated at about the 1 minute point what type of line he used…

Get with the times man braid is superior in every way other than price 😤 thinner diameter better for feeling bites and structures
FOUND THE MAGNET JUST FLOATS ON THE SURFACE, NO SINKING AT ALL
Then use the tiny jig head that it is designed for. Jeez……
a year late but just throw a split shot on...
