🎣 I enjoy using those Berkley powerbait 3-inch floating trout worms that comes in those little reusable bags and then you got those Berkley powerbait 1/2 inch nymphs as well. If you bounce them or jerk them off the bottom the right way you can start a feeding frenzy. I actually have more luck with these powerbait bags then the bait jars. More useful great tips and information, which by the way is awesome. Like always I enjoyed the video. Tight lines
Nice video! Even though this is a couple years old. This video was suggested while I was surfing TH-cam for trout videos. I just subscribe to support! I just premiered my 2nd outing of the 2025 year this morning. I was able to nab 2 trout. One on rainbow power bait balls with a small piece of orange fake worm, and my second one i caught while trolling with a yellow perch rapala. keep up the awesome videos!!!
Pro tip for powerbait: if you're using a circle hook which by nature requires more hook exposure in order to work. Pack the powerbait into a quarter inch ball then put it through the hook and slide it up to the eye of the hook. Then pack it around the eye of the hook instead, leaving the rest of the hook exposed and that will increase your hookup ratio when using circle hooks.
@Sweetaccord it depends on what type of hook you use and I use circle hooks and with circle hooks you want as much hook exposure as possible or the hook won't be able to work properly.
@@Sweetaccord a lot of people give up on using circle hooks because they think they don't work. But in reality the reason why they didn't work for them is because they either didn't have enough hook exposure to allow the hook to work properly. Or they tried to set the hook when circle hooks are meant to set themselves not the other way around.
I always use a two treble hook setup with a sliding sinker. I have never had much luck with single hook. It's probably because I have found more success with gulp than powerbait. As we all know gulp falls off the hook more easily so a treble is necessary.
I’m just starting off and taking my son out. Thankyou for your advice. Could you tell me the size of the hook I should use. I think you sis mention it in your video. Also do I have to use a float? Thanks
I use a size 12 baitholder hook when plunking with a sliding weight. You can use powerbait under a bobber, just make sure you use a weighted jig head or split shot above the hook a few inches
Cool vid what I like doing is leaving my trout nymphs and worms in the power bait seal it for a week then fish them covered in that power bait scent it works sometimes
Size 16 treble with dough. Size 8 egg hook with power eggs. Size 6 or 8 with mouse tail. I love trout attractant or corn scents. Slip sinker rig works good.
How should I use the round eggs powerboat. I don't have the jar of paste you are referring to. Should I just use one ball, or 2 or more? should I put on enough of them to cover my hook so it won't be seen? Thanks for any guidance you can give. Thanks for the helpful video.
I form mine into the shape of a guppy. And slow retrieve whether fishing a Carolina jig or a bobber (like crappy fishing). The odd shape causes the Powerbait to travel erratically as it's being reeled in. The slow retrieve creates tension on the line so you feel the fish nibbling which gives you opportunity to set the hook. Never had a gut hook with this approach. Also, I crimp the barbs on all of my hooks. This makes it safer for the fish I don't plan to keep, and easier to unhook myself on the occasion that it happens.
Hermens Outdoors,i have been going trout fishing for nearly one month, but no trout yet. i don`t really know what i`m doing wrong, but,i am using the right bait. please, give me some more advicecon what to do,to cath these trout.
Hey Gary, what type of water are you fishing, bank fishing or trolling? I would try eggs, small spinners, powerbait, and jigs. Go more natural colors too
never gotten a single trout in my ~14 year long fishing career lol. Gotta admit I have not fished for it that much, but have definitely spent some time trying to get my first trout. Bought some powerbait paste today and will try it in a couple of days to see if I can finally catch one...
I never catch trout on power bait I usually catch them on nightcrawlers I heard meal worms work good too. I just feel like they like the natural look and the movement of the nightcrawler. I will admit I don’t really fish with powerbait because the few times I have I don’t get bites but maybe it does work good I just prefer nightcrawlers or any worm
I’m halfway through the video so you may still mention it but what’s the set up?? Just a hook & powerbait? No weight? No bobber? Is it supposed to just sink to the bottom?? I’ve been using spinners and have caught a couple but I’m trying to switch it up!
Since Power Baits came out I only have ever used 4 colors. Pink, orange, mustard yellow and white. I'm not in a hurry ever so if it takes a little longer to get my limit, so be it. The jars I have are ancient but still produce.
Tip number11 a fisheye lens can make your fish look bigger. Also avoid pictures that show comparison. Don't show your hand next to it or something they know the size of. Unless it's a beast then yes show it off.
Ok here’s my 2 cents I don’t get hung up on colors . A Hatchery pellet/Chunky cheese combo is my go to White roosters Kastmasters Marshmallow/mealworm combo Also Don’t forget the mice tail & power worms Light line light rod That’s my trout gear
A single hook with a spring on the hook to hold the bait on longer than nothing else get a writing pin and tak the spring out and cut in 2or3 pieces to put one piece of the spring on the hook and powerbait it will save you money from losing bait to fast.
I sure hope some of these tips will help. I've tried dough and power eggs with a simple bobber and had ZERO luck. A pink inline spinner I got two hard yanks and that was it. No stupid little fish is outsmarting me!
Dude, you obviously know what you’re talking about but you don’t explain anything for new anglers. You said be mindful of your rigging and be simple but you don’t show any different styles of rigging. You said, depending on the conditions you want to be aware of which colors you use, but you never tell anybody which colors to use under what conditions. Unless you’re an experienced angler, you have no idea what you’re talking about in this video. Good stuff but break it down for the newbies.
Fishing is only fun when you can actually catch them. You stand there for an hour in the heat and mosqutos, even an fishing addict like myself will get turned off of trout...
I stoped listening when u mentioned color is important but didn’t say how to choose the color. That’s like saying location is important but not talking about how to find good location.
Honorable mention: Move the bait every few inches every seconds the trout love it when the smell moves and the bait moves
A great tip on slow days Daisan!
Totally agree

That was very educational and you have a great day and thanks a lot

Pink has been proven to be the best color for trout.

Great tip Thomas!

Your trout over there is very small

Go with smaller crank baits man. Me an my kiddo slam them with crankbaits
Oh a better way to keep that dough on is a treble hook!
never mind you just talked about the single and treble hook. Here in washington state if your using power bait you have to keep the trout anyways.
What size hook do you use for the power bait?
Size 12 baitholder hook

Hermen buddy ! How do you know when the power bait has expired?...is it the feel or consistency?..or..
Great question Edward, I would say anything 10+ years after opening or if the bait is super dry then it's expired...
When I use powerbait, why does it sink? Do I need to put a bigger power bait on there?
Because some of the hook is still seen if you cover all the metal hook it will float dont make the hook out of the bait
Fly Yellow
Fly White
These always work!
A single hook with a spring on the hook to hold the bait on longer than nothing else get a writing pin and tak the spring out and cut in 2or3 pieces to put one piece of the spring on the hook and powerbait it will save you money from losing bait to fast.
True that. If your hook didn't come with a spring, get the spring from a ball point pen and open it up wider.
Corn or pink is best

how do you know?
