I loved Tori riling up Apollo with the bag…crazy bird lol. I’m glad I caught this live. Your lives are so fun. Thank you for sharing your birb family with us 💕

I love your lives, I love your channel. Keep doing what you do!! 😊 You guys are my comfort channel now and Apollo is just the freaking best. I'm ordering my shrock shirt finally!!
Your live streams are more enjoyable than the shows on Netflix. I wonder, are there less commercials during the live stream? Im watching the replay and there is a commercial about every 4 minutes. It wouldn't be so bad, but when i touch the remote to skip it, My Sun conure gets violent and attacks the remote and me if i am not far enough from it. i wanted to watch you live today, Ytube said it was in 4 hours I checked again in what felt like 3 hours later and I had missed it by an hour. I watch for my Conure, but he ends up pre-occupied while i watch. Your days with your birds remind me of my childhood christmas morning, without a care, having fun playing. Its really nice, relaxing in a nurturing atmosphere. Thank you for sharing the time with us.
14:25 Massages are the human equivalent of preening! This is even scientifically supported, which I think is neat. If you think about it, when we scrub ourselves in the bath and comb our hair, we're massaging our skin. We just tend not to think of it that way, and we don't really think of a massage as grooming, because it has a greater purpose as a means of relaxation and social bonding. It feels better when other people do it, and a good back rub feels especially satisfying, since that's the hardest part of our own body to reach. Just like the back of the head for birds!
Ultra enjoyed 🤩 wow. I loved 🥰 the lying down intro. Im loving this. Outro is amazing and all the talking about these guys fun. The preening so dubiously outrageous.🎋☝️🌰🥜🌰🥜🌰🌰🥜
So in Dr Pepperberg's training she said that the reward system was crucial - where they receive that object as a reward instead of a food reward, which is often used in other training techniques. And that food rewards are also sparingly used. How come you guys use food (snacks) instead? Sorry if this has been answered before, I'm a new viewer. Really enjoyed the videos I've watched so far!
Food rewards were also an integral part of Alex's training. To the point of giving the object itself as a reward, we have done and do that as well, but we believe that due to the differences in being raised in the home environment as opposed to the laboratory setting, Apollo has more freedom and access to various things than Alex did. This results in him not being as invested in individual objects for extended periods of time as he gets bored of them/they become normal everyday things at a much faster rate. Though some objects do hold his attention/desire for a long time, enough that sometimes that overcomes the desire for a food reward, bells being the best example. Food reward always has the same level of effectiveness when not full, but most objects become mundane after a point.
@ApolloandFrens Ah okay, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the response and thank you both again for the video's, I found you guys through the TH-cam shorts. it's fascinating to be able to see the progress and I'm now also a big fan of Ophelia and Soleil from this live video haha! I know you guys have said that peanuts are rich in fat but generally aren't that nutritious- So i was wondering if you would recommend feeding wild and feral birds like crows and pigeons with other nuts? Peanuts are generally cheaper and easier to find in bulk than other nuts, but if they're significantly low in nutrients that will benefit wild birds then i might try out something else next time i need to stock up.
Fat is much less of a concern for wild birds as they’re getting a proper amount of physical exertion, the biggest thing is making sure whatever you’re giving doesn’t have added sodium or sugar. The best thing you could give is dried bugs, but that’s much more expensive
Not sure if you answer questions in the comments section, but just in case: Can Apollo and the girls have acorns, or does the tannic acid affect them like it does humans? I know some animals are fine with it, but afaik it's mostly ruminants (and a few hind gut fermenters), but acorn woodpeckers feed primarily on 'em so I'm curious if other birds can digest them o:

Because there are only so many words he can speak. Once he can say more answers he will be asked more questions. When he becomes able to pronounce more numbers he'll be asked more "how many" questions, when he figures out how to pronounce "cloth" and "plastic" those will be added to the roster, etc. There's also the issue of how things are classified, which Dalton explains a bit around the end.
