    Just great; good ol' fashion "back-yard engineering". Done right, and not done in such a way to break the bank. Great job, Om.

      i think mine is a 1973 by the look of the engine cover. it came with a 14' x 36" Dayton boat and trailer and Predator 8hp engine with a mud skipper kit. mud motor?

    I love your JD in the background. My father in law has the original JD 40D (looks just like yours) his Dad purchased for their farm in Maine when he was a boy and spent his youth working on their farm. It still runs great and works the same 200 acres!

      That is great. I wonder if John Deere new when they made these tractors that we would still be using them 50 plus years later.

    Thank you for putting out some of the best how-to material on TH-cam! You are an excellent mechanic, and you are an excellent teacher (please don’t sell yourself short). You obviously understand the mechanics involved on whatever you happen to be working on. And, you know how to explain what you are doing, why you are doing it and what you want to accomplish in a crystal clear and simple to understand way. You LIKE teaching and you are GOOD at it. You put out the right amount of information, your camera work is EXCELLENT.
    Much respect and thank you again. You are providing an excellent product; education not simply entertainment.

    It's good to see you posting an outboard repair video again! Also, I see that your area of the country greens up much faster than here in Northwest Ohio, you have greened up trees, bugs flying around, and are in a short sleeve shirt. Our trees haven't showed any buds yet, and we had snow not too long ago.

    • @Justin-tp3lr
      @Justin-tp3lr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We just had ice out last week up here in Maine. The trees are starting to bud out now. Can't wait to get out on the water, as soon as my parts get here so I can do a full tune on my 72' fisherman.

    Great video. You are a great teacher. Quick question: What type of drill do you use to spin the motor??

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using a 1/2 drive Milwaukee drill. That is the ones that will try to hurt you if you are not careful. It sure beats pulling on the pull cord.

    Good video brother. I've been wondering when you were going to post a video. I stay in lumberton nc. I would like you to check my motor out. Evinrude 25 hrp. It smokes more than i like. What would cause it to smoke a lot 2 stroke

    • @craftsmandude8916
      @craftsmandude8916 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Curtis w Jackson it’s probably a 50:1 motor and you may by running a richer premix(40:1, 30:1, 24:1, etc) witch will make it smoke a little more. It won’t hurt it, but will most likely oil up the plugs a little more, in my opinion I think it’s better to run a richer mix because if your carb isn’t tuned exactly right in may not get as much oil from running it lean. But I wouldn’t worry about it because a lot of smoke is way better than no smoke at all (in a 2 stroke)

      Yes, spin the shaft 180 degrees

      The other side I did not video because it was a repeat of the first side. I did turn the shaft to set the points.

  • @fleetwin1

    Even the best outboards require maintenance. Is that fuel pump oriented correctly, kinda looks upside down...The starter rope has been cut too short also, that should be replaced... The owner obviously doesn't appreciate what he has there, can't buy reliable engines like that anymore....

  • @Justin-tp3lr
    @Justin-tp3lr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I hate those jesus clips.. wait for all my parts to come in so I can fix mine. Do you have a video on changing that top seal under the points? As the fuel line goes I had a friends motor had the same problem. He had a mercury fuel clip instead of a evinrude/Johnson.

    I have 1970 evinrude 6hp runing good I change water pump also change thermostat but still engine get in hot water don’t get circulate need help

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have in the past put a few ounces more mix oil in the gas to see if that makes a difference. If the engine is till running hot after water pump and thermostat. I would pull the head off, and look to see if the water jackets around the cylinders is clean and not full of scale. The most is would cost is the price of the gasket.
