  • Help support my channel by using the link. www.amazon.com... How to Rebuild a outboard carburetor, step by step with no step skipped. This is how I did my carburetor. I did not take the high speed orifice out because it was in their so tight, I would have had to get a new high speed orifice and float chamber. Sometimes you are better off to clean a stuck part in place before damaging other parts around it.

    Your videos are very useful and helpful.... I'm watching, I have a 1970 Evinrude 18 hp Fastwin. Carb rebuild, lower unit seals, water pump kit, points and condensers, pull cord, just took out a 1969 Evinrude 9.5 I tuned , carb, plugs timed her, runs fantastic, just to small for my boat. Very explanatory.... Learn everytime I watch.. Stay safe my friend

      Om Fishing I rebuilt the carburetor , the fuel pump, the water pump, replaced the fuel lines and thermostat . Replaced the gears in the handle. Got it where you can turn it and freed up the tilt and throttle. I got it cranked and it ran for a couple of minutes and shut off. I realized it wasn’t pumping water so I quit with it unit I can see if I can run water threw it with a pump and test the new pump. I really appreciate your hard work on the videos.

    I nominate you for an Oscar in the "Most useful, best filmed " video category. Seems to be a controversy on that allowable float drop. Some reputable sources (not necessarily more than you sir) profess that it should be measured from the carb lower lip to the float's bottom. But then, what's an Oscar nomination without a good controversy ? LOL ! Love ALL your videos !

      So, my carb rebuild kit came in. I started to take the carb off the engine only to find the electric starter motor to be in the way of the second nut. I can't see any way to get the nut off without taking off the whole damn starter motor. Am I missing a trick here or a special wrench? Any instructions on how to remove the starter. It does not look that straight forward. I got all nuts and bolts off the starter but looks like attached toward the back with all kinds of "stuff" to disconnect. HELP!

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Starter Motor Removal 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from battery. 2. Remove the starter solenoid from the starter bracket. 3.Remove the screws securing the vertical throttle shaft clamp to the power head. Remove the clamp. 4.Disconnect the red cable from the starter motor. 5.Remove the screws and locknut securing the starter motor bracket to the power head. Lift the starter and bracket off the power head.
      Installation, 6. To install place the solenoid in the starter bracket and secure the clamp with 2 screws. Make sure the rubber sleeve is properly installed around the solenoid. 7. Place the starter bracket on the power head and install the 2 screws and lockwashers are installed under the lower screw. Securely tighten the screws and locknut. 8. Install the vertical throttle shaft on the power head. Install the vertical shaft clamp screws. Tighten the screws securely. 9. Attach all wires to the positive battery cable terminal. 10. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.

      @@OmFishing I did get to finally removing the starter per the above instructions and did the carburetor rebuild as per the video. It was EASY PEAZY!!! My carb was slightly different, but not anything that prevented my from following the video and getting it done. The longest part of the whole project was getting the damn starter motor out of the way and put back together. A bad design in my mind to have the starter obstruct getting to that second nut on the carb. Anyway, the BEST part is that with a little priming the engine started right up!! I saved about $125 according the the bill for the last time i had the local repair shop do it. THANKS!!! GREAT VIDEO AND INSTRUCTIONS!

      It was a 85 evinrude 7 hp 2 stroke. The carb was seized up. I got it back together. The plastic throttle linkage snapped prior to me cleaning it. I rigged it and got it back together. It started up first pull for about 3 seconds and died. Haven’t had time to go back in there and check it out. I cleaned one of the jets. I’m thinking I missed a jet on the bottom of the carb. I replaced fuel line going to fuel pump. I didn’t see any fuel flowing thru line. So I’m thinking it’s gunked up in the fuel pump or that second jet it clogged like the first one was.

  • @vinceoshea8449
    @vinceoshea8449 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very helpful video, thanks for posting. When re-installing the float you mentioned it should be within a range of distances (for your engine). Videos for other engines indicate flush with mounting surface. My question: For yours or other OMC engines how do you adjust the float travel if it is not within the proper range. If you covered that in the video, I missed it. Thanks!

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check for correct positioning of the float level. The float level controls the height of fuel in the float chamber and is critical with regard to carburetor calibration. I first turn carburetor body upside down and hold so gasket surface is horizontal. I try to make sure the float is level with the carburetor surface. They make a gauge to check this i don't have one so i just make sure it is level with carb. When checking for float drop This affects the full opening of the inlet needle and is crtical to correct operation. With the carburetor in normal running position the float must drop open 1 1/8 in to 1 5/8 in on a 25 to 30 hp outboard. To adjust bend tab on float arm where tab contacts float seat. Be careful not to force float needle valve into seat. I always make sure the float is not resting on the chamber bottom.

    You had the new core plugs, why wouldnt you knock them out and soak the entire carby in acetone before putting it back together? You were right there anyways and theres no telling if theres any gunk / build up behind the plugs. Hope it doesnt come back to bite you.

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use this motor a lot and I feel sure it is clean. If I did not know the motor you are right it needs to be checked. That would be crazy not to make sure it is good. I could see the cleaner was spraying out of the holds inside of the carb. They were open . good catch thanks for pointing that out.

    Hi there, I have an 87’ evinrude. 25hp 2 stroke. I ordered a carb kit for it and rebuilt the carburetor, went through the fuel pump it looks good. I started it up and it idled fine for awhile. Put it in the water and was able to throttle it up and go and also run at idle as well. The next day it fired right up and idled at first but after running around for about 10 minutes or so at around 3/4 throttle it won’t idle after letting off the throttle and dies. Sometimes if I play with the choke I can get it to stay running, any ideas on what might be causing it to act up? Prior owner had similar issues and thought it was the fuel pump but I popped the cover on the fuel pump and it seemed fine including the little screen inside. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks so much!

    Thank you for this very helpful video. Much appreciated. I have a 1987 50 hp. I've had trouble with warm hard starts and today it started bogging down and stalling above 2000 rpm. Seems like it's flooding. Any advice sir? Thank you.

      I would make sure I had a good strong spark at the spark plugs. You might have to get a tester to see if the spark can jump the 1/2 inch gap. When you say trouble when warm, That makes me think electrical. Check it cold and warm.

    Can you tell me the model number for the motor this carburetor came off of? I need to rebuild the carburetor for a 1979 Evinrude 35hp engine model number 35952A and I am not seeing some of parts such as the intermediate and high speed orifices, the primmer nipple and the jet adjustment screw that you counted the turns at the beginning of the video. Just trying to understand the differences so that I don't miss something.

    very informative video and i appreciate it . I'm having trouble getting my 200 johnson started. I can take the spark plugs out and put fogging oil in and it will hit for a split second
    that's it . any suggestions ?

      I always start with the easy stuff first. What year is your 200 Johnson. I have a 1993 225 Evinrude Ocean Pro. I have went through that engine inside and out. It runs great now. Parts are so expensive. And to take it to someone can leave you with a large bill. If you are like me you can do a lot of reading to find a problem. I woud just start with one component at a time and make sure it reads or test to factory specification. I need to know year and model to help with anymore information.

    I just saw this video and had left you a message on another about the small lead plug on top of the carb that you show at 6:42.My 20hp is like yours and the plug is loose when I took my needle valve out and it appears the top piece of lead poped off.Do you think this could suck air in there even though I put the idle screw back in?I could not tell where the hole for that little lead plug was in relation to the end of the needle and hole.How do I fix it?Melt lead in there or maybe some JB Weld on top of it?thanks

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The service manual says the small lead plug is there so you can inspect passage for restrictions or leaks. To remove it gently pry up on lead shot with a sharp edged tool. Install a new lead shot. Flatten shot with flat end punch and plastic Check for leaks. Their should not be air leaking around the shot.

    • @wish2fish37
      @wish2fish37 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info.What I noticed is that down in where the slow Speed needle threads in is what appears to be part of this lead plug that is attatched to what's left of the plug and I can watch it move if I move the lead plug..It does not obstruct the needle though..Seems the needle goes in and misses those pieces in there.Not sure why or how if the plug was pressed on the carb or hammered in the hole how any would end up inside where the slow speed needle goes?Should I pull the needle out and punch it in?No way to pull it out the way it is in there.

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I am looking at the service manual correct it states Check for leaks between emulsion pickup tube and Carburetor body. Invert carburetor body and fill idle circuit with isopropyl alcohol. Check for leaks at point a which is the pickup tube coming right above the low speed jet in side the carb. If a leak occurs blow dry and apply a drop of omc ultra lock at point. With that being said just make sure it don't leak air.

      Thank you so much.Now I did run motor and put my finger over where the plug was broke off and loose.It did make a big difference.RPM's shot up right away.I removed the needle and only option was to push the remaining lead back down in hole and it took alittle effort to work it out of hole since it had the bottom flaired.Now I am not sure what to use or how to push
      the lead down in so it does not work it's way back out.Not sure how the factory got the flair on the inside of the needle jet hole which kept it from coming up out?

    Thank you I’ve been looking everywhere for that needle valve adp, part. I have a 1977 35 Evinrude and I think someone changed the carb . Because when I pull one up on the internet it shows a different carb . Mine has some kind of Vacuum choke pull knob not a Solenoid . Help !!! is it Normal when I squeeze the bulb very tight , for gas to come out the screen on the side of the carb?

    • @OmFishing

      First of all the float should shut off the fuel before it comes out the vent. so I would check the float height. The part number that is gave was for a 1991 Evirude 30hp Model E30REIC. I see what you are talking about when I look at your motor that carb is not on that one. If you look up my model you will see what you are looking for.

    Do you have the part number for the adapter sleeve you broke? I'm doing a rebuild an Evinrude Fisherman 9.9 this winter and I may find the part ahead of time before I do the tear apart. I tried screen-capping and zooming in on the label but it was too blurry. Thanks!

      The part I broke was a Needle valve adapter Part # 0335564. That carburetor was off a 30 hp evinrude. The 9.9 fisherman has a different set up. Check out my video on that motor.

      Run it till it quits then check and see if it is getting spark right after it quits and check and see if it is getting fuel. Most likely it is one of them or at least a good place to start.

      @@OmFishing Good morning. Thank you for your interest. I learned a lot about this engine by watching your videos, thank you. Now, the engine starts at the quarter turn, but smokes white in my garage. It must be normal. But there are adjustments to be made. The compression is 8 bar for both cylinders. As I often plan to leave with my boat for several days, it is not reliable enough for me on our rivers. I bought a new one of same power 4 times and electric start. Thank you from France.

    Hello I just had my Carburator rebuilt on my evinrude 30hp . But now it’s hard to start, sneezing, shuts off after a couple of seconds & dripping oil from the propeller. I’m so tired of this outboard. Is it a rebuilt carburetor?

    • @Username-username6
      @Username-username6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Propeller where exhaust comes out? So fuel out of the exhaust? Sounds like it’s flooding. Could be a stuck float or poorly adjusted float height. Stuck float trick it tapping the bowl of the carb with a screw driver handle and it could release it. Try to restart and see what happens. Otherwise pull it and assess valve seat and needle tip condition. If it looks good check float height, adjust per your manual and reinstall. Invest in an used service manual for your motor. Looks up model number in metal plate at Crowley marine and search for the specific service manual part number and then check ebay for a cheap used copy. If that doesn’t work just search tour model number plus “service manual” on eBay. This will cover your whole motor, including the carb. Mine was $20 and is well worth it. Service manual, not owners manual! Good luck!

      D Reynolds thanks for your help. Since my carburetor was rebuilt a couple of times. Kind of was hoping they did the job right but always have it in the back of my mind that maybe the float is stuck. Thanks for your time in helping me out. I’ll notify you when I get back to it I had put it away. I was so tired of dealing with it

    • @OmFishing
      @OmFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well my first guess the carburator is not right. If you are dripping fuel out of the exhaust that is a lot of fuel. A engine has to have the right fuel air mixture to run. That is running to rich with fuel.

    • @cramos6638
      @cramos6638 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Om Fishing does a good working fuel pump not supposed to let gas go back to the fuel tank ? Or it must remain between the fuel pump & carburetor even when not in use?
