One thing I did when installing the stopper was put a small rag to the left of the shifter to keep the 7mm nut or the small washer from dropping into the transmission.
After watching this video a few days ago I ordered the Perrin Shifter Stop for my 17 WRX. I installed it yesterday and let me just say that I am thankful I did!! Very noticeable difference now with smooth shifting and solid gear position. Thanks @Coop_Nation for the vid!! Blessings!
Awesome!! I'm glad the part and install worked out for you! I can't believe the difference this little mod made when it comes to shifting gears. I highly recommend this mod to everyone.
Something that helped me: Wrap a piece of tape around your finger and stick the tiny nut on the tape that way you can use one finger to get in there and get it started on the thread. My hands were too big to get it on and this saved my butt.
man this was the best mod I've done to my WRX! I had to adjust it a couple times over a week to get it just right. weighted shift knob also helps improve the gate to gate feel.
The Works Motorsports shift knob I have has some weight to it. I noticed an immediate change after I installed this shift stop. By far this is the best mod I've done so far.
i forgot to adjust mine and it worked great for a few months but now im having issues in 5th and 6th so im going to try adjusting it. at first I had thought it was gear oil i put in which had limited slip modifier which I had already swapped out for OEM but im pretty sure its my shift stop and short shifter i installed.. good video!
DiZaZTeR if I remember correctly you should be using 75w90 gear oil. The only car that used a limited slip gear oil is an STI rear diff. Over time those bolts can loosen up so once you adjust them you should be just fine.
the slop in 1st and 2nd doesnt affect driving what does is how much to the left the shifter goes in neutral before you can put it in 1st or 2nd. with this, 3 to 2 downshifts are much easier cuz they are now closer if you know what i mean. its a cool little mod i dont know why subaru didnt put 2 ...
Glad to see you got the stop man. It's a pain to get it spaced correctly. I set mine up really tight where there isn't any play at all. I still have it up and down though even with the perrin bushing.
Great video I actually installed mines today!! But could anybody tell me what’s the purpose of the rubber thing that wrapped around the shifter because mines came off🤔🤔
Good stuff! That shift stop makes a world of a difference! Also, the Boomba short shift transmission plate is a huge game changer. If you haven't already. Sweet content!
I've been following you for a while but never subbed. I'll do it now lol but I bought one myself as well last week but the shipping is delayed. I also bought the perrin shifter bushing as well for it. Might make a video for it as well when it comes in lol.
Thank you for the Sub!! I have that bushing as well, I haven't had a chance to install it yet though. When you make those videos let me know, I want to check them out.
Excuse me what does that "spacer" do? That washer does absolutely nothing. Equal pressure? It's supposed to be a little tighter than hand tight. That's hand tight with 1/8 of a turn on the wrench. It's going to be equal pressure, because the nut was specifically made for that bolt. That washer will not extend the life of you shifter housing. That was a waste of 50 cents or whatever they charge. If it was more 50 cents i would be very upset.
great video man the camera angle was perfect it's good to see someone who's not a pro at these things doing it and helps us simpletons tackle the same stuff .Im looking at getting this .Question is do i need the Perrin bushing also or can i just get this and it will tighten up the shifter feel enough?
This piece is mainly for the slop in first and second. The shift bushing helps a good amount and it’s really not expensive. If you can get both then definitely do that. And thank you for the support!!
Reverse is on top of the 5th and 6th stopper. That's why the stopper is there, because it is positioned exactly where reverse is. The white paint is where the stock settings for the shifter are supposed to be. That insures that 5th 6th and reverse can all be accessed. If you move on to aftermarket shifters, such as a billet shifter, you will need to adjust the stopper position, as billets reverse lockout is much longer than the stock one. However all positons of the stock stopper will allow access to all the gears. If you use a stock shifter however, make sure you match paint to paint, very important. You will never find 5th or 6th, but you will find reverse, without reverse lockout. For a billet shifter your stock stopper will be all the way out, with a stock shifter, it will be all the way in.
I don't see the purpose for adding a washer under the 7mm nut as it doesn't even touch the perrin stop brace. Can anyone explain the purpose of this piece?
This removes a small amount left to right play in the shifter but there is still a ton of slop. Unfortunately there are no products that can fix this for the 2015+ wrx. Only fix is to swap in an STi trans, clutch, and shifter assembly. These cable clutches are not great.
So I made a fuck up and dropped the 7mm bolt in the transmission, I found another 7mm in my tool box drawer. Would the 7mm nut I dropped in the transmission mess anything up? It’s a serious but dumb question
Coop_Nation No I am talking about the stock bolts that are removed. I lost one and am having trouble with dealership on the phone about the part location/name
kevin Just most of the time I get it the first time, some times I have to try 2x, sometimes I feel like I'm forcing it into gear but it gets in. It's pretty weird honestly
This is the second time this happened to me after installing the Perrin shift stop it works perfectly fine but after I drive the car for about a month the oem shift stop moves way off to the right which cause my shifter to not able to find 5th and 6th gear. I'm pretty sure it's because the screw aren't tight enough which probably causes the oem shifter to move to the right but how tight am I suppose to tighten the screw? This issue is extremely dangerous because when im on the freeway and it doesn't shift into 5th that's a huge issue. Is this a common problem or did I just not tighten the screw enough both times?
I believe Perrin provides the torque specs for the provided bolts. Check out their site and torque them down to the correct spec and that should solve your problem. I haven't had that issue yet, but I'll keep en eye out for it.
So I found the install instructions and they actually don't have a torque spec for those two bolts. If I were you I would personally call them and explain what the situation is and maybe they have a fix for it.
Coop_Nation shift is smooth for 1 and 2nd. Also I don’t need to pull up the shift to reverse . Only problem is going to 5th. Seems to be stuck. Thanks for the reply
If I got the short throw shifter from the dealer does they put in the factory shift stop cause mine looks like yours "the play I mean" it's not as sloppy as yours was stock
buzocaperuso I don't recall if this is compatible with the STI short shifter. You'll have to do a little more research before buying it. If I can find some more information for you I'll pass it along.
I have a sti short throw and I’ve had issues installing it. I can’t put it into 1 or 2. Seems like the lock out piece is in the way and I have to pull on it in order to get it into 1 or 2.

Great advise! I probable should have done that as well.
that works. i've even gotten a smal tube with a magnet simply to get nuts started without dropping them. Good advice with the rag
I followed that advice with the rag, worked like a charm
I dropped a washer down there and now it's gone, is that gonna be a problem? I don't even know why it's necessary
@@gnarkilleptic4871 dropped mine too

It took me a while to finally get it lined up! And when I finally got it lined, it moved when I was tightening the bolt! Hahaha.
Same here, I had to press down with my thumb while tightening it up. It made a big difference for me.
I finally tightened it down enough where it didn't move after I adjusted it.
Thanks for the video and the clarification on everything. Going to be installing this within the week. Cheers!
You’ll love it when you’re done installing it!!
Next time use a t handle Allen screw driver. Overall a great video.
I had to use whatever I had at my disposal at the time. You’re right though, a t handle Allen screw driver would have been a lot better.
Am i the only one who fails to see the purpose of those spacers? what are they spacing?? Seems to just save you a few threads when tightning your nut.
I'm not sure why they are there either.
I know you had to do what you had to do. It was a great video. Keep up the great work my friend.
Thank you!
Im late to watch this, but why on earth did Subaru not think to add one of these to 1/2nd gear? If it comes with one for 5/6 why not all around?...
Great video I actually installed mines today!! But could anybody tell me what’s the purpose of the rubber thing that wrapped around the shifter because mines came off🤔🤔

Coop_Nation absolutely man! hey have you heard anything abt a lot of subie owners say we should invest in a pitch stop mount?
I didnt see you test reverse when setting your gaps. Hope you didnt have to take it back apart to be able to reverse lol.
I didn't have to change anything on the reverse side of the shiftier.
Reverse is on top of the 5th and 6th stopper. That's why the stopper is there, because it is positioned exactly where reverse is. I don’t believe so, but obviously if you feel anything out of the ordinary you need to look into it ASAP.
The two 10 mm bolts that come off that is the silver bracket plate called? I need to reorder the bolt and couldn’t locate a part number
Are you talking about the bolts that come in the kit from Perrin?
Coop_Nation
No I am talking about the stock bolts that are removed. I lost one and am having trouble with dealership on the phone about the part location/name
So, taking a look at the shifter assembly it looks like those bolts are part of what they call the gear shift lever assembly (p/n 35010VA010).
do you ever have trouble putting it into first at like a stop light? mine sometimes really is a pain to get it in and have to try multiple times.

Coop_Nation shift is smooth for 1 and 2nd. Also I don’t need to pull up the shift to reverse . Only problem is going to 5th. Seems to be stuck.

Anyone that has this problem needs to loosen bolts again and adjust the other shift stop. Loosen, throw into 5th, then adjust

Do you have a link for the price or buy?
I got mine on subibros.com. They will have the current pricing on their website.

To be 100% honest I'm not sure. If yours is anything like mine then I would say do this mod.
Coop_Nation they must do something cause it's just like the Perrin stop play. Do you have a short throw shifter?
I don't have one yet, but I'll be getting one in the future.
Anyone know if this will fit the same way on the 2018 WRX with stock shifter?
I believe the shifters are the same from 15 and up.
It will fit but the only problem is that the reverse lift will pop up if you are too aggressive in switching in first and second gear.
Shoul i get one if a have the wrx with the sti shifter?

Its from a company called WORKS Motorsports.
