    2018 install...
    Just finished installing and here's a little tip: The brown paper packaging that is supplied is perforated into strips roughly the size of a candy bar. Tear off a single strip, crease it down the middle vertically and rest it below the 7mm nuts before removal and during the reinstall. This way you won't lose the nut WHEN you drop them, because unless you have the fingers of a 5yo and the dexterity of a surgeon you WILL drop at least one. The brown paper trick saved me big time.
    I also tightened the nuts semi-snug and then used a toothpick to push the washer to the center.
    Good luck.

      Old comment i know but how do you know which one to order? It says theres one for 15-17 and 18+ with sti short throw and then theres one for 18+ without short throw.
      I've inspected 2 18+ wrx's and they both look the same as the shifter in the video. I couldnt tell if they had a sti short throw or not

    Best 20 bucks spent on my car. Don't know why this couldn't be standard off the production line...either way, you won't regret this cheap, but highly noticeable upgrade.

    makes a really big difference! 1st to 2nd is so much better! Also the brass bushing is great. Feels like how it should have come from the factory. Both extremely easy and affordable upgrades that make such a big difference! Thank you subiespeed for the quick shopping too!

    Great product, one issue is not finding 5th once you release the stock shift stop... 5th gear is closer to 3rd gear than the right side of the shift total stop. Everyone is having problems with 5th gear because the shifter is extending PAST 5th gear gate. Try to move your 5th gear "shift" closer to 3rd and you'll find it again. Had this problem and I thought I was going to have to take it to Subaru before I did a bit of googling. Awesome product all together!

    If the bolts keep spinning when you try to remove them to install the washers jam a screwdriver in between the bolt head and the plastic with one hand and turn the wrench with the other.
    Then complain to Subaru about them keep trying to hold bolt heads still with plastic.

    Bottom nut and washer went on no problem. Top one not so much tried for over an hour and it wouldn't budge. The rod kept trying to move but the nut wouldn't budge. It shifts just fine so it's going to stay that way any thoughts as to how it might affect? There is the slightest amount of wiggle in the unit at the top obviously without a washer but not enough to be concerned

  • @ReconRider

    So I installed to a tea. And I go to let the clutch out in first and the car bogs and stalls. Is it possible there stop is too far over to the right and not letting 1st “fully” engage even though I I set the spacing and can get into every gear just fine. I have a 2018 base WRX with the boomba short shifter. Should I be using the Perrin PSP-INR-018 or PSP-INR-019 shift stop?

  • @clairvoyantdetails8423
    @clairvoyantdetails8423 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I put this on my WRX last night, I had to redo it once since I think the OEM shifter moved after adjusting 5th gear and going into 1st. I couldn't get it into 5th after full install >.>
    But I still have 'some' issues with 5th, not sure if it is just me or if I am going in at the 'wrong' angle, I am going to go and redo it once again, not sure if the washers play a huge role in this or not..
    this is not a difficult install, the hardest part was making sure the opposite shifter stop doesn't move when adjusting

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it may take some readjusting. Just take some time to make sure everything is lined up straight and you'll be set! We've been loving ours, it really cleans up the shifter.

    • @clairvoyantdetails8423
      @clairvoyantdetails8423 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      1 and 2 gear are perfect, it is the 5th gear that didn't go in when I was on the freeway today, I had to 'retry' to get it to shift into 5th, I don't recall going in at any different of an angle either...
      I think the washers are as good as they are going to get, I just hand tightened, then 1/2 turn, looks like it could go more though easily, they were very easy to undo when I first took them off.

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Nguyen, CMA Like you said, you're probably going to have to go in and readjust the stock plastic stop. We had to do the same to get it just right.

    • @clairvoyantdetails8423
      @clairvoyantdetails8423 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I will adjust 1st gear first, then 5th, I noticed the OEM one moves more than the perrin one when adjusting.
      how important are the washers? I mean they are on there....

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Washers are important but your main concern is with the perrin and stock shift stop.

  • @jeremyalmquist27
    @jeremyalmquist27 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I installed this about a year ago correctly, to include the washers. Now my shift seems to not be centered. It pushes a little to the 1st and 2nd side. So I now have to give the slightest push over to get it into 3rd or 4th. Would this have any relation to this install?

    • @7781296
      @7781296 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be wear on the spring or whatever mechanism that sends the shifter back to neutral between 3/4 gears.

    do you still need this with the factory short shifter? Do you know if the loose is gone with the factory STS?

  • @adevincenzo
    @adevincenzo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Should I also place the shifter in 2nd and 6th when creating that tiny gap between the stoppers and shifter? If it is in 1st and 5th only, won't that created an angle?

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you want to make sure you can access all gears properly. Just be careful when shifting so you don't move the stoppers and make yourself start over.

    • @InputLavelle
      @InputLavelle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, don't touch the fucking reverse lockout. It's pointless. If you move that shit you're screwing up 5th and 6th. I installed a Boomba STS and moving that thing a 1/8" will screw up your shifts into 5th/6th.
      Next time tell the dumb ass not to wiggle the reverse lockout in the video. That's a horrible fucking idea for such an easy installation.

      Dang dude....why is it a lemon? What was wrong with it?

    My base WRX came with the factory STi short shifter option, don't feel the need for this but I could be wrong?..

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The short shifter has a different purpose than the Perring Shifter Stop. The stop really cleans up your shifts and gets rid of the play.

    • @outhousea
      @outhousea 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SubiSpeed so the sti short throw shifter for the wrx would benefit from this?

    • @SubiSpeed
      @SubiSpeed  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Outhouse Yes, this cleans up the shifting mechanism very well.

      I know this is old but for someone down the road who may see it. I have the STI short throw and I installed it just fine...just be sure to tighten the new bolts enough that they don't start moving from normal use.

      Thanks for the reply Ryan! We have confirmed plenty of other clients using this on their WRX with the factory STI short throw from the factory.
