Peter Sellers CBE (born Richard Henry Sellers; 8 September 1925 - 24 July 1980) was an English actor and comedian. He first came to prominence performing in the BBC Radio comedy series The Goon Show, featured on a number of hit comic songs and became known to a worldwide audience through his many film roles, among them Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series

I think when Peter Sellers visited his parents ashes in Golders Green Crematorium a few days before he collapsed from a heart attack and died he must of known his time was near, or sensed it. He was an amazing actor and one of the funniest I’ve seen on television. I’m 51 now but I was around 9 years old when he died in 1980, and a few years after that in 1988 my dad died. For a sombre place, Golders Green Crematorium, looks well kept, and the main brick building is nice. Isn’t it sobering to think, no matter who we are, rich or poor, famous or just ordinary we all end up in the same place, when we reach that point of no return. It’s sad though his children were disinherited by the woman who inherited his entire estate.
A true legend-There will be no-one like him again-I was only 10 at the time when he passed away in 1980-He was only 54 - U were great.

Thanks Paul lovely tribute again. Peter such a talented funny man, my uncle used to take myself and my cousins to see the pink panther films. Peter Sellers was his favourite actor laughing at the films and seeing the tears of laughter coming down my uncle's face brings back great memories and I still love watching them now. R.I.P Peter and thanks for so much joy 😊🌹

Our house was filled with laughter each time a pink panther movie starring Peter Sellers was on telly. Mum would howl with laughter. He was such a funny man. Rest of peace, rise in glory Peter. Also thank you Paul for showing us this wonderful actor’s final resting place.

Thank you for mentioning that cemetery. It has an interesting history. Jack Warner (Dixon of Dock Green fame) is one of the many actors buried there but it was sad to read about the mass burials/memorials. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_London_Cemetery

Great tribute to a fine actor!! So sad that he passed away relatively young. He didn't even get to see his parent's ashes there himself. 😢

I grew up watching Peter's films, loved the Pink Panther films and The Party best! 😂
He should always be remembered for the amazingly, talented man that he was!!

Was only 9 when he died and I was a huge Pink Panther fan (cartoon) time I got to watch the film you can imagine how disappointed I was as a child. (I won’t ruin the spoiler in case anyone hasn’t seen the films.) However did appreciate the films later on in life. As for the Goons I don’t really remember them only Peter, Harry and Spike in their own careers. All three so talented. ❤
As a child I absolutely LOVED the Pink Panther movies. Seen them all!
They would make me laugh hard, and at the end of watching a Pink Panther movie I would feel so happy. They made a person feel good.
Sadly though, out of his great catalogue of movies he was in, the only other Peter Sellers movie I have seen is "Casino Royal", and that's because I'm a big James Bond nut.
The man had a superb career. One of the best innovative actors of his time.
He was a strange man in real life, but he had a brilliant mind when it came to his craft.

Only Michael Bentine left of the Goons Paul..Loved all the Pink Panther's films...he died so young really didn't he? ...I know bad health followed him about. And. Unfortunately caught him up...eventually .I wasn't a lover of his last film. Being There...Fondly remembered with love and a laugh...Thanx Paul for showing this one....

For me I remember Peter for his performance of the three characters in the Dr Stangelove movie, namely as Group Captain Mandrake, President Muffley and Strangelove himself (Alien Hand Syndrome anyone?) 🤣 It took an incredible amount of acting ability and comic genius to pull off these three contrasting characters convincingly. A Best Actor Oscar that never was. RIP Peter Sellers. Your legacy lives on.

My dad used to own a 54 foot ex Royal Navy wooden converted house boat that had been used in a film called “double bunk” with Peter Sellers and Sid James amongst others

Oh Paul you always make me smile…you should have been on the stage yourself! Dear Peter Sellers - can’t believe it’s 43 years now since he passed, far too young, and so very sad. His membership of The goon Show, was just brilliant, and along with Harry Secombe and the incomparable Spike Millican they formed a formidable team, whose humour will,never seem dated I feel. Never any vulgarity or swearing, just good sense of humour funnies…bless them, (wonder who they are entertaining as a trio upstairs now!! 🤔) I can remember a pop song he made with the beautiful Sophia Loren too…which was funny…her heart kept going boom didi boom every time he was near! And I can imagine it did with Peter. He didn’t look a heart throb with his dark framed glasses, but had quite a number of lovely ladies in his life and along side in films. casino royale is a memorable film. But like your memory, I think the Pink panther films are so funny, and it’s great we can go back in film time and see these old shows again if we want to. How sad he didn’t get to meet with his old pals that night for dinner, and how typically funny he had “In the mood” played at his funeral knowing they hated it yet would have to sit through it! A typical Peter stunt! The last clip you showed of “The whiff in the lift” must have been such fun to make…I just wonder how many takes they had to record without on of them cracking up!

If you haven’t seen it before, then take a look at the interview with Michael Parkinson with Peter relating the tale of Peter O’Toole making LAWRENCE of ARABIA, and the scene where even the sedate Alec Guiness was reduced to tears of laughter when a beard which was supposed to be “stuck” to a fellow actor’s face slipped down due to the extreme humidity 😂

She is 88 now. And I remember someone stole her jewellery from her hotel room and when they caught the thief they said where is her jewellery and he said he threw it in the Thames. He had a wicked sense of humour. I could just hear him mimicking a Chinese accent he would see the funny side of the shop below where he was born. Being a Chinese restaurant. A comic genius taken to soon.

My Mum was born in Southsea too! Somewhere in Festing Road. Most of my family are from Pompey! Especially on my Dad's side, but I've never met them unfortunately. (Apart from his Mum, who used to live in the block of flats closest to the dockyard!) I did have a really weird experience once when I was at Uni in Pompey though. I was walking down Commercial Road and there was an older lady walking in the opposite direction who looked so much like me, we did a double take and just stared at each other until we were out of view! We didn't talk to each other though and afterwards I wished I had. My dad's side of the family have really strong features so there's no mistaking you're related to them! My Mum thought it might have been a time slip. I guess if I'm ever walking down that street again as an older lady and I see a younger version of me then I'll know! 😄🤷♀️

I used to live not far from where he did, he used to live in Highgate, there is a blue plaque on the wall of the cottage.
Was that Southsea Common, Paul? Sellers was incredibly talented. He guest-starred in an episode of "Sykes", appearing with Eric Sykes and Hattie Jacques. The Goons reunited for a one-off show in the early 70's which was televised and is on TH-cam. It's very sad that there were "legal problems" concerning his will. His widow Lynne Frederick died young as well. Choosing "In the Mood" for his funeral because Milligan and Secombe hated it is hilarious.
