Hi Paul, I know it looks a little sad not having a headstone for Roy, but it’s taken me this long to get just the right wording - we’ll it is going to be there for a very long time. The process of getting a headstone has now started. I’m delighted you thought Roy was one of the good guys, he certainly was very special. If you’re interested we are doing a fundraiser at the Sondheim Theatre in London on May 14th at 5pm, The Roy Huddlines with Chris Emmett, Nichola McAuliffe, Alison Steadman and Jon Culshaw. The money is going towards a statue of Roy. Sorry about Hilda barking at you!

      Hi Debbie,
Thank you so much for getting in touch. It was a real honour for me to come and pay my respects to Roy. I completely understand regarding the headstone, I hope you don’t think I thought any different. He was such a wonderful man on the tv but obviously so much more to you and your family. What a beautiful place for Roy to be buried. Oh don’t worry about Hilda, I love dogs and was having some fun for the camera. ( My Nan was called Hilda) If I can get there that would be an honour, and would be lovely to meet you. So pleased you got to see the video and I hope I did him proud, sorry about the wind blocking some of the Audio.
      Kind Regards Paul. X

Hi Paul, I remember Roy Hudd very well. A great comedian, and actor. His take on of Flanagan + Allen, etc, wearing the big baggy coat 😃 His final resting place is in a beautifull setting, but how sad that he only has a wooden cross to mark his grave? Surely he deserves a headstone? His friends from his theatrical background could surely arrange for him to get one? RIP Roy, you brought a lot of laughter into our lives. 🙏🏼

@Jack Warner Hi Jack, thanks for your reply. I know it’s approx 1 year after burial that they recommend or allow you to erect a headstone. However Roy has been gone approx 3 years now! I just thought someone of his stature would’ve had a headstone by now. Maybe it’s a family decision? Thanks for your msg.

Thanks for another good video, Paul 👍 It's good to know where Roy is resting and it would be nice to see a gravestone. Roy was a genuinely nice bloke and a multitalented performer. He exemplified nostalgia and the Music Hall (for me and for many others), and he was also a serviceman. Roy could do comedy, drama, musicals, and he loved the theatre. He seemed to do it all with ease. Roy played Bud Flanagan in the BBC drama We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story, about the creation of the legendary TV sitcom. He was on for just a couple of minutes but his turn had our house in tears. Worth a look. Cheers Paul and all the best.

Hi Paul, Welcome to Suffolk. Sorry about the wind! Crowfield church is a lovely place, and unusual in its design. Roy Hudd was an actor/entertainer who seemed to have a foot in the past and a foot in the present. He donated his archive of music hall artefacts to the local further education college.

Roy Hudd almost single handedly kept the stars from yesteryear Music Hall fame alive...one of the last true Variety acts ...you was guaranteed to be entertaind when he turnd up...thankfully he left a legacy of work for us to enjoy ( thanks Roy ) ime presuming here. But being as he was buried in a quaint little church yard in Suffolk.. did he live in that village?...surprising isn't it? In his working life he advertised the East end of London with such enthusiasm ..yet. here he was living in Suffolk. In a reclusive . Secluded area. ..Thanx Roy...Thankyou Paul . Another amazing revelation. And thankfully. The barking dog never ate you lol...looking forward to the next one ..( I love these )

A truly magnificent talent and a gent in the true sense of the word. This man was naturally gifted as a entertainer as well as being fabulous as a music hall historian. If there's a theatre up in heaven, Roy will be performing in it. Farewell Mr Hudd, we still miss you dearly ❤ 😊

Thanks Paul, lovely insight into Roy Hudd's career, he was a great historian of the music halls and theatres of the past, very Knowledgeable and a Very Lovely guy, it's a shame that there isn't anybody else around that can tell the stories of the entertainment history and look back at the past like Roy did, the world is a sadder place without him around, knowing how loved and respected he was it sad that he hasn't got a better headstone, surely the entertainment world should get a headstone and give him the respect he deserves. RIP Roy 🙏

Thank you again Paul, what a beautiful place to be laid to rest.. I loved Roy Hudd and listened to the Hudd lines on the radio every week. He was a very clever and funny man unlike many today who just try to be funny by being outrageous. He was also a very good actor. I really do prefer radio comedy, the Hudd Lines, the Navy Lark and many others. I can still remember the Billy Cotton Band-show every Sunday lunchtime long before we had a television ! Cheers 👍

Thankyou for taking my comments on board that i posted on your David Frost video. Why people are buried in a certain parts of the country does add colour to their story. The reason being is that many come from a world of celebrity or science both nationally and internationally. Many are in films, the theatre or in tv. Forever in your homes or the public eye via the tv. Yet......they find a small, unassuming, quiet part of the world to hang their hat. No grand headstone them. Roy's grave is a classic example that if you didn't know he was there you are just as likely to walk past him. It is for this reason Paul that i watch your channel.

Hi Paul. So pleased I found your programme on youtube and love all the info you give us at the beginning of the video. Funnily enough, I was watching Classic Coronation St the other day and Roy was starring in it as Archie Shuttleworth, a funeral director... Very apt! He certainly was a fine entertainer and actor, God bless him 🌹
P.S. When you pulled the bell rope, I was willing it to ring 😂.
Thank you again for your videos, I've learned a lot. 👍

Great Roy Hudd video. Rhys Loram's dad was a brilliant speedway rider and was once world champion. I can remember when Rhys sadly lost his life.

A lovely guy. Met him when he was appearing at Gt Yarmouth in the late 60's and still got his autograph plus a little doodle he did for me. Had a wealth of funny stories from the past and always brings a smile to my face when I think about him

Paul, used to love Roy Hudd. Surprised it is such an understated grave, but a beautiful setting. A good grave to visit Paul would be Murray Walker if he has one.

There was something special about this fella that I warmed to as a child, maybe his cheery nature. His last acting part I saw him in was an episode of Call the Midwife his character was Joe a widower with no visitors other than the nurse. It was such a sad storyline and even through that 'Joe' remained cheerful. It is sad to see that his grave is so reflective of the last role I saw him in.
