Hi Paul, I know it looks a little sad not having a headstone for Roy, but it’s taken me this long to get just the right wording - we’ll it is going to be there for a very long time. The process of getting a headstone has now started. I’m delighted you thought Roy was one of the good guys, he certainly was very special. If you’re interested we are doing a fundraiser at the Sondheim Theatre in London on May 14th at 5pm, The Roy Huddlines with Chris Emmett, Nichola McAuliffe, Alison Steadman and Jon Culshaw. The money is going towards a statue of Roy. Sorry about Hilda barking at you!

      Hi Debbie,
Thank you so much for getting in touch. It was a real honour for me to come and pay my respects to Roy. I completely understand regarding the headstone, I hope you don’t think I thought any different. He was such a wonderful man on the tv but obviously so much more to you and your family. What a beautiful place for Roy to be buried. Oh don’t worry about Hilda, I love dogs and was having some fun for the camera. ( My Nan was called Hilda) If I can get there that would be an honour, and would be lovely to meet you. So pleased you got to see the video and I hope I did him proud, sorry about the wind blocking some of the Audio.
      Kind Regards Paul. X

Hi Paul, I remember Roy Hudd very well. A great comedian, and actor. His take on of Flanagan + Allen, etc, wearing the big baggy coat 😃 His final resting place is in a beautifull setting, but how sad that he only has a wooden cross to mark his grave? Surely he deserves a headstone? His friends from his theatrical background could surely arrange for him to get one? RIP Roy, you brought a lot of laughter into our lives. 🙏🏼

@Jack Warner Hi Jack, thanks for your reply. I know it’s approx 1 year after burial that they recommend or allow you to erect a headstone. However Roy has been gone approx 3 years now! I just thought someone of his stature would’ve had a headstone by now. Maybe it’s a family decision? Thanks for your msg.

Hi Paul, Welcome to Suffolk. Sorry about the wind! Crowfield church is a lovely place, and unusual in its design. Thanks for another good video, Paul 👍 It's good to know where Roy is resting and it would be nice to see a gravestone. Roy was a genuinely nice bloke and a multitalented performer. He exemplified nostalgia and the Music Hall (for me and for many others), and he was also a serviceman. Roy could do comedy, drama, musicals, and he loved the theatre. He seemed to do it all with ease. Roy played Bud Flanagan in the BBC drama We're Doomed! The Dad's Army Story, about the creation of the legendary TV sitcom. He was on for just a couple of minutes but his turn had our house in tears. Worth a look. Cheers Paul and all the best.

But being as he was buried in a quaint little church yard in Suffolk.. did he live in that village?...surprising isn't it? In his working life he advertised the East end of London with such enthusiasm ..yet. here he was living in Suffolk. In a reclusive . Secluded area. ..Thanx Roy...Thankyou Paul . Aww...I loved Roy! I first saw him at The Princess Theatre in Torquay, on holiday (when I was 12), a summertime show also starring Audrey Jeans, one of the first female comedians, and Frankie, "Mr Moonlight", Vaughan, he was so funny, even at my tender age I appreciated his jokes and his lovely smile. In later years I used to listen avidly to his, "News Huddlines" on Radio 2 and I used to be helpless at the comedy sketches with the likes of June Whitfield and Alison Steadman. Of course, I have to mention his stint as "Archie Shuttleworth" in Corrie. Roy was a staunch campaigner for music hall and he came to our local Civic Hall in Brierley Hill West Midlands, to honour another female comedian, "Dolly Allen", who he met at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre when they were on the same bill. RIP Roy. Thank you for all the laughs...

There was something special about this fella that I warmed to as a child, maybe his cheery nature. His last acting part I saw him in was an episode of Call the Midwife his character was Joe a widower with no visitors other than the nurse. It was such a sad storyline and even through that 'Joe' remained cheerful. It is sad to see that his grave is so reflective of the last role I saw him in.

Hi Paul. Many thanks for this wonderful vlog. I was a big fan of Roy and loved his passion for the old London music halls. One particularly good piece of footage is in Sugg's London where he sings 'Champagne Charlie' with Suggs at the historic Wilton's Music Hall in Whitechapel.

Great Roy Hudd video. Rhys Loram's dad was a brilliant speedway rider and was once world champion. I can remember when Rhys sadly lost his life.

Hi Paul, great series, just read up about the church, it was started in 14th century by the Bishop of Norwich.
The Big memorial on the floor is to a local guy who was one of the first governors of the settlement Jamestown in USA x
