  • Todays famous grave I visit legendary character actor Brian Glover. He was in the classic Kes, American Werewolf in London, Alien 3 and so much more.
Described by The New York Times as a "robust character actor" who played "gruff but likable roles", he had a "string of roles playing tough guys and criminals". He once said, "You play to your strengths in this game, and my strength is as a bald-headed, rough-looking Yorkshireman". Glover was also known as the voice of the Tetley tea commercials. The Independent described him upon his death as "one of Britain's best-loved actors".

What a career! He appeared in the episode of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? called "No Hiding Place". Bob and Terry had a bet with him that they would avoid hearing the score of an England football match played that day. A former work colleague of mine was from Barnsley and Brian Glover was his English teacher; he was nothing like the character he played in Kes.

The bit in Kes with the football is such a brilliant piece on film as Brian just makes it such a believable teacher student relationship the kids must have loved filming that scene.

Ahhhhh Brian Glover was a brilliant versatile actor. Kes. American Werewolf in London. Alien 3, Porridge, Brannigan, The Sweeny, Minder and many more. Rest in peace sir and thank you for all the joy you gave me on TV when I was a kid! 🙏 And thank you Paul, I'm sorry it's late, I've only just watched this one! 👍

What a great actor. I've never forgotten a monologue that he did for Winter for Hymns of Praise in the 80s. It was unmissable, but never been able to find it - keep on looking!

Loved Brian in Gas with the late Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson, trying to tap into Brian's gas meter to nick gas and the mayhem that ensued.

His most memorable roles for me were in Kes, Porridge and Bottom. I must admit I had no idea his career was so varied; I had heard he was a wrestler, but all those other roles and the writing I had no idea. All respect to Brian.

Brian was in a episode of Minder as "Yorkie" it was the episode "The Beer Hunter 1980" . He lost his trousers or Kegs in this episode and was so funny to watch. Once someone left a spare pair of trouser by his grave.
