I have a head gasket leaking the the back left corner of the passenger side, your video is a great help whenever I decide to tackle this monster of a job.

Great 3 parts video. I will do mine soon on my 2003 xterra. Good to know we can do it without emptying the A/C. Thanks

Waiting on the parts to arrive, luckily my engine bay is a little nicer than yours!

Use the old timing belt as a belt-wrench for the cam sprocket

LoL i have seen 9 of the exact same engine fail in the exact same spot as you did.

They are known for head gasket failure but that’s the only big issue with them and they last forever.

I bought racing headers made it a lot easier

I Have headers as well, likely to use them on this build.

Try using a true rust penetrating fluid like the Blaster Brand, WD 40 is okay as a gun lube or water repellent in your distributor but useless as a rusty bolt penetrant

PB Blaster is my favorite, If you see me using anything else its because im out.

Manual says last torque step is 60 to 65 degrees which seems pretty low for these bolts....can u please confirm if that's correct or I'm missing something?

Pretty close to what I’m seeing.
Head tightening procedure and torque specs:
      Step 1: 39 Nm; 4.0 kg·m; 29 ft·lb
      Step 2: 123 Nm; 12.5 kg·m; 90 ft·lb
Step 3: Loosen all bolts completely
      Step 4: 34-44 kg·m; 3.5-4.5 kg·m; 25-33 ft·lb
      Step 5: Turn all bolts 65-70° or to 123 Nm; 12.5 kg·m; 90 ft·lb

I guess I'm screwed since I already put everything back...

My 02 Nissan frontier supercharged uses coolant . No leaks . An smokes blue. For sure oil. Can a failed head gasket cause oil to get in the cylinder an lose coolant? Oil looks normal.

You can leak oil and or coolant into the cylinders. Sorry to hear that.

    Where’s part 4?!

It’s taken me a while, I had two tornados come across my property and destroy 1/2 everything I own. The xterra made it, not unharmed. My part’s xterra was flattened like a pancake. Been trying to get things back somewhat normal so I can start filming again.

Howdy. I have a new-to-me 1998 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4, automatic, 3.3L VG33E 4th VIN digit "A" motor, made 10/1997. It has one or more bad piston wrist pins, and a confirmed bad crankshaft due to excessive bearing failures from oil loss. Does anyone know if the pistons in a 1996-2004 Pathfinders, QX4, Frontier, or Xterras can be removed and reinstalled through the bottom of the motor (oil pan), with the motor still installed? I also have a bad crank so I have to have it removed and machined too. The rest of the motor is clean, no oil burning, and low miles (165,000). I hate to swap it for an unknown possible problem motor if I can do it this way instead.
I haven't been able to find anyone online who has accomplished this, but maybe it's not possible due to clearance or whatever. Do ya know, or take a guess if ya been under one like this? Thanks much!

If you have to replace the crank as well it’s not worth it. Pull the engine. Pistons are possible but would be a pain.

When will we get the rebuild video?

    • @xlr8auto1
      @xlr8auto1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’m working on it now. Also I have a couple other projects going on at the same time, plus video editing but hoping to have the next video out in 2 weeks. I have a rebuild video up on a different xterra, check that one out meanwhile. Thank you for watching!

Sweet! I got a 2002 Frontier that I may have to pull the heads for. I at least have a timing belt problem. I think I didn't torq down the tensioner enough when I did it the first time. I did the repair in fairbanks last winter when my water pump gasket failed. The water pump was fine. Leaked out the whole bottom of the gasket.
I probably bent a valve when the engine stopped. But in the meantime I'm gonna yank the cover off again, confirm the engine is in time, and compression test each cylinder before I go that far. I am hopeful I got lucky. Doubt it tho.
And I had to use 3 different sets of those 8mm crank pulley bolts, and had to re tap the threads once. I got her off in the end, and used a unholy amount of antisieze on reinstall.
