Great video. The smoke test is great. I suspect I have a cracked block, so I was thinking of smoking and pressurizing an empty cooling system and see if smoke shows up from any of the cylinders.
@BarboursAutoHelp Subbed! So now I need to get my civic in the garage for a proper recheck, but it's steaming like a steamengine! I would hate to get clouds of steam in my neighbors backyard! I highly suspect warped head, and I have a straight edge and feeler ready. I appreciate this video because it gives regular non pros a starting place to look at when repairing this issue instead of blindly replacing the head gasket and crossing fingers. Not checking if block and head were straight was a bad decision on my part. And I should have done leak down test even before touching. Background is 2006 civic with the infamous cracked engine block defect. I replaced the cracked block with newer revised r18 block from 2012 civic. Tons of work. And was driving it daily for almost a year, then went on a business trip. Weather was freezing and car sat for a week. I started driving it when I came back, then that's when coolant started getting inside combustion chambers causing misfire and burning coolant out of tailpipe. Until I fix this, I have my 2001 corolla as a daily. That's my story!
I had the oil tested, and it shows no water or antifreeze in the oil. But it has high sodium. If I check the gases in the radiator even though I don’t see any bubbles if I can find a very small leak and if this is a very reliable test ?
@@BarboursAutoHelp Now if I could get you to change the valve cover gaskets on my 02 Suzuki XL7 2.7 liter I'd be happy,I love this vehicle 4 door 4x4,my only complaint is the rpm these motors turn,if I'm not mistaken it has like 5.13 gears in it,if I'm on interstate it's runs about 3700 rpm,and what's bad is cold starts,as soon as you start it will rev up to about 2500 and you can hear everything in it rattle, then about 30 sec it will idle down and run quiet!!
I took the boat out for a ride and wen I gave it gas the RPMs went to 2500 the engine bog down, I try it again and it did the same thing it went down to 1500 RPM. I m did the blue liquid test and it came out blue, so I guess the head gasket are fine but it did over heat at one point so I m going to try the leak down test next week and see what happens.

I found some yellow residue in my radiator hose. Looks like pollen or mustard. Felt like it had some small runbery bits in it. Any idea what this could be? Ive been told head gasket, been told old corrosive coolant or mixed coolant, or could be some stop leak
Hi I change my radiator, radiator hoses, water pump, thermostat, and thermostat housing but my car keeps overheading you think my head gasket is blown can you plz shed some light on my situation
@@BarboursAutoHelp Thank you. I figured as much. I have a 2010 VW Routan Van (Actually a Chrysler) which has smoke coming out of the tailpipe and I was trying to decide if it would just be more expedient to put another engine in it.
Continua...

This is what happens when you keep driving the car AFTER this issue first began..hydro city.. MAINTAINE YOUR CAR REGULARLY. Good job Keith.
Thanks, John!

Great video and diagnostics. I learned a lot about how to check for warped head and cracked head.
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely amazing video. I suspect I have a blown head...this video is superb in helping me diagnose the problem. THANK YOU!!!
This guy really knows his stuff!
This is amazing! It points me in the right direction. I'm definitely need a leak down tester. I wish I watched this before putting my head back on.
Glad it was helpful! Hit that sub button!

@@corollayanki Hey thanks for sharing. I hope you get it back up and rolling. Good luck to you!
This video is fantastic! We’re working on the same engine. Very helpful. Thank you
Awesome. Good luck to you!
Before you take the head off you can put air pressure in the cylinder with the valves closed and hear air coming out but this is a good test also.
Very very well done indeed Keith, excellent detective work! You know your stuff my friend I love motors they are a symphony of awesomeness lol
Thanks.
Excellent video, thank you for posting this.
Thank you too!
Great video, really informative
How much does a repair like this usually cost? Just took my 2014 Jeep Rubicon into the shop, just hope I’m not getting taken advantage of.
I’d call a couple of shops near you and get some quotes. That would be the more accurate way to get an idea. Prices vary around the world.
Shop around if your vehicle is still drivable. Getting diagnostic and estimate is free most of cases
Great video brother. What would have to be done to get those valves better?
May be able to lap them. If not the seats would have to be redone at a machine shop and perhaps new valves installed.

Very educational
So how much did they pay to realize they wanted to give up on the car? That’s alotta work you did.
They didn’t pay anything. It was a friend.
Excellent video Brother, very well explained!Keep up the great work, new Subscriber!!!
Oops I was already Subscribed lol
Hey thanks a bunch! Glad to have you!

Is the radiator fan working?
So, you can't really tell if it is the "head gasket", "cylinder head" or "cracked block"or some other issue until you pull the engine apart?
You can get an idea without taking apart. But to know 100 everything that’s wrong, yes you have to take apart.
