I definitely wanna go triple monitors sometime. Right now, I'm on a 32 inch curved monitor. It's actually really nice and good enough to last me awhile! Great vid BTW!
I went with 32'' 2K triple (powered by 4080) and get decent FPS in most racing games. I also have meta quest 3 VR headset, but find it too tiring for use when used for more than an hour straight. Also, some games like forza series doesn't support VR. But may i say that Dirt Rally 2 in VR feels amazing
Went from console to pc, got myself quest 3 and I never looked back. It's so immersive, another pro for VR is that if you switch from formula to gt car you don't need another wheel rim (best saving money method) it just tricks your brain and feels amazing. I have small room so I use playseat trophy with logitech g pro, splashed around 1.5k e on pc to get the most out of my vr. Anyways great video :)
what are your specs? I also think about going vr as i dont want to use up all the space in my room AND POCKET😭😭😂 Can you also run Max settings with VR on mang games? im thinking about getting one and then just switching between my tv whenever i feel like it.
@@karei7375 pc specs are rtx 3090 and ryzen 7 5800 x3d. I tried ac but I haven't used a lot of mods so graphics were not that good, haven't had time to optimize it too. Can't tell you much except that iracing is running smooth with max graphics and 90fps.
@@karei7375I take the liberty of answering you regarding maxing out the settings. VR is extremely resource intensive. There is no PC on the market today that can handle maxed out graphics settings. I have a 4080 Super OC and have to limit myself to 72 Hz and no super sampling if I want to be able to race with medium settings in rain/night conditions with a full 30 car grid. Daytime in fine weather I got ~50% head room with the same settings. You could probably use 3080 with good results if you're limit yourself to daytime racing and a smaller grid. I have raced in VR with 1070, 1080ti, 3080 and 4080 Super OC.
@@karei7375 I was actually quite happy with the 1080ti. As long as I raced during daytime in good weather it worked quite well. If you planning to play AMS2 remember to google "ams2 sharpening tweak" and follow the guides.
IMO. -16:9 budget starting point -21:9 not really any point unless it's for your main gaming computer that also gets sim racing time -32:9 when space is too limited for triples -Triple Monitor when space is not limited -VR most realistic of all but loses ability to reliably use buttons on wheel as you can't see them. And can be very cumbersome or uncomfortable.
There's a point to note about ultra wide is that there will be a lot of perspective distortion on the edges.. with 3 screens, you can specify in certain games to compensate for this in their rendering, iRacing for example, not sure about other games.
I went with triples 5 years ago and I do love them, but my PC is old and I can't run the newer games graphics very well. I am considering buying a single ultrawide curved screen that my PC will run and my PS5 will run.
I'm currently considering switching from my 16:9 1440p144hz TN panel to either a 21:9 1440p IPS/VA or OLED monitor (short or long term option, could write them off as work expense as well) or a Quest 3 (no write off and "only" for games). Maybe there will be some great deals for BF, but this video helps narrowing down some options.
I've been using VR for sim racing for about 4 years now, ever since the Reverb G2 released and now I've upgraded to the Pimax Crystal. On the surface it might seem like an expensive addition to the setup, but as you touched on in the video, a super ultra wide or triple screen setup is also far from cheap. I personally think VR is the most logical as it also opens the door for regular VR games in addition to the extra immersion while racing. They also don't have to be as expensive as the Valve Index or Pimax headsets. The Quest 2 can he had for super cheap on the used market, and the Quest 3 will also give you incredible bang for the buck, especially if bought used. For me, there really only is one way to race, and that's in VR
@@francistaylor1822 Hi! I'm not super sure to perfectly honest. Hadn't actually used my G2 for probably 4 months before I sold it and bought the Crystal, so it's difficult to compare the two. I can however compare it to the Quest 3 as I bought one of those at the same time as the Crystal. Q3 is very good for the money, but the Crystal really is a step up in visual quality. As the name suggests, the image is crystal clear. It honestly feels like looking through a window sometimes. There wasn't much of a screendoor on the G2 if I remember correctly, but I don't see ANY at all on the Crystal. Some have complained about chromatic aberration, but I don't really find it any worse than any other modern headset. Maybe some notice it more due to the extra clarify? Either way, I bought both the Q3 and Crystal with the intention of selling one. I was hoping the Quest was good enough that it would be the one I kept, but I'm just in love with both the clarity and the colors on the Crystal. Ultimately ended up keeping both, much to my wallets dismay. I'd still say it's a decent upgrade and a spiritual successor to the G2. And knowing what I know now, I'd still buy the Crystal.
If you're going to comment so heavily on how hard VR is to get up and running you may want to make sure you have yours setup correctly. Making it sound like it's annoying to setup is untrue. When my pc starts WMR and SteamVR start automatically, when I pick up my headset or start the game the view is auto centered (calibrated) and basically all games have a binding so you can recenter the view with one button. So pressing one button isn't exactly a "hassle".
I got creative and (already) had 2 gas and 1 regular monitor arm mounts and saved 700$+ on a monitor stand. It can work perfectly if you have the places to mount them all properly to allow all monitors to line up properly. I also play in VR as well ;)

I went from a 24" 60hz monitor to 144hz 34" curved ultrawide and my overall awareness of space increased sooooo much. Helped me get completely dialed in the game. But then I tried triples and now my setup feels lame.
Have you taken a look at the Bigscreen Beyond yet? It doesnt have the same FOV as Pimax, not even close, but what it does have is a lack of weight and it is practically the size of goggles. Much more comfortable for a long racing session than wearing a brick across the front of your face.
While practically correct in saying consoles only support single monitor cos current gen does, you technically can use multi monitor setups with consoles. If you had 3 ps3 and 3 copies of GT5 you could link em up together and play triple monitor back in the day

@OCRacing the effort it takes to climb in the cockpit, get the goggles on and setup, sim booted, headphones on... it gets a little claustrophobic and a real pain when I need to pee, lol
i have tried both vr and triple monitor and vr is more immersive and i have being using it in iracing but when i start a race by the first 10-15 minutes is everything good but after 20 minutes i start to have headaches and start to sweat all over my quest 2 so i would use vr for drifting or rally but for competitive racing triple screen i think is the best choice.
I tried vr last year albeit on a meta quest 2 in AC and it was very cool, but it was too much of a gimmick for me. The quality was too bad for it to be immersive, it was a huge hassle everytime I wanted to use it, and it was incredibly glitchy. Along with that it had the obvious downsides of having a heavy object on your face that OCRacing talked about. I went back to single 24" screen and have stuck with it. I'd love to go triples but man the monitor stand for triples is the same if not more than one of the monitors itself so it rubs me wrong. :/
VR is in fact the best way, the problem is that the hardware for VR is very bad, or very expensive, if you can acquire a big screen vr it would be WITHOUT A DOUBT the way to go for

I just picked up a 32” Samsung G8 but feeling a bit buyers remorse I want to buy the best I can buy so I don’t have to upgrade later. I have a small dedicated race sim rig and was looking for the best single monitor setup. Is there a better monitor I have a lot of windows and don’t like the glare?
@@OCRacingWhy is that? I think double 34inch uwqhd would be great if there wasnt a thick border down the middle. That would be something like 42:9 which is greater than 32:9 but smaller than 48:9 i think it would be great.
If it’s a notably big difference between what you see in VR and feel in real life, it’s either you’re VR isn’t perfectly calibrated in-game or your wheel is too big or small or usually a bit of both
if you somehow get hand tracking working, like with a Leapmotion 2 for instance, you can see what the size of your sim wheel is like compared to cars in-game. Most round rims are gonna be smaller than the wheel in-game, although there are cars where it can get close to your sim depending on how big your wheel is. If you're talking steering angle, then you should max out the angle in-game and match it in your wheel's firmware. If your wheel isn't a Direct Drive wheel, it will most likely almost always have that disconnect with cars that have more steering angle, sadly.

With triples you can go for eye candy like OLED and HDR. I like 32" triples for racing, VR with a motion platform for flying.
I play VR and triples 50/50... Setup is not a hassle if you know what you're doing.

I run an MSI mag401 21:9 40 inch. It was relatively cheap, 155hz and I'm fine with 1440p

With VR how do you deal with the discontinuity between your physical steering wheel and the wheel as shown in VR?
