Another tip that I don't see mentioned often: As the pre-upgraded stuff is gone once a CMDR buys it, the best hunting grounds is where there aren't a lot of CMDR's. This means that Planetary Ports often have upgraded stuff just sitting there, as not a lot of people go through the trouble of making landfall with a planet, but rather with a starport in orbit. Almost all of my pre-upgraded stuff comes from Planetary Ports, as no one really uses them lol
Apex is great not to have to do the landing everytime. It cost you peanuts to go check everything. but yes, lot of bases and stations are not visited for months despite the system is crowdy. so to go check....

Level 3 Manticore Shotgun, 2.5m Cr, Mav Suit 2 w/extended pack, 2.5m Cr, Artimis Suit 2 750k. Bought all 3. :] Life is good. Just back from 9 mo in The Black so all new to this mart of ED. :]
It would be nice if you had the option to pay the bartender for helpful news like if there was a station in 20ly that had some rare kit for sale or had good tips for local markets where the buy sell prices were particularly good.. or talked about other local news like conflicts, or states like outbreaks or famine where a trader might make a good profit. Personally I'd also love to see these rare kit items also come with a non-standard paint scheme as well.
I had heard about this right when Odyssey launched, and I spent several game sessions just Apexing around to every surface port I could, and I was able to get all my weapons and suits to grade 3 right away, with a couple of useful engineer mods as well. Since I don't like mindless grinding, starting at grade 3 has allowed me to just play the game and continue to upgrade from there. I now have 2 grade 5 suits and 3 grade 5 weapons, with most of my most-desired mods (night vision, more battery, audio masking and noise suppression, etc). I still see good stuff for sale all the time, but no longer need it. I do post on the mega thread sometimes if I find a juicy item.
Apex speeded up the process for sure. Didn't take long to get all suits and weapons at G3 but the accompanying mods are much harder to come by. Still, it definitely boosts you into a better suit for raiding so you can upgrade. Artemis with stowed reload? I'm not so good I need to make things harder just yet.
My suits are all grade three and weapons grade 2. So I need to hunt for better guns... but, even my current setup allows me to enjoy the FPS content. I have recently fallen in love with the covert stuff... its surprisingly fun, walking through the base with ill intent and the NPCs still being friendly and asking if they can help... "yes, please point me to where your power station is..."
found a grade 3 artemis suit with NVG's the first few days I started playing, I am sooooo glad i got that as I've never seen anything as good since then and I'm nowhere near levelled with 99% of engineers yet
When experienced people are unaware of a gameplay feature, this speaks volumes about the game design or publisher. When aforementioned game feature makes the game itself 'immediately more accessible' it's like adding insult to injury. Just my opinion, of course, and yes I am still playing ED...just...none of the Odyssey content even though I have Odyssey.
yes, it is good that they randomly spawn at pioneer supplies, but in no way does it add to good game experience. Far better would be to randomly spawn gear / weapons on bases and when taking out NPCs or settlement looting. Gear drop should be a reward for gaming experience, not a roulette wheel when you land at a station.
I found a grade 3 dominator suit engineered with extra battery life, I was just getting ready for a good ruck on a surface site so I couldn't have been any happier, amazing timing.
Oh yeah! On 2nd day that premium gear was available, I lucked out and found a grade 3 Maverick suit with night vision built in, and it's been invaluable. I've seen a lot of upgrades, and always check when I'm at a station, but I've never seen anything for sale higher than grade 3.
It's also worth noting that stations where upgraded/pre-engineered gear is found are worth noting as I have found many if not most of them respawn gear at the next weekly tick. Appreciate you guys pointing this out as many believe that they have to grind all the way to G5 the hard way

When I stop at any station, I check out Pioneer and post on the thread if I find something I interesting. Snipers are the worst...they shadow the thread, buy the item and don't tell anyone. If you buy it, post that you did so other commanders aren't wasting their time.
Doesn't it appear in solo mode? I can understand something being taken by other players in open play mode, but if you see it spawn there in open, won't it mean that it has spawned in solo? What if someone finds a good dropped suit/weapon in solo mode, can't everyone go there and get it if they too log into solo mode? For example, I have found a G2 Maverick suit in solo mode, and just bought it without thinking too much about it, simply because I had just come across a G2 suit that was better than the G1 I had just bought, so I just bought it and sold the G1.
I went to a non-specific system in the bubble, in Alliance territory, and saw a grade 2 Maverick suit. So I just bought it. Can't remember the price, but it was nothing expensive. I had been playing Odyssey for 2 days when this happened and it was my second stop at the equipment shop. Not bad eh? :D
Even as late as a Wednesday, there are still lots of items available, especially in the less travelled places. G3 items often with one or two good modifications. The official Frontier forum is not I believe the only place where information is shared about found items. Best item found, undoubtedly a Maverick suit with night vision. Worst, found but not bought, a Karma L-6 with noise suppression and longer range.
My best find was Artemis suit with Night Vision. By the way i suggest one Thursday morning, taking Apex Taxis to Surface Starports (the large ones which look like circles abd towers). You can get on with other things while the taxi is flying around and other commanders don't often go down to the surface looking for gear. If you find a system with 5 or so surface ports is be really surprised if you didn't find something. Shhh don't tell too many people though ;)
I managed to pick up a G3 Dominator with quieter footsteps and increased jump not long after ED:O launched, cost me like 22m I think but I also have a G3 Maverick and a G3 Artemis with extra backpack. G3 plasma pistol upgraded to G4, G3 laser rifle, G3 Kinetic rifle. Cost me a small fortune but well worth it especially the Dominator, that was a find and a half.
Found a bunch of pre-upgraded gear just on my own. A few highlights were a Dominator with faster shield regen, an Artemis with increased sprint duration, and another Artemis with improved jump assist (which is a huge difference).
I've found several already! I wouldn't have any upgraded suits without doing this... Just haven't had the time to gather the materials. Weapons, I've found a few tier 2 and 3 available and snagged them. Found a tier 2 Manticore Plasma rifle. Not the executioner, the other one. Picked it up anyway! Doesn't hurt to have a full armory cabinet on the ship. 😀. They *are* expensive, especially for new players. Several million credits. You can have a fully A-module uprated Cobra III for the kind of money you'll spend on *one* upgraded suit or weapon.
Two favs thus far for me have been a grade 3 Mav with reduced tool batt cap and then a grade 2 Arty with night vision. Mav is now a 5 and theArty is a grade 4.

Good. That kind of cheating mentality has no place in this society. It's like those Chinese families who get out of the car on foot and go stand in a parking bay while the driver goes looking for one. I hate those types of people, and I'm glad they can't do that kind of thing in Elite. If you don't need the upgrade, but I do and I'm there, you shouldn't be able to hog it until a friend of yours logs on to the game. I got there first with all the entitlement to buy that, your friend didn't. So he needs to be playing the game fairly without you cheating by hogging an item that you don't need AND aren't going to buy.
Everything you need to upgrade your ship, upgrade your engineers, upgrade everything.. should be by grinding hard, or buying them! we should be able to buy the stuff we need instead of searching it in the galaxie. I really dont like the engineers grind, but we all need the engineers updates on our ship.. those upgrade should be buyable. Even at high price. i'll prefer mining asteroid for millions $$$ instead of searching the materials i need to unlock the upgrade for engineers. Hope frontier will think about it.

I did the reduced battery use mod myself (on a g3 arty I found)... hooboy, what a difference. Instead of doing two species on one charge, I can do four and change (when I get lucky and find 4+ within bunnyhop range).
Popular stations will be cleaned out instantly. As for an upgraded explorer's suit: so you can explore longer (better battery usage is really really nice). Also, iirc, g3 artemis is better than g2 dominator.
Spent around 50 hours hopping random starports at the edge of the bubble on a Friday. Total = (one) Mav Lvl 2 w/1 pre engineered + (one) lvl 2 plasma pistol with no eng. Result = I never logged in again.
Maybe they didn't do all 50hrs on the same Friday? Just a thought. They might have been using their Friday play session to hunt gear for weeks to rack up those 50 hours
A little late feedback, but I thought it might help some folks. I don't really care for the ground combat or sneaking into places to steal things. But, I do like mining and exploring, and I wanted to upgrade my artemis suit. But the only way I could see to do that was steal things and kill folks to get the needed materials. When I saw this vid, I thought, well, why not give it a try. I had a bunch of monazite and musgravite and other things to sell. I always look on Inara for the best offered price and the most recent posted time as well as enough demand quantity. I found one starport that had just posted a decent price and demand within the last 10 minutes and trundled off in my FC to it. I sold my load and then took a walk into the station and guess what? A grade 3 Artemis suit was for sale. Snapped it up and thought, I wonder what else is in this system, which had two other starports. Hit them on the way back to the FC to reload, and got a grade 3 maverick suit, and an engineered grade 3 grenade launcher. Sold all my musgravite and then repeated the process for the monazite. Scored a grade 3 dominator suit, a grade 3 plasma rifle and a grade 3 laser rifle. I figured eventually I am going to have to kill folks and steal things, so I might as well get better suits and weapons to do it, while I can. All in all, I visited 7 ports in two systems. I think, long story to get to the point, that part of the reason these ports were set up to offer good prices on minerals was also because the systems had these suits and weapons. If you like to mine, try this out.
I don't like wanton killing either, especially just to upgrade gear and unlock engineers (no problem taking out criminal settlements, though). However, I've found that, for the most part, there's no need: restore missions can get you some things (but very spotty), and you can always go around looking for disabled settlements, restore their power, loot, retrieve power regulator (does require having one in the first place, but those can be had via mission rewards), or as a bonus to taking out criminal settlements.
Yeah, it's kinda dumb. One suit with two weapon slots, a sidearm slot, and a tool slot would have been perfect. It would have dramatically reduced the required amount of grinding though, so here we are.

Inara started populating this list too. It seems that most spawns are static and reappear on server tick.

Literally the only reason I log into Odyssey from Horizon when I land at a station to check Pioneer stores then straight back to Horizon

It's definitely not; that's why I haven't played since May with over 1400 hours in game.
it is if you have the right weapons. if only somebody made a guide on how to get them...

At no point did I say it was new. There are people who don't know about it however or don't know about the share forum thread.
