Bought a new S240 mower recently, and viewed many of your how to do videos. How are doing a great job teaching newbie’s like me to John Deere and it’s products. Just wanted to thank you, you are doing a great service to help us unprofessionals.
Mine does not fit at all. Bought it for my new s120 and this exact model # mulch cover and it’s almost like it’s too small. The only way it fits is if I don’t engage that notch on the mulch cover but then the shute basically sits on top of it awkwardly. I tried doing it with removing the shute and there is almost an inch gap at the bottom of the mulch cover as it doesn’t sit inside the grooves at all. Any ideas why?
Ditto! This is JUNK! Even he doesn't put the top flap down at the end....because is now doesn't go down with this part installed. Packing it back up and taking it back to Home Depot.
If you ever heard the saying -you get what you pay for- it is this. Works fairly well. As some state, it is best NOT to cut anything too high-chokes up. Works very well on leaves though. For about $35-not bad.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I have a s220 JD and mulch plug seems as though it’s to small. Not sure on how to remove metal plate underneath plastic shoot cover. In your video I was hoping that clip was not edited out. Am only received my mower three weeks ago from a JD dealer here in Snellville GA. Am a newbie 😂 as well. Thanks for your input and anyone who may have knowledge on how I can go about this small issue.
I have trouble getting the metal shield up out of the way and once I got it up I cant get it down. Some guy did a very useless vid but I couldnt tell what or how he did it. We need a good video showing how to.
I have the S100 and this mulch kit is very difficult to install. I followed the video (great video btw!) and the rear notch does not seem to fit all the way and is stuck. After about half an hour of struggling with it I was able to get it halfway in and I started to mow the yard and my mower would turn off because the blades were being obstructed in their range of motion. Any tips?
Sometimes you have to file down the plastic on the cover to make it fit better. I know this is a pain but it happens sometimes on these covers. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
No ,there is not. I just bought my s240 48 it doesn't have this feature. You have to buy the whole mulching kit to get this. I called my JD dealership and to purchase it and install it will cost $400.00 😮
All of the 100 series are basically the same. Over the years John Deere will do minor upgrades, mainly cosmetic, to this series of mowers and then give them a new letter in the front. The L would be the older series, then the D, then E, and now they are S series mowers.
I see lots of comments about this cover not staying on. I change back and forth between mulching and side discharge, so the under deck kit is too much work. They say the force of the grass hitting the cover pushes it off at the rear. I plan on mulching until fall, then installing the high lift blades for bagging leaves. And is the green deck just the old Edge deck painted green?

I had to use a heat gun on mine, the upper plastic was curled so it wouldn't let it sit down in the groove. I straightened it back out and it fits well now. Easy install otherwise.
@@247parts it's just a normal high low heat gun I got it at home depot, I think it's a black and Decker which is really old. I normally use it for heat shrink because it's not an open flame and won't melt the plastic unless you hold it there to long.
LOL. I should have watched this video BEFORE installing my plug. I fought and fought and fought with installation until I realized that for some odd reason, my plug arrived from the factory with the clips reversed when assembled. I'd have known that if I had watched this first. Someone at the JD plant had an off day - or decided to have some fun with the purchaser. Has anyone else here had this happen?
@@247parts I guess it's bound to happen once in awhile. Yeah... Not a great design. Scratched the crap out of my new yellow deck and the rivet pulled through completely on the mulch plug. I'll have to rig up a bolt and washer and nut type of replacement.
I love my JD but the multch cover is an aweful design. I made a plate that goes over the studs for the discharge shoot that holds the multch cover down. Those straps they use will crack and break after a few yrs.

I'm glad it was helpful and thanks for watching!
Will it fit s220
You explained it perfectly, thank you!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Thank you sir…..l appreciate it 🙏🏾
No problem and thanks for watching!
I had to use a heat gun on mine, the upper plastic was curled so it wouldn't let it sit down in the groove. I straightened it back out and it fits well now. Easy install otherwise.
Nice work! I will have to remember this trick next time i have a stubborn plastic piece. What kind of heat gun was it?
@@247parts it's just a normal high low heat gun I got it at home depot, I think it's a black and Decker which is really old. I normally use it for heat shrink because it's not an open flame and won't melt the plastic unless you hold it there to long.
there are two holes in the front . How about showing WHICH hole to use,,,
Does this fit the S240?
No this will only be for the Edge decks that come on the 100 series mowers. Thanks for watching!
@@247parts Is there similar Mulch cover or Plug available for S240?
Can you leave the shoe off? I can’t get it through my gate Just got the S100 today won’t fit due to the Black Blade Cover it’s says do not remove??
Yes, as long as your mulch cover is mounted securely. Thanks for watching!
This is interesting. I will be following this.
@@247parts I guess it's bound to happen once in awhile. OR: From the condition of the box it came in (re-taped and badly distorted from handling) it's possible it was a return item from another customer, I suppose. I shouldn't be so quick to blame JD. Regardless, it's working fine and I'm happy with it. I paired it with some Copperhead mulching blades which appear to be doing a good job.
Thanks
This is not intuitive on the S140 48inch mulch deck... there are no match holes as you demonstrated on the 42inch deck. Very confusing.
Yeah... Not a great design. Scratched the crap out of my new yellow deck and the rivet pulled through completely on the mulch plug. I'll have to rig up a bolt and washer and nut type of replacement.
I do agree with you that the design needs some upgrading.
I love my JD but the multch cover is an aweful design. I made a plate that goes over the studs for the discharge shoot that holds the multch cover down. Those straps they use will crack and break after a few yrs.
That sounds like it would be pretty legit!
my goodness... if you read the reviews for this item, holy heck, people make it sound like it's IMPOSSIBLE to install. When I brought up your video, I was expecting WAY worse. What is wrong with people where they can't handle something as BASIC as this? wow wow wow.
Crypt is that you?
Haha nope, just Brent! Thanks for watching!
That is a cover, not a plug
Why does every video on this skip over how the metal plate gets out of the way because the metal plate won't get out of the way. Literally just edited past it
Ok. I see. It stays on. Sorry I thought the metal flap was removed. But both flaps are up.
No worries!
Very cool of you to not include how to operate the flap that's under the chute, that is required to be up in order to install the cover. You literally cut right over that part.
My apologies! You just have to pull out and up to get it to flip up out of the way.

@stuart So you knew what to do and still made it a point to be an ass about it?
Thanks for explaining. Trying to move the inner shoot was the only reason I clicked on this.
Dude skipped the only reason I needed this video lol
Not that easy. Plastic is all warped. Had to get all disfigured to get it installed.
Darn, I hate to hear this, but thanks for watching!
A good John deere lawn and garden tractor is one that's been thrown away they are Trash 🗑
I'm all about hearing others opinions. What brand do you prefer?
You need to learn how to get to the point. You go off on way too many tangents. Just put them damn thing on.
Thanks for the feedback.
@@247parts I appreciate you making the video.
How about to showing the clips. Your hand was covering it.
Do you have to have mulching blades to use the mulch cover?
Would this fit an X300 John Deere ?
Will this work on x350
