    After watching your video I was convinced on ordering the mulch plate.
    I will be getting it sometime this week and can't wait to add it to my Deere, nice doggo, my beagle loves laying on the grass after a cut I guess she uses it as a back scratcher 😂

    You are supposed to put that plastic clip inside the mower deck by the back wheel that makes it much more of a snug tight fit. and the bungee goes in the small hole close to the deck wheel

    I have a John Deere lawn mower 100 series..how do I take off the mulcher plug

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just lift up the plastic discharge cover and remove the front and back hooks connected to the rubber bungee straps and it will come off the discharge opening.

    If you are using the mulching plug or cover as shown, why do you need to put the chute back on?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never took the shoot off because it’s permanently attached. Plus if I want to mow without the plug that shoots already in place.

    I use my mulching plug in the fall to chop leaves. I discharge clippings (cut with the mulching blade) to the air during summer.

    I own a JD 130 and I only use the plug when cutting the grass in the summer. Using the plug for fall leaf mulching bogs the engine down and over heats the tractor engine. I have tried raising the deck to its max and it still clogs up. For the fall leaf mulching I just run over the leaves at 3.5 inches and circle around a second time. No plug. My mower mulches much better when I back over the first cut. I use JD Gator blades.

    So "mulching blades" are not necessary? I can just use the OEM blades and mulch my lawn clippings by just adding the cover?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it’s possible. However, the lawn looks much cleaner when cut with mulching blades.

    When u installed kit. The left side by rear tire has that clip that clips or slides a small part into the deck. Did you slide n clip that side or just put it in place n clip it on....I have the e100 n I only have the small hole about 2 inches over from that big hole. I see u have hole rite above big hole. My kit tends to sit a little high...I think I might drill that hole u mentioned so I will have some downward pull. I just ordered mulch blades....reviews say it give a little better cut. But your lawn looks amazing for not having mulch blade. Thanks for the info

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I place mine in the hole on the tab that you see in my thumbnail photo. I agree that there is not enough downward pull on the cover. The extra hole is likely a good idea. Just account for the path of the rotating blades so that you will not create an obstruction. Also , about the mulching blades, I bought a set this fall. My mower does a much better job mulching grass and leaves with the mulching blades. Here is the link to the blades I am using: amzn.to/3oaK3Jv

      @@BudsSmartHome I'm finding that mulching kits for the X500 series John Deere's are pretty expensive and not really made to go on and back off easily or quickly. Fortunately, I still have my LA-135 and it will accept a mulching plug like this you show, so I think I will hold on to it and dedicate it as a mulching machine for the immediate grounds around the home, leaving the 500 series (yet to buy) for the bulk of the mowing in our field. I appreciate you sharing this video with others. I wasn't sure this gadget would actually work but it looks like it will - good enough for me, anyway. Thanks!

      @@BudsSmartHome Bud, wouldn't it make sense to remove the long, plastic discharge shoot when mulching? Also, on my LA 135 deck, I had difficulty attaching the clips because of a small difference in how the holes on the wheel bracket and (esp) the rear end of the deck were situated. I solved this by reversing the clips on the rubber grommets. (yes, I did purchase a JD plug after viewing this video).
