This respects what the car is and the philosophy of why it was built, while improving on all its stock shortcoming and adding just enough to make any true enthusiast go "Wow!" I'm planning on getting a FRS or early GT86 soon and this is an excellent template of where I want to take mine.

Love it! I’m actually planning on buying one of these and daily-ing it. That is, until the GR Corolla Hatch gets to the states. Supposedly around the end of 2022 the North American market is supposed to have the same 1.6 3 cylinder turbo engine from the GR Yaris. Transmission details are murky but they do seem to point toward AWD. They also predict it will be putting out closer to 300 bhp then the 268 that the GR Yaris has. Most likely to make it more compelling being a slightly bigger car and power hungry market here In the good ol’ 🇺🇸. If the GR Corolla comes to the states by the end of next year, I will be lining up to grab one as soon as they come out. Especially if it ends up being how they predict. AWD Turbo 1.6 3 Cylinder (which sound brilliant btw, like a mini inline 6) 6 speed manual with LSD. At least one LSD, hopefully front and rear will be optional specs you can add. Bigger brakes obviously and in the form factor of the hatch, which is already a great looking car. To me. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I really enjoy how the Corolla hatch currently looks though. Still the FRS/BRZ twins, even the first gen are great cars! I don’t mind the torque dip because I’d be adding a supercharger or turbocharger either way. Amazing handling cars for the money.

Everyone is too busy chasing hp when they should be dialing in a great car. I think his would be perfect if he had a function diffuser and removed the wing. It would help a little with the understeer while still creating some down force and reducing drag.

This is a proper 86 twin. I’d only change the wing for a GT style wing vs the swan neck he has on there. That just personal preference though.

Is there any frs/brz that you know of with a complete engine build that is normally aspirated? I've been trying to find information on fa20 builds but don't see anyone attempting it. Maybe you can show us how it's done 😁

Random one Dave but wheels are those on the white Evo 7 next to your FRS?

  • @Sentient6ix

Dammit, that guy's cruise control bracket is way nicer looking that the one I'm trying to fab up. First FRS I've seen with a QR and retains the oem cruise control switch. I went looking into this, and everyone was a god awful aftermarket switch assembly that just takes up SOOOOO much real estate

For autox, re71r are a fucking godsend. For road course of over 3-5 laps depending on track.....they will grease like crazy because theyb overheat so quick. Which is why i like using rival s for track, and re71r for autox. Hell even in autox, if you don't cool the re71r, they will grease

I see you guys did some research into RE71r’s after I mentioned them. Still can’t wait to see you guys do a review on them and see what you guys think

Short Take: 71Rs are haxxx. I love them and they can handle the weight of some heavier cars. They do overheat halfway through a hpde session (id say about 10-15 min in)

I think the brakes only feel good because you dont need to slow down much to have a stable corner entry, but the brakes by themselves are probably bad. It would be more apparent on a tighter trackwidth.

what driving modes were used? Traction control off for 5 seconds? or vsc sport button? may I could use a ELI5 for the different modes.

Looked great except for the slower corners with moderate understeer.
Add some roll stiffness to the rear or reduce it on the front and you are golden.

This was the car's second shake down since I overhauled everything and didn't tinker with the suspension until I found the limits of the grip.
Thanks for the suggestion! Definitely looking into stiffening the rear to get the back end to rotate.

@@JasonHoangGT that's the beauty of having aero, you can make the suspension kind of loose for the slow non aero dependent corners and have some rear downforce to stabilize it at higher speeds. Awesome car btw!

    • @speedacademy

Maybe, but this is a street car. We think with some damper adjustment the minor understeer can be dialled out.

TMP has been doing some repairs to the track surface and coning off the new patches to let them fully cure/harden.
