I am 59 and have finally decided that I have always wanted to draw and learn to express what I see. I will join you, and thank you for your time and efforts.
Thank you. I wanted to learn to draw when I was in high school, but I didn't know where to start. Thanks to you, I think I can learn to draw nowThank you. I wanted to learn to draw when I was in high school, but I didn't know where to start. Thanks to you, I think I can learn to draw now
Nice start! I followed! 😂
Thank you so very much. I’m 82 and drawing has always scared me but at the same time it’s something I always wished I could do. I’m going to be with you for these lessons, one a day. So excited! 💕💕👵🏻💕💕
omg, im 44 and love art, and i know im gonna live max 20 more years, because of the chosen job i embraced out of desperation, removing asbestos, but chatting and watching youtube at 82"?? amazing, im never gonna reach 65 honestly. crushing.
Thank so much for your honesty. I thought I was the only one who was scared by drawing.
❤❤❤❤❤
much love and respect.
😮
This video makes me very excited. I remember in 3rd grade when we were told to get a leaf, trace it in the paper, then color it green. Everyone got a perfect score but me. So politely I ask my teacher what I did wrong. She replied that the leaf I drawn has brown on it instead of green. In my mind "but there is a brown part of the leaf." That is when I knew that following the instruction of the teacher is more important than being original and creative.
Can we build a community and somewhere upload our results over time - under a hashtag? 😁
Great idea. I'll see what I can set up.
@@SketchBookSkool maybe we just agree on a hashtag for Instagram, to start small?
Maybe a Reddit page?
@@SketchBookSkooloh, yes, please. This would be wonderful to start out!
A Facebook group would be easy to set up and use 😃
What I (besides the content) really love about your videos is, that you do not cut every other sentence or even mid-sentence like so many other people.
A huge THANK YOU for that and all your calm messages and ideas and stories. Everything 😊
Greetings from Germany!
I appreciate that!
Thanks. I have been drawing each morning on a small memory pad. So far, I’m enjoying it but I label my finished sketch so I can remember WHAT I was drawing. I just had my 70th birthday and I’m having fun!
I'm the type of person who doesn't comment on TH-cam videos. But today I decided to do it because I'm very grateful to have found your channel. Firstly because the way you speak is so calm, pleasant and the English is easy to understand (since I'm not a native speaker). This video seems to have made me believe that I will be able to draw one day, so I wanted to thank you for your work and encouragement. Absolutely loved your channel.
Wonderful! I’m so glad I can be helpful to you.
I never noticed that a mug is curved at the base. I would have drawn a straight line. So I learned something new today.
I'm 70 and always had the dream of drawing, painting...I felt like drawing has to be a first step for someone without talent-a total beginner. I've been searching TH-cam for so long, and all of the Drawing for (total) Beginners videos are not that! But your first video for this course just fills me with so much joy and hope. Your voice is gentle, calming, and affirming. I did the shapes drawing and felt so calm when it came time to put those shapes into drawing a mug, Thank you so much. I'm here for the long haul!
This is a pretty tall order. I am 70 yo. I always wanted to draw and paint but even stick figures failed me. Last year I started watercolor which I am terrible but it soothes me. I attempted to draw a little every night but became very discouraged. One thing is I love to learn! I am going to give this a try. Thank you.
Just yesterday I sadly realized that I don’t have a hobby, something I really look forward to do everyday and whenever I have some spare time. Suddenly today I came across this video and it made me smile. I love how you communicate and how you take pressure off the process. I’ve always wanted to learn how to draw but my perfectionism paralyzes me. I’ll do it this time with you by my side. Thank you so much because this video really made my day!
Merci Danny ! Greetings from Montreal ! I’ve been following you and Sketchbook Skool since 2017 ….. I am 71 and still scare of my Sketchbook even though I draw, sketch, scribble and doodle every where else. So, let’s go for you videos. Thank you so much xx
I have always wanted to learn to draw. It's been something that I have dreamed about for literally decades. My mother could draw and it always fascinated me. It's always been something i have admired in others and I've just always thought i could never do. Every time I think about trying to buy a sketchbook and a few pencils i get afraid and a bit overwhelmed in the art store and I just don't. 😞
I'm 53 and used to love to draw as a kid now I have cancer and don't give out of the house much I would love to start drawing again but due to some of my cancer treatments I only have vision in one eye so I don't really have a death perception and them colored blind but I would love to start
Wishing you the best in this process and journey.
Good luck on your health journey and pick up a pencil and draw
Praying that you will have a full recovery! Don't let the depth perception issue stop you, just do it anyway! I think it would give your work a unique perspective. And really, who has to see it? Do it because you enjoy it. I hope you're feeling well and strong.
One of our famous children's artist was blind on one eye. He made my childhood. Never give up, sending love!
I know what it is to have Cancer. I'm sorry that you have Cancer. It keeps you from getting anything done. Then it's difficult to enjoy life when your recovering. I had a hysterectomy & I had a double mastectomy. And recovering from surgery is difficult. My life hasn't been the same after having Cancer.
This teacher is a real discovery.
I have paid for online art courses that do not cut to the chase and make me feel like I am learning right away and that I can be excited about doing more. Thank you so much.
That is awesome!
I know exactly what you mean! I bought a online course and it was meant for beginners. That’s totally okay! But I get bored and want to skip ahead to a part that’s new to me. But that wasn’t possible. So annoying and a amount of money through the drain 😢
Thank you. I've been trying to learn from a book and it didn't explain why practising straight lines, circles etc. was a useful thing to do. My coffee mugs didn't work out well, but I now understand why and I'm already more confident.
Awakening brought out my gifts. God brought you to my creativity 🧩I have always enjoyed art. My 7th grade art teacher ..back in 1963
-Mrs Morgan taught with enthusiasm, I caught the bug and READY FIRE AIM✌🏽❤️🔥DOIT❗️🌻🐝
I've always wanted to learn how to draw, I guess this is my ticket!
Thank you for helping me with this subject. First things first....Chocolate! Nothing gets absorbed in my brain without it. It's the key to absorbing knowledge that is worthwhile! LOL
I have always loved drawing, but drawing didn't seem to love me...until yesterday. While still in lesson # 1 I grabbed my calendar 2024 and decided to rename it "my sketchbook #1" ...and went through to lesson #4. Thank you sooooo much❤
I was thinking about a fence, a brick wall, a rainbow. The mug seems almost more complex, but a relatively simple shape! 👍
I appreciate your dedication to helping us get started with drawing.
You inspired me to start my journal, Ive tried to start sketch books over and over again but your idea appeals to me🙂
So many people act like art is some magical talent your born with. That's definitely not how it feels. It takes patience and effort like anything else. I just never stopped doing it since childhood. It was fun to me and stayed that way all these years. I think your videos will really help people learn that they can make art too! And it doesn't have to be a harshly judgmental experience. ❤
I hope so... cuz if it has something to do with having talent - I am bent :(
I really like you a lot sir! I was looking for inspiration. I went to art school and have dipped in and out of art all my life. I needed a reboot and you have helped me! Thank you! ❤
Thank you Danny ! I am so glad I found your channel . I used to draw as child and then just got lost somewhere , thanks for jump starting this journey for me .
I have followed you for several years and have been impressed with how you can create art with almost anything on almost every type of surface. The blank page Roaring Spring Composition book shown at 9:06 has become my favorite non-precious journal--anything goes and 'mistakes' are completely allowed! It's the best for shutting up the perfectionist voices in my head (monkey, be gone!). Thank you for these videos!
I don't know about drawing, but your voice is so soothing and kind.
Thanks, I appreciate you showing teaching authentic basic drawing. Your inspire me to take drawing class. I didnt have the confident to try. I was so self critical. thank you
You are a complete Nerd! I absolutely love how you bring the science into the discussions. Thank you for the motivation
🤓
I learned more watching this video a couple of times than I did watching multiple other videos. I appreciate your teaching and as someone else who has no formal art training and wanted to pick it up later in life this has been very helpful.
Love your style Danny. Here goes the mug☕️
Love it
Hi Danny, it was the first time that I saw your video and I think it is just a start. I love the way you talk and teach.
Where have you been all my life! haha - I recently took up watercolor but I always have to trace something. Despite watching dozens of drawing tutorials, it was always stressful and unsuccessful. This video changed my entire perspective and gave me confidence that I can learn. I can't thank you enough! I plan on watching ALL of your tutorials.
Have fun!
Just started out watching your videos, your calmess and joyful attitude (along side the content) is awesome. Used to draw as a kid but kinda lost my way on it, thanks for starting that feeling up again!
Welcome aboard!
First of all thank you so much! I've been looking for videos on how to start my art journey properly, I've been drawing for years but I noticed I really don't have a base so I decided to start all over again. Honestly I forgot what art is for me,it's how I express myself and being able to create something beautiful. Unfortunately I began to loose motivation and even finding the time to do it so when I stopped for awhile and sat back down I couldn't draw anything that I'd like ,I started to hate it so here I am trying to get back into one of my favourite hobbies. I hope I can really learn something from these videos because the other tutorials are just overwhelming and it's difficult to find an effective source from where to start. I really like how you explain, your voice is soothing and it gives me the motivation to take my time and just enjoy the process without worrying about perfection.
I am so glad I happened to ran into this site today. I am 72. Ever since I was little I was interested in drawing but didn’t have idea where to start. Thanks a lot for your dedication to teach! English is my second language and your explanation is so clam and clear that I can understand perfectly. Journey has began. Practice practice.😊
dream.
Thank you so much for making this course! I've recently discovered you and Sketchbook Skool and have been inspired to draw everyday since then. The community you have cultivated is so wholesome.
I'm so glad!
I've only started drawing the last few months, I'm looking forward to your insight
I am excited like many others here. I started experimenting early on this yr 2023 with drawing and painting in watercolour. I’ve progressed maybe 1/100th in both lol. I am dedicating to following this course and I just want to thank you so much for developing it. How amazing that you’re doing this for free. I just listened to your video how you will feel when you draw, which brought me here. Listening to you on that described how I feel when I’m sketching, pretty badly lol or painting. I just love art and always have. It’s taken me until I was 65! to start enjoying it. 😊by the way I’m from Northern Ireland
Wonderful! I hope I can keep you sticking to it!
@@SketchBookSkool I’ve just ordered your book Creative License 🤩
Very pleasant guy! Love his teaching techniques.
Thank you kindly!
Your timing is always impeccable. I can't wait to get started!
As a Lefty I notice it’s way cooler to draw lines curves circles and more with the pen traveling to the outside(to the left). I was just copying your hand movements opposite to you. Way easier feeling than I thought it would be. Thanks!
I’ve never even thought of that. Thanks 🥹
Such a small thing to do, but it felt sooo good. I did it. Thank you!!!
I love this idea! Oh, thank you, Danny. You're blessing the world with your gifts... 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
This is so fun! You are so encouraging and heart warming 💓
I love all your books and have them plus given some as gifts! Always a hit! Thank you!!! You’ve helped more people than you know! Especially with that story about the couple who landed in Holland!
Your video about why drawing is good for you popped up in my TH-cam feed today, and that video lead me here. You are so calming in your voice and manner, which just adds to all the other good things from that video. Gonna grab a notebook and see how this goes 😊
Welcome!
Thank you. I came across your videos about a week ago. I enjoy them so much.
I like listening to your voice, and your basic message. Thank you.
You are so welcome
I always want to learn how to draw. you give me the opportunity. thank a million
Thanks for your laid back encouraging approach.
Brilliant clear message - I am getting back to drawing because of your easy to follow message 👊
I am so excited about this!!! I know there are a ton of videos online showing you how to draw but this way I can get all of the lessons in one place. I am confident that by the end I will be able to illustrate the children's books that I want to write. Thanks for committing to this.
Thank you so much. I have picked up drawing again. I drew that cup so fast as a noob. Just from your explanation. I'm subscribing sir. ❤
Thanks Danny, this is very helpful actually. A first step was needed for me.
I'm so excited to get started. Thank you for your time.
Thanks Danny! I just found your channel and this series sound like a great opportunity for me (at just about the perfect time). Can't wait to continue joining you on this journey. Happy 2024!
Огромное!!!!!! Огромное!!!!! Большущие СПАСИБО за русские субтитры!!!!!❤❤❤❤
I’m so glad!
@@SketchBookSkool so I. Thank you very mach!!!
I really love these kinds of videos, i already have pretty good experience of drawing and started very early, but it's still really relaxing to just hang along for the ride, going back to basics and just drawing a mug or two :)
Thanks dude!
Been drawing landscape for five years but I always feel like a beginner so I’m here to learn . Thank you for this tutorial . I do need it
Thank you so very much Danny! I have just found this course so will start it in the New Year. You are the person i would choose as an instructor so i am delighted.
Bro, the Bob Ross vibe is amazing. ✌️
I’m so excited!!! I have needed this guided instruction and practice. Believe it or not, spheres and mugs have been hard for me. Thank you Danny for your generosity and time and optimism!!!
Buzzing for this! Thankyou for all your videos on here 👌

This is very calming and i love how you try to reassure us. It works

Cool - just saw this now. Thank You - Starting tomorrow morning.
I am at a bit of an impasse with my drawing and was looking at your book this afternoon to get some direction. Very synchronous,
Fun to get back to basics
Just strat to draw as a hobbey and your way of teaching or talking really gave me that confidence to belive that i can draw.thank you for doing this my friend.you are a wanderfull teacher.
Hi Danny…. I love your videos and I’m a little embarrassed that I’m now actually listening to them. On #1 lesson I drew the mug. What I realized that it wasn’t my cup. I’m left handed so tried to draw a mug for myself…..it was very difficult?? Finally I was successful. I photoessays but I can’t see how to send it. Glad you’re here.
What a fun beginning!!! Thank you so much!!!
Hallo Danny, since I watched your Videos and bought some of your books I already filled 3 sketchbooks. Love your new Videos ❤
Awesome! Thank you!
I am drawing more and better since I started watching your videos!!
Thank you ❤😊
I.m so excited to take part in this!!
My goal is learning to draw and asked for your book for Christmas. I'm excited about this.
Happy holidays!
Hello, Started today with you. I have been doing it since childhood. Still learning to draw in a way you are teaching. Thanks
Wonderful!
Thanks for the video!
This was so great and so comforting like being with a friend or a uncle I never had
Thank you for making this series! I love how you took off the pressure to build something perfect and just enjoy the process :) Subbed!
Thanks. I especially appreciate the reminder to enjoy the process, which I also heard through prayer. Art school added an element of agony, with the time pressure of deadlines & the severe grading in a harsh, boot camp atmosphere. I just shake my head, what they make of art at that school. Now, I can resume art & drawing, after a break, while actually enjoying the process. This reminded me to be calm, & was worth the time to watch for that gain.
Love it
Thank you very much ! I love the way you're teaching.
thank you for teaching the absolute basics as if i know nothing because i dont
ive been buying childrens drawing books so that they assume i know nothing and i will say i have been pleasantly surprised at what ive accomplished. im not stressed or disappointed, im calm and relaxed. ty fyi i just bought a drawing tablet and having a much harder time
Great video! Thanks for sharing my friend, I couldn’t agree more!!
I am already loving you!! 😍😍😍😍 Thank you very much
Grazie!...thank you...from Italy
Back to the basics! I think I need this. 👍Thx!
Glad it was helpful!
Wholesome.
thank you, I had fun learning to draw after work
Thank you
You are my inspiration.. .... Wish your good health
Just found your channel and have subscribed as I love the way you speak and encourage us to have a go. I'm 61 and used to be good at art when I was at school but I've not done any art since then and would love to have a go now that I have a bit more time in my life.
Welcome aboard!
