Buddy Guy is by far the coolest musician out there. Always a great concert, especially we he starts walking into the audience, playing his guitar. A legend if there ever was one.
Who says Buddy Guy is a great fucking guitarist? He 's not playing rhythmically ! He tries to play fast, but he gets porridge ! He plays absolutely not tasty drawings
I think most guitarists improve with ages, then slowly decreases in speed towards their growing age ... JM not one of these, I only see him improve on every level :D
@@stonejackballer482 ok keep seeing your tribute band (which is great stuff) il keep watching johnny and bobby play slow blues and dead songs til the cows come home
Buddy Guy is a great musician and not only makes that instrument talk, but sings the Blues so well.Back in the 1980s i got invited to play with Muddy Waters and it was an experience I'll remember the rest of my life !!
I completely forgot about this. Mayer was jamming with Phil, long before he ever jammed with Bobby, and long before he ever listened to Grateful Dead tunes... Questlove on drums. John probably doesn't even know who Phil Lesh is at this point... Crazy right?
You simply cannot beat these two together...or apart. Don't get me wrong, there are many greats, but Mayer and Buddy Guy have this interaction that are like no other.
Like I heard Robert Cray say “ when you play with Buddy you gotta watch out because he will keep you on your toes or make you look foolish. This was great and I love how John played back into Buddy with his solo but it showed just how great that Buddy is because he hammered it right back like a buzz saw. I have seen Buddy and it was pure unadulterated blues and totally divine! I thank my lucky stars for all of the many, many shows that I have seen but Buddy is on the top of my list!
Anyone else remember when Buddy would play the bar circuit with J Mayer and Buddy would have this long as plug in and would walk around the bars(Sometimes he walk outside and play too) tearing up the blues!!! South Carolina was here
I can safely say i’m probably the only one who is watching this from Saudi Arabia, been a blues fan for so many years,BG & JM are my top favorite artists
Hey Now Great to see Phil Lesh laying down the Heavy Bass 🎸 Lines with Buddy and John trading licks 🎸 a beautiful performance ! Peace ☮ and Aloha from Hawaii 🙏🤙🏖🐡🦞🌹🏝🐙🌺🍄🪼🌋😎🏄🏻♂🦀🌴🐬🐳🍺🐋💨

All this freaking talent on one stage playing is absolutely just sick, and it's sounding incredible and phenomenal 🎉🎉. Now this is actually what music 🎶 🎵 is supposed to sound like 🎉🎉
I need more of this in my life. Literally. I used to have a crappy MP3 recording of the evening's proceedings, does anyone have a lossless copy or even a full video of the set?

George "Buddy" Guy was Muddy Waters session guitarist at Chess Records in Chicago. Buddy Guy has influenced, and is amongst, the greatest Blues and Rock n Roll guitarists in the history of recording artists.... Jeff Beck since 1961 and his best friend Jimmy Page, also Eric Clapton (just listen to his speech at Buddy's RnRHoF induction), and yes Jimi Hendrix was influenced so much that he canceled some if his own gigs to attend Buddy's live shows and video record them with an 8mm camera to study the films and emulate Buddy's stage presence and like the others even build off some of his licks. SRV is another great who was also influenced by the talent and showmanship of Buddy Guy and the list just goes on. I just don't think he gets enough credit; Although, when folks say "Jeff Beck is your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist", well look who Jeff Beck's favorite guitarist is, enough said. God bless Buddy Guy, 87 years young today, and thank God for Buddy and his "Polka Dot" Strat creating recording performing so much great music... Rock On.
He is playing a standard blues guitar riff on the lowest part of the guitar so there’s nothing abnormal about the guitar sound, but it helps that he’s got really fat tone. At that time I’m pretty sure he was running that strat through a tube screamer pedal and a compressor (I think Katana), then to a two rock amp.
Whoever mixed this deserves an
award.
It's goood!!
I agree it sounds great. Buddy Guy is the man. Check out Festival Express film.
What I was thinking! Drums stole the show for me, with all due respect all around!

This feels like a thrilling conversation in a language that only these two can understand.
Exactly
But everyone understands. They are just flawless translators ☺
JM in his younger days. Kid is carrying the torch for Dead & company!

My favorite era of Mayer was when he played that strat, the two rock amp, and wore black. I thought this was 2005 for a second!
Thought the same it's been a while
Now hes gotta get that prs money.
This video is from 2005. He's got no tattoo sleeve. I thought it was current as well.
This is the right around the time that everyone was realizing that John could actually play guitar.
It is from 2005
Phil Lesh’s bass tone under all this……awesome.

Mike V. Yes, I overlooked that; however I saw footage from his concerts this past summer and he is rocking very well for 83.

man, this is close to the beginning of the "new and improved" Mayer! That change of the company he kept really made a difference.
This was wayyy before he started playing with D&C - people don't realise how long he's been playing Blues like this for!
I'm so glad I got to see Muddy Waters do this !!
No doubt that Questlove had the best seat in the house!
Amazing

JM played the strat like a bass there.
Dude that's what I was thinking.
Does it make a different sound or is it some style of playing or something?
He is playing a standard blues guitar riff on the lowest part of the guitar so there’s nothing abnormal about the guitar sound, but it helps that he’s got really fat tone. At that time I’m pretty sure he was running that strat through a tube screamer pedal and a compressor (I think Katana), then to a two rock amp.
It's probably more for flair to do that bass or flamenco style finger picking on a blues song
@@brianeltomi8571 they’re talking about his right hand not his tone
