You know how awesome it'd be if just out of nowhere on one of his board game reviews, his dairy card game was featured.

I once stayed up all night and played over 40 rounds of this game with my friends. The more rounds you have the deeper the mind games get, add in some lack of sleep and some crazy logic and ideas come out. It's so much fun 10/10 game.

Want some next level bluffs to melt minds in this game? I got a story.
I was playing once with a group, and we had the Daybreak expansion. We had the sentinel in, and he goes before the Werewolves and puts his token to prevent the cards from being moved. I was a werewolf and when I woke up, the other werewolf had a sentinel token on their card. This is bad because the first question always asked at this point is, "what were you?" and refusal to answer gets a target painted on you within seconds. I decided to cause a massive amount of chaos knowing full well I could bail later if someone took my card and rat out the other werewolf. I woke up and immediately kicked back and said, "I'm a werewolf and I will not be voted out." My brazen attitude confused people and everyone panicked and tried to figure out if I was secretly the tanner. They only asked once if the sentinel guarded person was the werewolf, and when they did, they just kept silent as to confuse them more. They voted for someone else, I think it was the insomniac, and I survived as a werewolf and so did the blocked werewolf.
Tl;dr, weaponize the truth, it confuses people to the point of sanity break sometimes.

    • @iwasfeelingbeachy
      @iwasfeelingbeachy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I once just said, "I'm the drunk, I have no clue who I am. Just kill me." They didn't kill me, and I had apparently grabbed a werewolf card out of the center. Poor on them, I guess?

One of my favorite rounds was when I started as the robber. When it was my turn to do my action, I stole someone's card and saw that I got the werewolf. I figured I was screwed, so I went back to sleep. When everyone woke up, another friend said she was insomniac and didn't change. Normally, she was trustworthy, so we believed her. I said stole her card and she must be lying, so the person I stole from, still thinking she was the werewolf, claimed she was troublemaker and switched us back. I ended up winning solely because the exwerewof didn't realize that I was lying and no one else was troublemaker or saw it.

I played the multi-night version of this game once. In this version, the werewolf gets to kill villagers each night. I was the werewolf and let me tell you, I never Pokerfaced so hard in my life. The seer, my uncle, actually found me out, but was way too subtle about that fact. I was able to get the village to vote him out. In the end, I was in the last three. When the second to last villager went down, I got up, flipped my card and laughed the most evil laugh I could muster.
I definitely prefer the long version. The build up and the payoff is soooooo satisfying.

  • @laezzizi

We actually played this in class when we were bored and I can tell you, it was more than 13 players and it was fun!! We didn't have a board, just some scraps of paper with our roles written on it and we also create different characters such as the doctor, the witch/wizard, the peeping tom, and much more!!
Of course, it's more fun when you're the narrator coz you can see exactly what was happening during the night and it's hard to supress a laugh when players are defending or bluffing during the daytime, mainly because you know what's going on.

I’ve been looking for this game for a while. I actually saw it being played in an anime called Tesagure Bukatsumono, I believe during Season 3.
It’s one of those anime that have sections where the va’s have to improvise their lines live, and it was an excellent and hilarious episode.
I’d highly recommend anyone check out that episode. It’s available on crunchyroll.

This game is fun for quick games, but I prefer regular Werewolf. Werewolf provided my all time favorite board game experience, a game of 27 people in a giant circle, with so many roles it was insane. Vampires, Wolf cubs, the Witch, the Wolf Seer, Cupid Lovers, etc.

    • @Valtharr
      @Valtharr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The problem I see with regular Werewolf is the player elimination. If the Werewolves are doing well, you'll have at least one person being removed from the game every round, and those people can then sit around and be quiet for potentially hours, depending on the number of players, and how fast the rounds are.

Anyone who hasn’t heard of the original werewolf let me just explain the rules in this comment section... at least the rules to the way I played it...
Now prozd has already explained some of the rules that would be in the original so... yeah. (Pardon my bad English grammar I’m not originally English, I speak French)
Each game has two sides, like he said, the werewolves and the villagers, the villagers win if they kill all werewolves and the werewolves wine if they kill everyone else, almost everyone else... the game spans across multiple nights and days... every day, like he said, every player must vote on who they want to be executed, the one with the most votes will die... or you could do it the way I did where someone accuses someone, makes up a reason of accusing them (doesn’t have to be done nor does it have to make sense, we just added this in for shits and giggles) and after all the accusations are done everyone must vote who they want to be executed amongst the group of people who’ve been accused, the accused with the most votes will get their head lobbed of their neck.
At night time, like prozd said, everyone closes their eyes. But the cards and roles have kinda changed...
Here are the cards, the ones I remembered.
The werewolves- we know what these guys do, prozd already explained it but I’ll explain it anyways... The werewolves at night time awaken all at the same time... every night they must kill one person... that person is determined via a voting system, all the werewolves choose who they want to kill, the one all the werewolves want to kill will be torn to shreds.
The villagers- they do nothing, fuck you.
The Hunter- he already explained this card, I know, but I’ll say it anyways, when the hunter is killed he is allowed to pummel anyone he choses. I kinda made up this rule but I like the idea of blowing his killer’s brains out and not someone he chooses.
The seer or overseer (I played a French version so I’m kinda just translating these card names)- the overseer (that’s what I’m gonna call them) like he said, can see anyone’s card, but they can only do it once, I think. At night they choose who’s card they want to see
Now here’s where the different cards start to show up.
The Cupid- the Cupid, like the actual cupid, at night, will be able to choose two people and make them lovers, once he chooses the two lovers, they both open their eyes to see who was their lover, this step isn’t necessary, in fact I think it’s better not to have this step in the game (the Cupid closes his eyes at this point). Please note that homosexual couples can be made, just saying. Now what happens when two lovers are, lovers? Well, have you ever heard of the line “Till dead to us part”, I think that’s the line whatever, that means that once a one person in the couple dies the other person in the couple dies. So for example, if a villager and a hunter becomes a couple and the hunter dies, then the villager will die as well.
The witch- the witch, every night after the werewolves have feasted upon a poor soul’s remains, can choose to either kill someone or revive the poor soul that is now a decaying corpse. The witch can only revive once and melt someone else’s face off once.
The little girl/insomniac- i did call this the insomniac but her role is WAY different. Every night the little girl (that’s what I’m gonna call her) will be able to PEEK, I said PEEK, during the entire night phase... “oh but don’t you think that’s a little overpowered?” If you said that then stop listening to a earaped backwards slowed down version of the bee movie for one second because you didn’t read well. I said PEEK that means she can only slightly open her eyes, and pretend they’re closed for the entire night. If she is caught with her eyes open I’m not sure what happens nor do I remember but I’m pretty she gets brutally murdered if she is caught.
I think that’s all the cards... I’m not entirely sure...
I remember there were some more cards but we just didn’t bother to use them... like a mayor or a sheriff of some sort sort whose vote would count for twice I think I’m not sure.

Apc -_- there’s also some fun werewolf roles like the wolf cub, where if they are voted off, TWO people are killed the next night.

My favorite run of this game was where we had 2 werewolves, a doppleganger who copied a werewolf, and a minion (me). So the round basically went me just saying: hey guys, we have a 4-2 majority, let's all vote x person, who happened to be a hunter and we lost :p

I'm here from the Gathering of the Wicked (#190) video because this game was mentioned as STILL being the favorite version of Werewolf and I've never played One Night Ultimate Werewolf so here I am to see how it is played.
6:46 "He just wants to die." That's a mood for sure.
Hum, I may indeed prefer this over Are You A Werewolf? but really the classic one is good but again the being eliminated first night _sucks_ so not having to worry about that is indeed a big factor.
    Anyways, thanks for the video.

I've been playing this for years, but it's a European version? I think? Unless two companies have a very similar game? My version doesn't have, the cards look different and some roles are different. But most is exactly the same. So fun!!
If we play without someone as narrator, me and my friends use knocks to signal that the next player can open their eyes - since we all know the order.

If you want a critical point of view of this game: I think the concept is done to death,
the "whodunit" genre as I like to call it - involves keeping one or two people who are "the bad guys" and your job as a group is to "suss out" the bad guys - unfortunately...
    1. Experience: unless you all know what roles do what you can't play the game how it's meant to be played: having most of my games been played with people that don't know what they are doing felt more like I was playing with 4 minus one every time this happened, fortunately they do pick up on what they did wrong: but by the time they actually know how to play it's the 5th role and they forgot they were the insomniac... oops!
    2. Social Stigmas: now you've been found guilty 3 times in a row everyone is on your case, oh so now you want to speak up huh? Guess that's something A BAD GUY WOULD DO! This causes needless drama which puts me off playing entirely leading onto...
    3. The "How Could you not figure this out - it's obvious!" Naturally, everyone who is a high class snob who knows everything about the game likes to rub it in your face making you not want to play with them due to how toxic the gameplay gets - arguments go on for what seem like a half hour to an hour of constant bickering: if you know where I am during those moments I'm either in the backroom grabbing a much needed shot of alcohol or have bailed out before it gets heated.
    4. Being forced to play it at every family holiday: this game has had me hate it the moment board game night comes around - if someone even remotely hints of a game that involves someone pretending to be bad whilst being under the facade of being good I simply won't play it, there's only so many outbursts of "oh you're soooo not getting it" that I can put up with - I don't care if I get it or not: the game is immediately made unfun by the way people get heavily heated and opinionated on how it should had been played: you lost, get over it you sore loser.
    5. The game plays out the same way: let's be honest, most of the time unless you haven't been spotted by the seer you're immediately going to be outed, it's downright unfair how the seer literately can just point to you without fear of being killed like merlin there's very little going for you in terms of roles and usually unless there is a robber or troublemaker in the round there's not much excitement to be had after you sit through the same few rounds feeling it drag on you as you find out "oh it was my sister again, what a shocker!"
And those are my biggest gripes with this game and every game like it.

@W0lfbane Shika 2-4 is just personal experience with the game and I wouldn't count that as a "critical view". Concerning point 1, yeah.......it's a game with a lot of roles, of course it's going to take a few rounds to understand what characters can do what. Also the seer in point five is much more balanced out when you play with a mystic wolf. That is because a mystic isn't allowed to look at two center cards and is forced to look at a players card which is a large reason why the seer should look at two of the center instead of a persons card. Also concerning seer being "op" when they look at a players card, lie........either make the claim that you're seer first or claim that they're lying. Ultimately not everyone will enjoy this game or games of a similar genre but that usually isn't a fault on the game, but rather shows that everyone has a personal preference of games they enjoy.

I think it’s stupid that you cant check your own role anymore after the night ends. That way if the robber and troublemaker are in the game you have absolutely no basis from which to argue from. You don’t know what you’re even supposed to be arguing for, you no longer have access to your goal. Other than to just create some baseless crazy fun, I don’t think those roles are a good idea since it doesnt reward smart/good play in the slightest but instead encourages randomness for the sake of randomness.

It adds an interesting complication because you can now openly claim an evil role if you suspect you've been swapped. This counterintuitively "clears" your guilty suspicion and, since you are now on the villager's team, you out the person who you were swapped with. (Especially in the case of the troublemaker)

Personally I disagree, some of the cards in daybreak are absolutely ludicrous. Like village idiot and curator are absolutely game ruining.

The cards do help but you don't need the game all you need cards and a phone. If you have a deck of cards you can just decide the roles and downlowd the app. Also i usually remove the villager in a 4-6 player game becuase its boring to have one player do nothing but if its a 8 player game i have at least one villager. The most crazy game i have ever played in was at camp i played with 12 players that was fucking crazy and i loved it.
