  • Stock wiring on motorcycles is massive and a lot of times has unnecessary wiring. Most custom bike builds require minimizing the wiring. This is where SPARCK MOTO saves the day. These guys will build you a full custom wiring harness to replace the huge stock unit for around $300. sparckmoto.com
Lets dig into our 1980 Honda CB650 Bobber Build wiring and see how it all works together.

Trust me, people. Nobody wants this bike to fire up more than me and wrap up this build. But along the way I already have plans for my next bike build. A mean STREET FIGHTER BUILD. The machine I'm using is a surprise for now. And the mod parts are already here. Thanks for hangin out. MP.

Been a mechanic for 32 years, my strong suite is DC electrical. You did a nice job there. Kudos for hooking up the negative last! I cringe when I see people using solderless crimp connectors on a bike; its just begging for problems. I've never used the type that you show here, but they seem to be a pretty good option. One small thing for FYI in the future. When you must use a connector like the one bullet connector that you showed, experience has taught me that a spade style connector is better. Bullets tend to wallow themselves with use over time and become loose. Its a small thing, just trying to help. Love your videos, your bike looks great! Im sure you will get the snafu sorted out in due course and cant wait until we all get to hear her fire up!
EDIT: As someone else pointed out, your oil tank enclosure is a water trap. Electrical and water dont mix very well. You can either rotate the enclosure or drill a hole in the bottom of it so that it will drain. Cheers!

The best way to trouble shoot a wiring problem, is to fully understand it. I still recommend sitting down with a diagram and following the circuits from the battery through to their relative destinations.

Anekcahap C has made a good point. Your chain is too close to the electrical box. On overrun the chain will want to whip and beet against the box.
Best solution I found. Is to create a chain guard. Preferably out of ( reasonably heavy gauge)angled aluminum . Then apoxy a 1/4 " thick rubber strip on its upper side. Mount the guard just above the chain. It will then eliminate any whip that tries to happen on deceleration.

  • @BabyRandyRydeZ

Aaah I know the frustration when you are messing with electrical and then it doesn't work. It's aggravating when all of your time, hard work and skrilla feels like a waste...but....the feeling is only temporary.
It's usually just one wire backwards and a popped fuse away from working how it should.
You'll get it done bud and then get to fire this baby up! Keep up the great work MP! 👍

I suggest removing the carbs (if they are still on) and removing all the spark plugs. Spray a little WD 40 into all the holes/ ports.
Get some jumper cables and a car battery. Hook up the ground wire to anywhere on the case. Hook up the live to that thread I mentioned. Then touch the clamps to the battery.
