    1. Small method: Use packaging tape from the dollar tree.
    - Take out bubbles with credit card
    2. Layer method: bigger projects.
    - Use packaging tape
    - Downside: bubbles and the stripe from layering the tape
    3. Self adhesive laminating pieces.
    - About 30 cents/sheet, kinda expensive
    - convenient
    4. DIY thermal laminating
    - buy laminating pouches for machine
    - use with iron and dish towels
    - drag iron over the surface
    - get corners super well
    - must check a bunch
    - 12 cents per sheet!!
    5. At-Home Laminators
    - bought an at home laminator
    - can find good quality one for $30/$40

    I like that you are so thorough, yet you don't waste any time - you get right to the point. Some of the people with how-to-do-it videos go on and on about things that don't matter or don't need repeating 100 times and it takes several minutes just to get to the important part of their videos. You are really upbeat, cheerful-sounding and I love that you are a teacher (and mother!) because I figure you really know what you are talking about! Thanks!

    I love my laminator. I used the self adhesive laminating sheets for years thinking that I didn't laminate enough to make it worth buying a machine. Then one day I realized that if I had bought the machine at the beginning it would have already paid for itself. I got a machine by Scotch at WalMart and am so glad I have it. I live in the Seattle area (it tends to rainy here) and take the bus or walk everywhere. I now laminate the schedules for the bus routes I use the most so I don't have to carry the entire book around with me. Laminating them lets me pull out the schedule I need even when it's raining so hard that you think someone is just emptying buckets of water on you without the schedules getting ruined. I also print and laminate index cards with information for each day of a trip when I travel. Each card has the information for one day on it. I'll use my upcoming trip to Disney World as an example. The card for my first day / travel day has the date, my flight information, hotel information, scooter rental information & the operating hours for all four parks on it. The other days ha the date park hours for all four parks, what park I'm planning on going to that, any fastpass+'s I've made for that day as well as any dining reservations or special activities/events (christmas party, tour, Cirque du Soleil) that I'm doing.Being laminated means that these cards hold up to being pulled out of a bag, stuffed in to bag, rain, being dropped on the ground and being on the table at lunch when I spill my iced tea or water all over it and the table.They're also more convenient to refer to then the same information on my phone is because my phone is password protected. I've also laminated copies of my go to recipes and/or my most frequently used recipes that way If the butter spatters while being creamed or the molasses drips or oil spills and it gets on the card I can just take a damp and even soapy cloth and wipe the card down and the family fudge recipe is still readable.

    I've been homeschooling & decided to start laminating some things. I started looking at the price of the self- laminating sheets which kind of felt a bit pricey😫. All of sudden, I'm looking at diy crate projects & then stubbled upon your video & I was blown at these tips. Thanks so much because I will be using the ironing tip. 😁

    I definitely have done the tape method a few times and it's a great option! I have not tried the thermal ones with an iron, though! SO SUPER EXCITED to know it does not require a machine! Thank you so much for sharing that tip!

    Two more dollar store methods are: rolls of either clear peel-off shelf paper (low-gloss) or clear peel-off book cover paper (high gloss in bright neon colors). Rolls vary in widths between 10" thru 18" and all rolls have peel-off backing preprinted with an all over half-inch grid and edged with ruler numbers and markings.

    Good ideas. I have used the packing tape trick for a long time. My best tip is to type up your list of prescriptions you take along with dosage amount and put on a credit card size card.. Then I "laminate" with the tape. I put this card with my insurance cards and always have that info available when filling out info at a doctor's office, etc.
    I enjoy your videos. You always have great tips.

      Jackie, this is an AWSOME idea, and since I've just had my second heart surgery I'm seeing new DR's, having to go to a lot of different types of DR'S and they all want to know not only that information, but what your allergic to, what surgeries' you've had, and a host of other information that people really needs to have on them unless they've been blessed and haven't ever had a operation, no allergies etc. and now I have to carry a card saying I have metal in my back and leg's, that I have stent's in my heart etc. and I wondered how I could protect them, so between you and MISS KTHERYN ( I know it's MRS. I just call everyone miss ) I know what to do and how to protect it ! THANKS LADIES ! HAVE A BLESED WEEK!

    • @debbie5005
      @debbie5005 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a great idea!
      It also would be so helpful if we were to get sick/injured and couldn't speak for ourselves. A helpful, rescuer would be able to find the info when looking for our ID in our wallet.
      (Hopefully that doesn't happen and we're all safe n healthy :) but smart to be prepared!)
      Also, when we go to the pharmacy to pick up meds, we can show the pharmacist to double check there are no contraindications or allergies to the new med, with our current meds.
      Thanks for your great tip!

I recently bought an a3 machine also for $20 so I can do larger items. The tape idea is brilliant for labels. thanks for sharing

    Just to add, if you have bigger projects (aka multiple sheets of paper) you can use the laminate rolls. Those are the rolls they use in large hot seal laminators, you can just buy the refillable rolls. You can also use an iron to seal them like the thermal pouch laminate.
    Also per page its a lot cheaper, so if you have to make a ton of signs it might be more cost effective option. I did a brief tutorial on my channel how I use it.

    I have been doing the postal tape label thing for a while now. You can find labelers very cheap - but they really sock it to you with the price of the labels. So I just make my own. And when I do, I can print professional or really personally designed labels in color from my computer and then apply postal tape to laminate them. Thanks for the ideas as always.

I've gotten to where I wanted to protect EVERY recipe I print off or is given to me by someone else, and page protectors can run into a lot of money unless you get the real thin cheap'o's (LOL) But I tend to get food of some sort on ever recipe I try, but I didn't want to invest in a laminating machine, but now I know of several different ways to laminate thing's big and small I can laminate it all !!! ONE HAPPY CAMPER ! XOXO TO YOU AND CARSON! LOVE, Denise

    I laminated my cleaning system lists by just slipping them into a sheet protector. I use a dry erase marker to check off my list and clean it off when done with a paper towel. When I am satisfied with the list and don't feel it needs any tweeking I then close off the top with washi tape so there is no chance of it slipping out... however I have had these lists for several months without the tape on the top and they have never fallen out. I got the sheet protectors at Big Lots 20/$1,

    I laminate everything with "self-adhesive laminating paper", I actually couldn't find the name of this thing on the instructions in this "paper"; they come in rolls and in my country I buy them in yards. Depending on the finish I want the thing to be laminated to have, I use the matte or shiny one. I use the hack of the transparent adhesive tape too. (I do not know if I made myself clear. English is not my first language).

    Great video! I just don't understand the 3rd tip, you said it was a teacher hack....However; any teacher would agree a laminator is much safer around kids than a hot iron. After configuring up the costs, it is much cheaper as well. Scotch brand laminators are only $20.00 at Wal-Mart, & all you have to do is turn it on and plug it in. A cheap Steam Iron is $25.00, then you have to add water to it AND have an ironing board. But to each their own, keep up the good work! 😀

    Great tips! I have a question, since you're the expert ;) I am looking into the thermal laminating, but I am curious about laminating projects that are larger than 8.9x11", because that seems like all they sell. I have heard about using contact paper, but what if it's a sheet lets say as big as a poster board? Thanks for any info!

      You can get cold press laminating material in anything up to 6 feet wide! You usually have to have a roller press (electric or manual) to apply the material without wrinkles and bubble. Just look up "cold laminator" in TH-cam to see the sort of thing.

    I use that scotch laminator at work (nursing home activities director) but i totally use the tape method as well for smaller or less important projects.

    I love my laminating machine, and best of all, it cost me 9 Euros (about 11 dollars)!! It works fine and the (off brand but great quality) pouches are super cheap as well.

    Sometimes companies give teachers free laminating sheets. In MA, Flexcon donates the outer wraps, end rolls, and older stock to teachers.

    Clear Contact Paper when you want a matte finish.

    • @DoItOnaDime
      @DoItOnaDime  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ramona Q I guess I have never bought the right contact paper. It always looks cloudy to me and I feel like I waste a lot (the excess edges). Would love to hear how you are making it work for you. Thank you so much for sharing

    • @RamonaQ
      @RamonaQ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      DoItOnaDime Idk. I've done it for... 15 years or so. Mostly for flashcards, and giant homemade colourforms/wall decals. It's significantly less expensive to use a laminating machine, as idiotic as _that_ sounds, but when I don't want the shine/glare, or the piece is too large, I use Contact Paper. I've not noticed clouding, but my eyeballs don't work so well. Maybe what I am seeing as matte, is cloudy, Idk! ( ◠‿◠ )
      Ironing the pouches is a brilliant idea, btw.
