    I know this was made 5 years ago but I'm grateful to have come across this now. I have a 2007 Toyota and the more I can do myself the happier I am. I went to the shop yesterday for a check and was told $40 for a clean filter! It didn't sound right. Now I'm glad I waited! Im actually looking forward to doing this myself. I love being able to take of my own problems. I pride myself on it.

    Thanks for the video, even though it's pretty straightforward and might seem obvious to some people.
    My new Corteco filter came with instructions that said the air flow is from down to up and thus the filter would be upside down. It makes no sense though, since the old filter was dirty on top side, and I checked the flow direction by turning on the blower fan. Such a simple job but could've gone wrong if I just blindly followed the written instructions haha, cheers 👏

    Thanks for this. Not sure why the filter I got has the arrow pointing up when the writing is in the right orientation. Maybe the arrow just says which side is up not the air flow. It is clear that the airflow is down. The old filter had tons of leaves on the top side.

    Fantastic video! Quite useful. One note I would add is when replacing the glove box, I had to do a "pop" on the top rim to get the lower clips to seat properly. Thanks very much for creating this video.
    BTW the reason I was looking into this is because of mice. It seems this is an area mice can get into your car and build a nest. Nasty!

    That was great and very helpful, Todd ! Thank you for making it look so easy. I have gotten conflicting info on 1999 Corollas in that they are not supposed to have Cabin Air Filters ? What do you know about this ?

      Hi, I just bought a 2001 Corolla :) - I looked for the screw on side of glove compartment but couldnt find one, and found one source online that said they only started putting in cabin filters in the Corolla from year 2003 onwards. So, looks like we may not have to worry about it :)

      Correct. Airflow is from bottom to top

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No dirty air comes in the top and that is obvious from the dirt that collects on top of the filter. It's not rocket science.
      All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter have downward air flow.

    OK I bought a new cabin air filter for my mothers car.. stinks when the AC is on and NO air getting to the passenger side.. I suppose I better clean the ducts too?

    Arrow pointing UP. Corolla 2008 manual, pg 164.

    • @ToddsGarage
      @ToddsGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i get this question or statement every so often and i understand how it can be confusing. The arrow on this filter and most aftetmarket filters should be pointed down because the arrow is indicating air flow direction. On the factory version of this air filter they just put an arrow and the owners manual says to install up, they wanted to make it simple for people that are not mechanics. So unfortunately there is no one answer for this. It depends on your air filter and whether the arrow is indicating installation direction or air flow direction. Thanks for the comment.

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota's OEM cabin air filter has an arrow that says up next to it. Toyota does not give you instructions on how to install other brands of cabin air filters. They give you instructions on how to install only Toyota brand filters
      Up means up. Air flow arrows should point down. You don't have to be college educated to figure this out. Dirty incoming air enters the top of the filter and that's why dirt collects on the top of the filter. It's not rocket science.

    Do you really need to take out the screw? I feel that by keeping the glove compartment dangling you should be able to access the air filter. Need to try it out though. Thanks.

      The original one had the arrow facing up and it said UP. I'm guessing they meant the direction it was supposed to be installed in and not the airflow. The new one says airflow and had to go facing down.

    Hey, I'm confused about the airflow! I watched your video a couple of years ago, and put the arrow pointing down. When I took it to Toyota they replaced it, and the new one had the arrow facing up....so i looked at the manual and it said arrow should be up. Just bought another one to replace it, and now I'm not sure what to do..... Mine is a 2006 Corolla.
