Three months from now, couples wanting to get married in Alabama no longer will have to apply for a marriage license and exchange vows.
Instead, they will simply file an affidavit in probate court, and they’ll be married.
Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation making the change last week. It takes effect at the end of August.

We got married about three days ago. We just went and got the form notarized. Then took it to probate court. It was so easy to do.

Filing the affidavit gives the state a party in the marriage. You dont even need that.

So it's still basically the same thing

It’s for tax a legal reasons, so no, it isn’t the same thing. The state does, to a degree, need to at least know that you’re married from a legal standpoint, but they don’t need to be the ones performing it/approving it via license.

Naww the marriage license was the bug...the affidavit of truth is all you need to give them notice..and its stands as truth in commerce.

@@misterbobby8913Right. If the system had no part in it there would be no signing anything from their end. So to me it still sounds like the old traditional marriage license with no difference.🤨.

It's sad how stupid people have become these days where they need someone to tell them what to do in almost every little situation of their lives...like people have lost the ability to think for themselves critically...then again there aren't many people out there like my history teacher who pushed me and my classmates to always do critical thinking exercises at the end of each lesson.
