Tip if you’re hunting for Seiko models on eBay. Some sellers will not research the model # and post listings with only the movement caliber since it’s on the case back. Eventually some pawnshop or casual collector will post a blue alpinist as a Seiko 6r15 with a lower than market buy it now. I got a Black Bullet SKX with the original president style bracelet last week for about half the market price. It was listed as just a 7s26. I’ve also got underpriced flightmasters, giugiaros, and SARG009/11s listed by the movements.
"Timex just figured 'why not'?" Wrong. Timex just figured 'we've got a trove of excellent designs, why aren't we capitalizing on this brand of ours?' Timex is starting to get it right. The Marlin is lovely and remarkably true to its roots. The Q hits the spot, too, with the same respect for its origins. If some 'collectors' want to freak about this as a limited edition (a la Alpinist), let em. But I'd say don't slag on Timex: they're getting it right - - at long last. And at the current rate, I would bet it is only going to get better.
Thank you! People are showing their snobbish sides. But let seiko drop a "limited" piece soon... fanboys would go nuts. And if people are buying the escalated prices on Ebay, why are people calling them stupid? It's kind of ridiculous
Got mine in the mail yesterday. Looks great. Timex hit it out the park with this one. Nice beater to throw on this summer. I agree don’t pay a penny more than the $179
I just saw a article in my local newspaper that time is producing a watch that the case and leather band will be American made but the quartz movement will be Swiss. Price is over $500. I live 15 min from timex headquarters in middlebury ct. A couple years ago they produced a Waterbury ct line of watches I would of bought but I hate quartz movements. My daily watch and pretty much only except for a cheap fitness tracker is a 1963 seamaster on a Beads of rice band.
I actually have the original 1979 version of this watch, the lume has fallen out of the hour hand, but other than that, it’s great, the second hand actually ticks 3 times per second on old quartz Timex watches, which is way cooler than once per second. It’s chrome plated brass instead of the newer stainless steel, but I think it’s pretty cool
Yeah. It looks nice but for a quarz Timex I think 150$ would be the limit. Also, although it has a very cool vibe to it, when you already own the Seiko SKX009, there is no real need for another pepsi in the same price range.
There is no real need for your comment, too. Do you really think people will buy this watch because it's worth the money, or because it's displaying time?! Don't buy one, the earlier i'll get mine...
Gotta please the “VINTAGE WATCH HYPE BEASTS” no way I would pay 180 bucks let alone 400 on eBay... a Weekender is 50 bucks at most maybe 80 or 90 tops..
Thanks i just got one for 179 i just started my collection and wanted a vintage look American brand under 200 now im i want that seiko tiffany blue next😊 thank you!
Timex went backwards with this I have a 70s timex electric that's an electromechanical watch and it actually sweeps that may justify that cost with the look or even a higher price for some
Mr Goodman, I wanted to comment on how nice your videos are. I love how they get straight to the point and are short but yet very informational. Keep it up!
Don't know if I'm feeling the q timex all that much. Obviously a rolex gmt Pepsi homoge but not a gmt. Timex had some really nice looking pieces from the 70s, wish they'd reissue and modernize more
This watch is actually notable because it’s one few Timex watches with a stainless steel case. Even their American Documents watches had brass on the case back and crown making it a no-go for sensitive skin.
Timex makes a lot of really great interesting watches. Take a break from g shocks and seiko there's a bunch of folks that would love to see you review these watches to. Timex has some bomb watches I'd like to see a review of the bst.47 that thing looks really cool.
Good video Jory. I was able to get one online for 179.00. I really love it, very cool little piece for the money! And yes it sold out in like 16 hours. Saw it on EBay last week for rediculous money! Scalpers!!
With a standard common quartz movement, acrylic crystal, and lackluster stainless steel case, the cost for Timex to make these is probably $25. $179 for a watch with no brand cachet is ridiculous. You can buy an Orient automatic with an in house movement for less.
I don't think Hodinkee will be the select retailer. More likely it will be Todd Snyder. He already sells a bunch of limited release Timex. If you remember when the Marlin came out he was the exclusive seller in many places.
Hi Mate , is there any chance you could do a review on an USA brand called Straton their design is based on retro cars , they look really cool but I don't know much about them have you come across them before. Keep up the great work love your vids.
Mine just came in and I love it. It's worth every penny. The styling is great very retro. It's pretty well built too. I'd have paid $300-$400 for it but it's a steal for the price.
It's not a limited edition it's a reissue like they did with the marlin and many other reissues with Todd Snyder. I would highly doubt Hodinkee will be one of the retailers, they might but I doubt it, they seem to only sell mechanicals and I think the cheapest watch is $600. I would say Todd Snyder.com , Mr. Porter and possibly Nordstrom would be my guess and yes i would pay $180 for this :)
How do you say “horse”? While there is not a specific rule for silent H’s, most words that start with H are not silent. Look up pronunciations for horology. If making watch videos is going to be your full time time job, and least know how to pronounce the field of study you’re working in.
Well they're on eBay now, and going for crazy money... lowest I've seen is $250 (auction, start bid), and goes as high as $550 for a "Buy It Now". A bunch of auctions are in train with current bids in the $300s
I like it, but I also like 12hr bezel watches and have been considering their Navi Harbor watch. Their site is generally MRSP, so when it does hit regular retailers it likely be closer to $100 (possibly a bit under that as a lot of their stuff have a noticeable drop in price sometimes), so I'll probably be keeping an eye out for one. Will definitely not be buying one for higher than $179 as I'd mod a Seiko before I'd do that even if I am trying to add more American brands to my collection.
It's moot for me. 38mm is flat out too small for even a dress watch on my wrist. This would just look ridiculous. I don't dislike Timex. A Timex manual wind was my first watch long ago (I wish I still had that one). I think this is too expensive for what it is. The bracelet is neat though.
I wouldn't pay that much for a very simple quartz timex. I do like Timex. I spend a lot less buying vintage mechanical Timex in excellent condition. OK they'll never be worth a fortune but who collects watches expecting to make money?
Some really nice retro stuff out there from Timex for peanuts. Like the " "rally" watch. This feels overpriced just as that new Marlin. But people think otherwise or it would not have sold out.
I thought I wanted a blue Alpinist but It’s not worth the hassle and price. Why are these Watch companies trying to make these lower end watches rare? I have my father’s 1960’s Timex automatic that still works. I’ll just wear it. Thanks for the review.
Sooooo if you’re sick of the limited editions does that mean you are selling your blue Alpinist? And if you do, I assume you would sell it for retail and not a penny more as to not buy into the hype?
@@thetimeteller LOL, well, I decided not to get the Blue Alpinist, had it in my cart, and decided a $300 watch was not worth the additional $300 hype tax. My point in the post was, if you don't buy into the hype and are sick of special editions, then why would you get the Blue Alpininst to begin with? Serious question, not picking a fight. Quartz Timex at that price is hard to justify (especially when Victorinox has great Swiss made quartz watches for $70). I'd rather spend $20 more on a Timex Marlin with a mechanical movement. Id spend the same on this watch if they dropped the Sea Gull mechanical movement in it.
I love some of timex' designs...but their quality and customer service is garbage. Setting my alarm for a year from now to buy one for $75 on ebay.
One month to go lol
Did you buy
"I'm sick of the limited edition!" - gets one...
The bracelet in the watch looks really cool
Thanks i just got one for 179 i just started my collection and wanted a vintage look American brand under 200 now im i want that seiko tiffany blue next😊 thank you!
Good thing I have my Seiko Quartz 7123-823H. Original vintage. Gold dial, so sexy.
i got one-- super great watch for the price. can't find anything to complaint about.
Looks like 40 bucks worth to me...Maybe stretch to 50.
You are correct. The PC33 movement is crap. You can buy one for $9.00 on Eslinger.
I picked one up. I really like it
I will admit in one second that I'm sour about not getting a blue alpinist haha

I was lucky enough to order one before it sold out. ZERO REGRETS :D
Yea eBay at AUD$650 that’s about USD$450, I’ll pass, cheers bro, love ya work 👍👍👌👌
$450 for a freaking TIMEX? That's ridiculous.

Hell yea, I’ll be passing on it 🤣🤣🤣🤣 shouldn’t have to pay more than $120 in my book 🤣🤣👍👍

Yea your right I think, no more than $100 bills 👍👍👌👌
will the watch fit an 8" wrist?
It looks interesting and I like the size, that’s about it. 179 is a bit too much for quartz and acrylic crystal.
I saw a few on ebay already, for like $500. At that price, it's just sad.
There was the same dynamic with the Timex Marlin. They sold out and they are available. Patience!
