@@ABCTEST213 It appears they make watches in batches, and those that sell out quickly usually take several months to be re-stocked. Just picked mine up about 2 days ago on sale. To start: the dial is soooo cool. You rarely see matte blue dials. If you couple that with the slight patina on the indices and the domed crystal, it really makes for a cool casual piece. It reminds me of the old skin divers in both size and aesthetic that are more uncommon/overpriced now.
I had one of the original Timex pieces back in 1978. Mine was all black, kind of like a SKX007. It was a very good watch, wore it out. I totally missed the first release , and I'm hoping to get another one next time.
I think they have a winner with this one. I opted out because I have a very large wrist but but it's correct for that time period. The new Marlin autos are pretty cool as well and they made a larger size. It seems Timex is aware of the renewed interest in watch collecting.
I saw another recent review that stated that the strap could actually likely accommodate around an 8.5" wrist. The problem is, if you've got a wrist that big are you really going to pimp a 38mm watch? There IS a trend to go a little smaller now for some watches, but I don't recall any of those being "divers."
Not a huge quartz fan, but agree that of late Timex (Timex of all brands!) is doing some really interesting design work with their releases. Someone in their design department really understands heritage watch design. And perhaps more commendably, someone in management is green-lighting those designs and allowing them to come to market. The only Timex watches I currently own are a 1962 hand winder (astonishingly still keeps good time) and a contemporary quartz powered Weekender Chronograph. Color me impressed with these newest offerings.
Got one of the original Q's on eBay. It was a whole line-up of styles back in the day. The distinguishing feature was a sweeping second hand. No idea if it was technically a mechaquartz, but that was the effect. Mine was a cushion case, no bezel, minimalist dial, and that same caseback design.
I like what this watch could lead to in future releases. I don't see the allure though. High priced for what you get. I'd rather have any of the recent Snoopy watches for that quirky go to fun type watch. Thanks as always for sharing!
Snoopy/Mickey Mouse watches are kind of like that "Institute for the Sexually Gifted" T-shirt you get in H.S./college. It seems cool at the time, but then you start to find that there is never really an appropriate situation in which to wear it.
@@kagome4life456 I had to call them and speak to them directly, their website is useless and is indeed in a state of 'updating' except it's always so lol. Hope you get yours soon.

These are super cool. Thank you for sharing this one with us Dan. Thank you for a great review Rob :) I had an original bracelet like that, back in the day, and it was a hair puller - how is this one?
So why is it selling for more than twice retail? Doesn't that blow your argument to pieces? lol this Timex is fast becomes an absolute classic. Too bad your prejudice is affecting your judgment. I would buy it in a heartbeat.
It's currently going for about $600 on eBay. So if you bought one, you could end up bying nine to 12 butt-ugly Amphibias. Not that they don't have an appeal for me. It's just that I have yet to see an Amphibia that doesn't have some weird aesthetic thing going on that I don't care for, that keeps me from pulling the trigger. Basically, every Amphibia seems to have at least one turd in the aesthetic punch bowl. But overall the scuba dudes definitely beat the hell out almost all of the Komandierskis, which seem to epitomize Russian design, at least as we Westerners think of it.
Yeah, and watch your Vostok Amphibia dials fade within 6 months, or get a halfway good movement if you're lucky. If you aren't lucky, be happy with your +/- 2 minutes per day.
@@latonbuzzard2386 of this run maybe. Timex isn't stupid! Got one from Long Island Watch myself, saw them on Timex website. They are huge. Likely too see them in Walmart soon as well. Timex stated they ARE NOT limited editions.

You do many reviews of affordable watches that I don’t really rate or care about but this one is the exception. The best affordable watch this side of a SKX. How much you want for it ? 😉
I got one after 13 minutes. Luckily I checked my email. The absolute snobbery in some of the comments about this thing vs. automatics is unreal. I remember my grandfather having a watch like this, and that's why I bought it. Is $179 high for Quartz? Yeah. But this is cool, it's from Timex's own catalog, and everyone should own a quartz or two. My last Timex went 11 years between battery changes, too.
P K WTF are you talking about? I couldn’t give a shit about whether Timex makes a profit or not. Just wish they’d make a better quality watch. My point, had you bothered to read it, was that it’s likely not a limited edition run as Rob suggested, but as long as there is a market for them, they will keep manufacturing and selling them. They have virtually zero design or development costs other than to shoehorn a new cheap Chinese movement into an old case design. It’s pure profit for them. They barely have to advertise either because they have TH-camrs doing all the heavy lifting.
I really like that style of bracelet. My main gripe against metal bracelets is the fact that you have to pop links in and out to get a good fit, this is not the case with this bracelet on the Q. I really like it, I wish I would see it on more watches.
I cannnot speak from personal experience. But it appears to me that the weave is tight enough that it wouldn't tug any more than any other woven band. It's really kind of kick-ass if that's the case. IDK why we don't see more people using bands like that.
Lol....where have you been the last 16 years??? The WRONG thing the idiots paying too much for overhyped stuff on eBay....they are the ones fueling the market on everything from watches to hot wheels to Twinkies....lol
You can, but the Ray is a larger, thicker watch with less going on, aesthetically, beyond the face/bezel. If you're not going to use it for diving, I'd put them at about a wash. I don't necessarily disagree if a person goes in either direction.
It's kinda cool but it's way overpriced. It shouldn't be more than $50. The casio duro is 45 bucks and it's a better watch. But, hey, if timex can get away with selling a 50 dollar watch for nearly $200, more power to them.
I kind of fine it refreshing when there are vids about watches/brands that a fairly average person might actually buy. The vids about watches that cost thousands of dollars are kind of like watching fashion shows. WTF is going to actually BUY that. Certainly not many people who are not already fairly knowledgeable.
Same. I looked at it and thought 49 bucks so I assumed since everything is over priced it would be 99. $179, absolutely not even though I do like it for a daily beater.
I believe that this is not an authentic TIMEX. It is a Chinese made replica of the original with a Japanese movement. Timex doesn't have manufacturing facilities in both countries. I don't know what the markings on the movement says. There's no bar on Chinese manufacturers not to produce replicas even ROLEX.
Timex had a press release stating that it was a limited initial run. But it will be available en mass at local retailers and their website soon!
