So, I just bought this watch. I got it about a week ago and I gotta say, I love it. It makes me think of the old skin divers of the 60’s and 70’s. There’s a distinct lack of sports watches in the 38mm range, with most falling between 40mm and 42mm. It’s refreshing to wear something light and thin. While it’s nowhere near as durable as my Citizen promaster, my Hamilton field auto, or my Zelos, it’s really all the watch most people need for day to day activities. Great review!
@John R I hear you but we might disagree a bit. I think the design and nostalgia alone demands a premium here but I do see your points. I really love the watch though even if many of similar overall quality are available for less yes
Watch works in every way for me or as the luxury watch folks say "it ticks all the boxes". No more paying $15 to $20 to change a battery, love the vintage look, no more having to visit the jeweler to size the band. Oh and I was able to get a Pepsi Bezel without getting on a waiting list. Man, this watch is a home run.
Why is it that Orient can make the Bambino line of watches for around 150dollars ( an automatic watch line that although simple by watch standards is vastly more complex than just about any pocket knife) with quite nice reliability and fit and finish, and a lot of knife makers can´t make a knife without blade play? Are we demanding too little of the knife makers? or am I way of on the complexity of a knife making?
I love my bambino, but my KA-BAR is sick af. Lol I agree wholeheartedly though. It’s funny that we can produce such nuanced things like watches, but bungle simple things like knives
@@johndesper9425 they are not inaccurate at all, at least with the newer movements in the Bambinos, Rays, Kamasu, etc. Actually better than the Seiko 4R36 which is commonly used by many brands. I own a Bambino and a Ray II and various other watches with the 4r36 and the Orients do better. They are also better specs-wise, if you look at the accuracy the brands officially say the movement can do. One of my Bambinos 36mm is actually doing +2s/day out of the box. The worst is at +10.
I own a Q Timex (Pepsi) and a Q Timex GMT (Batman). Both have a problem with the crown and movement. When I push in the crown, after taking advantage of the hacking feature and having set the time precisely, the minute hand jumps, either forward or backward, by maybe as much as two minutes. This makes setting a reliable time very difficult. Actually almost impossible. I am not alone in this. While no TH-cam video review of the watches seems to mention this, I have read the same complaint in in other online reviews and comments. These are beautiful pieces, but setting the time on them is maddening.
The easy to scratch crystal will make mint condition Q's hard to find one day when you will want one. It is nostalgic. I miss the 1970's. This watch is fun to use. Can't get one now. Sold out.
With watches like the entry level Citizen Promaster Diver that regularly goes on sale for $150-ish.... iso certified with great hand and index alignment, solar, nice bezel, great lume... I don’t find this very compelling at all.
Awesome watch worth every penny. It's about more than juat thr materials, etc. Much more too it for those who are nostalgic. Timex totally knocking it out of the park lately! 👍🇺🇸
For all those who are saying this is expensive. I own the original new old stock with box and papers from 1980 the sticker price on that would work out in today’s money to $212! And that watch was also made in the Far East, not us or uk made! And they were also made in much greater numbers than watches now which are not essential anymore as everyone has phone so for Timex to make a well put together and styled watch like this for the price they charge is remarkable I feel. If you want to moan about pricing save it for the likes of Omega, Rolex or lower down the ladder Seiko or Hamilton who’s watches have increases enormously above their counterparts back then. For instance, a Submariner if it were to compare to this watch should cost around $3000 in today’s Money, an Omega Seamaster auto, around $1500 in today’s money so who is ripping off whom!
You can say whatever you want about other brands but, the bottom line is, this watch is a horrible value at that price. You can get several different Seiko tool drivers for under $200. This is an $80 fashion watch.
Jay Jaffee you can say many things about the brand but to call it a fashion watch is incorrect, this company has serious horological chops with a history to prove it. As to Seiko, in my experience the cheaper models you describe are pretty bland and not that well made and your not being fair on price as you are comparing discounted prices with list. A SKX here in Austria has a list price of €370, you might be able to get new ones cheaper where you are but that’s certainly not the case here.
Jay Jaffee that’s a great watch, again though, here in Austria it can’t be obtained for less than €100 but that’s still a great deal for a great watch.
Love the watch, but price is a little high. It is sold out on Timex website. They have the other version available - the Falcon Eye. Maybe if it were an automatic it would be more worth it. Thanks for the review!
I suppose I should count myself fortunate that my arms are (for the most part) hairless. I own one of these, and I like it as a dress watch, mainly because I can adjust the bracelet on the fly. I’ll agree that the price isn’t a bargain, but neither is it unreasonable given the design.
I like it but the cynical strategised restriction on availability annoys the hell out of me, along with Ebayers trying to sell them at $300. Those factors alone probably rule me out even if it goes back on sale.
I agree 100%. It's a Timex. The price is too high. Here in Australia, the item is quoted at about $250AUD (not including shipping costs) I'd like to have one, but I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a Timex.
Hey buddy just a suggestion for the future... At work we use Mitutoyo calipers and they have a really smooth action! I'm issued the yellow and black version but the grey one is a smooth operator too. If you’re complaining about the price you are missing the point. Id never pay the ridiculous used prices but at retail it’s fine. Just a good fun watch.
I agree!!! it is impossible to actually wear the watch with the arm hair thing. I can't believe Timex ships it with that horrible band and i also can't believe you were able to wear it for 12 hours....I couldn't wear mine for over 10 minutes at a time...My wife also hated it!
This Timex is simply a "fashion watch." Mostly look, but not even up to Timex quality for the price. Not a lot of watch for the money. I bought and love the Timex Navi Harbor 38 mm with a Timex.com site discount for $115 and free shipping. I think this is a better choice for an updated vintage reissue.

I have a Seiko solar quartz prospex watch that is waterproof to 200M which was about $150. I really love it. This is clearly an inferior watch for more money.
This is a terrible value for $180. It's a basic movement, no 'fancy' features like a perpetual calendar, or radio control, it's a dive style watch with a 50m water resistance rating, bad lume, crappy bracelet, and an easily scratched crystal. Really? I don't know anyone buying watches back then who is nostalgic for Timex. If I wanted something like this I'd wait for Pagani Design to turn one out for $60. I remember that bracelet on my 1978 Seiko.
I don't care how good it is, it is not worth $180. It's quartz, only stainless steel and there is nothing impressive enough to make it worth more than $50, you could get some great watches for $50-100.
