The Indian Navy and the Air Force pooled their resources to paradrop marine commandos from C-17 Globemaster to rescue a hijacked vessel. Taking its role as the ‘first responder’ in the Indian Ocean region a notch higher, the Indian Navy carried out a major anti-piracy operation. The Somali pirates, who had seized the Maltese-flagged bulk cargo vessel on December 14, fired at the Indian Navy in international waters on March 15.
