This year is their ten year anniversary. From the first song to the last. Band Maid just keep evolving and doing what great bands do. Look to have fun on stage and make their fans, old, young, new and veteran enjoy the ride. I am old but love listening to this band and they are the first band I have smiled, laughed, cried at their songs. Most of their songs have lyrics available on line somewhere. But you are right about the vibe. They should be made a medicinal miracle. Just so happy watching and listening to them.

@@80mtn Thankee for the reply. Here is the rest of the file. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their TH-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. The title is FREEDOM. It's not dark. The vocals are always very wrapped up in the rhythm. They cover many genres, many songs. Pick anything, everything is good. Best rock band on the planet.
This is one of my favorites. They appear so happy but if you look up the lyrics it is a painful break up song. Loved seeing this live in Houston and NYC last year. They are great live.

Everybody recommends the live "Domination" video for good reason, but here's some suggestions based on your comments if you proceed down the pigeonhole from there: "Wonderland" (official live) really shows off Saiki's lead vocals in a more jazzy format; reminds me of (a really energetic) Sade a bit. "Sayonakidori" (acoustic) shows that founder, rhythm guitarist, and lyricist Miku is a damn fine vocalist in her own right. "Unleash!!!!!" - in this MV they actually _are_ "superheroes" and the song reflects that. However, they have no sub-par songs even with their wide stylistic range, so you can pick anything. EDIT: Their lyrics are always uplifting, but usually more gritty or bittersweet than sugary.
Listening to a random Band-Maid song may give you: a ballad, acoustic rock, heavy, progressive or some combinatination of these and more. One of the only things that stays the same is the vibe. You may want to dive deeper into this pigeon hole, either with some of the suggestions from other posts or just a random one 😁

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

I hope you stick with the ladies long enough to do a .."2fer"....."Puzzle" LIVE at Studio Coast....and the "Puzzle" LIVE acoustic at Zepp Tokyo (with music box opening and added "Anemone")..The acoustic of these two tracks (Puzzle & Anemeone) being some of, if not, the most amazing musical minutes I have ever seen and heard...The contrast from the full fat "Puzzle" LIVE to the acoustic LIVE is sublime.
I just got to see them in Japan like 2 months ago, and it was as close to a religious experience as I have ever had... Cried tears of joy the whole time. They are absolutely incredible.
What a great introductory song for Band Maid. Really this is where to start. These ladies absolutely slay without question, this song for them though, is mild. Little bit of pepper. If you like rock and talented Japanese female musicians (weird niche I get it) you have to do more. What I mean is please do more, this was a great reaction!
I will say this as a huge fan of this band. It is pretty rare to see a drummer that happy while playing. There are some, but not many who are as happy as her
Their lyrics are in general very pop (like love, relationships, fun, friendship, good vibes and some pacifist/ecologist themes too) but the music is the wild part. They vary a lot always in the rock spectrum leaning in the early albums to the hard rock, punk-rock, pop-rock (like "Freedom") and in recent years to a more progresive-experimental sound. But they are great in almost every song.

Nice reaction! Not only does Band-Maid have a great vibe, the vibe changes from one song to the next. They have a very eclectic approach to music, but their sound is always recognizably Band-Maid. If you want to hear a symphonic instrumental, try From Now On; maybe some hard-driving rock, try Warning (MV) or Rinne; a heartwarming post-covid letter to fans in the form of a ballad -- Memorable; if you want to see them go from a bluesy vibe to controlled chaos, check out their Manners & Black Hole 2-fer.
Rachel, If you want to understand Band Maid, you should react to "Daydreaming, "About Us", and especially, their most recent release, "Memorable". "Domination" really shows the group's presence and interaction with the audience. One of my favorite songs to show Saiki, the lead singer's voice, is "Wonderland". These five young women are amazing musicians.

This is one of the first songs with lyrics by Miku (the backup singer and rhythm guitarist). Someone else wrote the music, though they've been playing it long enough that they've stamped their own identity onto it. Nowadays, Miku writes almost all the lyrics, though the lead singer's started writing them, too. Meanwhile, Kanami (the lead guitarist and Miku's tutor) writes the music, with input from the rest of the band. Lots of great songs to choose from, as the other maidiacs will doubtless tell you.
could you react to "Judgement day" by Lovebites? they are an all female metal band from Japan who while having been around since '17 are starting to get a pretty fair amount of attention amongst western audiences.

If you want to hear an ultra-talented vocalist, check out Haley Reinhart and her cover of "Don’t Speak", performed with Postmodern Jukebox. She has a cover of "Creep" that gets most of the attention (as in 100,000,000+ views on TH-cam); I think "Seven Nation Army" is one of her best. "All About that Bass" and "Oops I Did It Again" are fun ones as well. (All done with PMJ, which is a pretty deep rabbit hole of its own.)

This year is their ten year anniversary. From the first song to the last. Band Maid just keep evolving and doing what great bands do. Look to have fun on stage and make their fans, old, young, new and veteran enjoy the ride. I am old but love listening to this band and they are the first band I have smiled, laughed, cried at their songs. Most of their songs have lyrics available on line somewhere. But you are right about the vibe. They should be made a medicinal miracle. Just so happy watching and listening to them.
The Maids are celebrating their 10th anniversary with the original 5 and will be back in the US this May and then August.

Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead.
Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition.
Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition.
Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music.
Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well)
So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance.
And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD!
ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!!
Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"...
The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited)
This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their TH-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill.
Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.

The title is FREEDOM. It's not dark. The vocals are always very wrapped up in the rhythm. They cover many genres, many songs. Pick anything, everything is good. Best rock band on the planet.
This is one of my favorites. They appear so happy but if you look up the lyrics it is a painful break up song. Loved seeing this live in Houston and NYC last year. They are great live.
Nice reaction! Everybody recommends the live "Domination" video for good reason, but here's some suggestions based on your comments if you proceed down the pigeonhole from there:
"Wonderland" (official live) really shows off Saiki's lead vocals in a more jazzy format; reminds me of (a really energetic) Sade a bit.
"Sayonakidori" (acoustic) shows that founder, rhythm guitarist, and lyricist Miku is a damn fine vocalist in her own right.
"Unleash!!!!!" - in this MV they actually _are_ "superheroes" and the song reflects that.
However, they have no sub-par songs even with their wide stylistic range, so you can pick anything.
EDIT: Their lyrics are always uplifting, but usually more gritty or bittersweet than sugary.
Listening to a random Band-Maid song may give you: a ballad, acoustic rock, heavy, progressive or some combinatination of these and more.
One of the only things that stays the same is the vibe.

Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed.

On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University.

Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
All Band-Maid songs are song of positivity. You're in for a real treat if you stay with them because they have no bad songs. Being a singer you may appreciate the angelic harmonies in "Blooming".

THE best Rock band in the galaxy. Yes, you were correct at guessing that Miku (founder of the band, main lyricist, rhythm guitar and backing vocals - occaionally solo too) was harmonising with Saiki. I hope you stick with the ladies long enough to do a .."2fer"....."Puzzle" LIVE at Studio Coast....and the "Puzzle" LIVE acoustic at Zepp Tokyo (with music box opening and added "Anemone")..The acoustic of these two tracks (Puzzle & Anemeone) being some of, if not, the most amazing musical minutes I have ever seen and heard...The contrast from the full fat "Puzzle" LIVE to the acoustic LIVE is sublime.
One thing to be aware of is that they have some instrumental songs, which are very good and designed to give their singer a break.
I just got to see them in Japan like 2 months ago, and it was as close to a religious experience as I have ever had... Cried tears of joy the whole time. They are absolutely incredible.
What a great introductory song for Band Maid. Really this is where to start. These ladies absolutely slay without question, this song for them though, is mild. Little bit of pepper. If you like rock and talented Japanese female musicians (weird niche I get it) you have to do more. What I mean is please do more, this was a great reaction!

I will say this as a huge fan of this band. It is pretty rare to see a drummer that happy while playing. There are some, but not many who are as happy as her
Their lyrics are in general very pop (like love, relationships, fun, friendship, good vibes and some pacifist/ecologist themes too) but the music is the wild part. They vary a lot always in the rock spectrum leaning in the early albums to the hard rock, punk-rock, pop-rock (like "Freedom") and in recent years to a more progresive-experimental sound. But they are great in almost every song.

This is one of the first songs with lyrics by Miku (the backup singer and rhythm guitarist). Someone else wrote the music, though they've been playing it long enough that they've stamped their own identity onto it. Nowadays, Miku writes almost all the lyrics, though the lead singer's started writing them, too. Meanwhile, Kanami (the lead guitarist and Miku's tutor) writes the music, with input from the rest of the band. Lots of great songs to choose from, as the other maidiacs will doubtless tell you.

She has a cover of "Creep" that gets most of the attention (as in 100,000,000+ views on TH-cam); I think "Seven Nation Army" is one of her best.
