I personally prefer original paint with a ppf. In my country even a vinyl change in colour you have to get the car certified for road use and it's a hassle.

When you said tesla (especially) has a bad paint job i laughed a little because where i'm from a lot of people buy tesla's. And almost all, if not all of them who buy these cars Go and spend 1000-2000$ for paint correction and long lasting coat from day one, Becouse the paint is VERY thin and not at all perfect 😂.

I have an old Toyota 4Runner from 2001 and the paint has faded on the hood and top. I was thinking instead of repainting, I thought maybe I should have it wrapped...
Hey ck, there is a huge thing you missed. Wrap gets a bad name from installers who don’t specialize in auto wraps. I have my own auto vinyl shop and i redo tons of jobs from other shops. PLEASE put up a video solely on exactly how much you can stretch into a concave or around a corner and how. When to stretch and how and why to inlay for longevity. Ive seen sign guys putting tons of pressure and stretch to get tight wrinkles out around corners on vans and bumpers. Yes it lays down for the day the customer picks up but after one day in the sun all the overstretched places come up. I see this all the time from people doing e90+ bmw bumpers and any trunk license plate recess.

@@crabmans13 Use inlays! Don't overstretch film when not needed, don't over heat, cold stretch as much as you can

I didn’t finish the video but my opinion has always been vinyl wrap is the best way to change the color of a car. And I think painting should mainly be used on repairs or aftermarket modifications to paint match them to the original car color.

Wrap is better then painting, but I wouldn't put a chezzy looking wrap on my lamborghini either
Great! Just pay him $10k every 3 years for a wrap.
It's about $3k-$5k on average for a full wrap. Spend $10k on a new paint job and you'll be painting it every 3 years as well. Painting a new car a new color is one of the worst things anyone can do unless it's done properly which costs upwards of $30k. A wrap will also protect the original paint.

bro, im having a hard time wrapping my own window trim on my 2015 Tahoe... one rubber side is easy to tuck.. the other not so much.. hardly any rubber lip to hold up to tuck.. so its making my cutting terrible. any pointers?

I have wrapped my 21 year old car , because the paint is gone and faded. It is no pro job in any way but doing it myself the cost are lower then painting , and still looks great. What was the price of the material
Hi Chris...maybe you can answere this question for me.. my car is wrapped in Avery pearl satin white. They damaged a door so i need to re- wrap the whole door. I need to order this again but it comes from a different role . Is this visible when you use it from another role ? Thank you for your help ! Best regards Chris
Hey Chris, it's possible that the color could be off by a shade or so. There are a few factors.
1. The lot number could be different. However, Avery is pretty good at keeping the color difference very close to the previous batch, in most cases it wouldn't be enough to notice.
2. Pigment fade depending on how long it's been installed and how much sun exposure there is. Horizontal panels will typically fade faster than vertical.
3. If the wrap is stained a darker color from daily use and improper washing.

Got any tips for those customers that seem to never be happy with the wrap, it's always something they complain about very minor things
Niche market, those that can afford wraps expect god-tier work from all the expert-level quality they see from videos like this. Nothing can really be done, its just some people will always complain because they think they deserve to by spending so much money, and I kinda agree but at the same time, but they should also be happy and show some appreciation.

@@ngarci8040 repainting a car that costs $100k+ when it's a brand new car is just a really bad idea. Doesn't matter if it's a custom job. But I'd love to see some facts on why it's better than a wrap.

I can't wait to hear from your perspective what is so bad about plastidip......should be worth a good laugh. It can do mostly everything a wrap can.
Harmful emissions + overspray to start you off. Overspray is inevitable, unless you're removing hoods, doors, trunks etc there will be particles which make their way through between the gaps. I've seen hundreds of sprayed cars, many by professionals and there is always overspray.
Plasti dip is good for objects similar to lettering & emblems. It does have its place.

your paint prices are bogus as hell, hate to break it to you. you must be referring to the california price hike just because its in california, because you can get an immaculate paint job for 5 grand all day long. and for 10 grand you can get perfection. the one and only time anything would cost more than that youre looking at very exotic paint jobs that wont be any less than about 3-4 different tones.
I'm sure there are parts of the world where you can get an immaculate paint job for $1,000. The most durable and nicest paint jobs I've seen are $20k+. Even Larry @ammonyc had his Porsche painted gloss black and he said that was something like $80K. If you paint a Lamborghini for $10k you might as well finger paint it. There is no way anyone is going to do all of the disassembly, prep, spray and reassembly for $10k unless they use low grade paint. The cost of paint alone can be a few thousand dollars. The paint jobs I've seen take 2-3+ months to complete. I don't think a skilled painter is going to be making only $2.5k a month over 3 months with all of the work that's necessary for it to be immaculate.
In alberta a decent shop will START at 10 or 15k. A painter doing it on the side in his shop will run you 4k for a respray
@@tysonk5347 its definitely possible to get a respray for even $1k and it could last a year or more. The shops who I know which do high-end work will lay down 6-10 layers of paint and wet sand (by hand) between each one. They'll also lay down several layers of clear coat and wet sand between each one. Along with disassembly, it's usually around $30k on average for this type of workmanship.
@@CKWraps same in my area. A cheap paint job can be found as well, but as a professional wrap job to professional paint job is more what I ment. Mostly older cars and restomods here. Those cars typically are 30-40 for a good wetsand and buffed candy paint job.
30-40k sounds about right. If we were to compared the best craftsmanship of wrap to the best craftsmanship of paint, the value of wrap is quite a bit lower. But it's not so much about comparing the two, it's more about which is a better fit for what you're trying to achieve. In the modern day, the average person only keeps their vehicle 3 years give or take. To repaint (great paint job) a car that's only 3 years old would be more expensive and also depreciate the value. It doesn't make sense to me but I can see how people believe it's the best option to get a paint job for a couple thousand.
