  • This is the first video in a series on building a wireless SCADA system to monitor engine/chassis parameters from the pit area on 1/5th scale RC vehicles. Next in the series will dive into RPM and LiPo parameters.

Once again mind-blowing stuff brian. Finally somebody making stuff that we can use. These are all the steps we use when tuning. 😮😊

Thanks Vance. this project is going to eventually expand and morph into a chassis dyno, probably this fall and winter. Thanks for checking it out buddy

check out the hall-effect sensors that we use in RC helicopters made by Xguard RC. one picks up off a magnet that you epoxy into the fan and the other sensor picks up off the crankshaft spinning, thru the crankcase. I've used both and don't see any reason why you can't use either of those for this application. The sensors themselves are small and weigh almost nothing. In kart racing, our RPM sensors pick up off the electrical energy in the spark plug wires.

Thanks for the tip. My original plan was for the hall effect but i'm running into space issues inside the Taylor engine, so i'm currently working on a design for a inductive pickup for the plug wire. Thanks for the info and thanks for checking it out

Very sweet tech. Galaxies ahead of the rest bro. Lol 😁👊
You are a busy guy I see.. Can't wait to see the losi2.0 build. Love that custom stuff. 😎

I use a flysky with telemetry and thats exactly why. To watch temps, vs rpm, vs egt. And of course pack voltage.
I had the same thought about where to put the egt. And my thought was the same as yours but i chose differently. If the escaping gasses do cool right at the head, thats exactly where i wanted to to be as if that rises, then the temps inside the combustion chamer have to be climing too.

You can never have enough info, well in the case of an engine anyhow. I have to go check out some of your engine videos now. Thanks for watching JD

I haven't really done any videos sadly. I wish more transmitter companies were cheaper on their telemetry radios. It's just what I use. And without it, I would never have known one of my 1/5 scale mini sprints was no where close to peek rpm. Turned out to be a pipe problem. The pipe was adequate for a stock engine but killed the 6 port cylinder and stroker mods.
I am no were as tech savvy as you are in this video. Its great info and I may use some of you knolage for a dyno set up I want to build to get all the data you have access too now. It's the only way to know.
      Thanks again.

@@jdsstegman Well i'm thankful you can use the info and there will be follow up videos on this subject. Next will probably be the induction probe for the RPM sensing along with a schematic of the pulse conditioning circuit. Thanks for checking out the video and for the comments

That’s cool stuff Brian!!! That is crazy how quick the EGT raises. What if you just induce on the wire for rpm? Great project

Hey Kyle, i'm concurrently working on a pulse conditioner circuit to do just that and a 3d printed mount for a hall effect sensor inside the Taylor mag housing. The hall effect will probably be done first. Thanks for checking it out
