I just bought a 2022 Mini Cooper JCW Convertible. I love it. It's so much fun. The suspension isn't any worse (I'd even say it rides better) than the Subaru BRZ I've had for 6 years. When I bought the BRZ, I almost bought a Miata, but I didn't like the way the interior was laid out (read cup holders) and hubs was cramped. This is just the absolutely most adorable and fun car I've been looking for.

BMW guy. Just sold my 20 M2 Comp for a 23 2 door JCW hardtop. Absolutely loving it. I missed owning a small hatch and it being a BMW made it perfect for me. Easy fix for the ride harshness is stick with the 17” wheel and 45 tire. Mine rides softer than my M2C not harsh ride at all and still as much fun to drive as my M2 was
@@squidwardshouse67 as someone who's owned an M2 comp and currently drives a manual CT4 Blackwing & ALSO owns a manual '22 JCW 2 door hardtop... In many ways I prefer the JCW. When you daily a car that has a max speed of 190 and a 0-60 of 4 seconds w/472hp, you realize that speed, power... It's nice, but I'm (hypothetically) already breaking the law with 3 more gears to go if I'm pushing the car. I literally NEVER get to use the car to it's fullest. The JCW tho, I can wring the crap out of it, get turbo flutter, rorty exhaust noise, crisp shifts, even some oversteer once you tighten the suspension. It's no RWD monster like the Blackwing or it's contemporaries, but that's not the point. Its a little stupid, and that's why I love it. If you want 90% of the fun of a Miata, but with more practicality, a 2 door JCW hardtop is the best idea. Exciting, quick (not fast), available with a manual, and has at least a modicum of practicality. The 2 door HARDTOP JCW is a big win in my book.
I had 2005 JCW. The first car I ever bought brand new. I ordered it from the factory with the JCW add on. It was a supercharged 1.6L with a wonderful whine while accelerating and tremendous pops and gurgles when you lifted off or downshifted. I loved that car. I didn’t love the ride. I think I rattled all my fillings loose. But still, for all out fun, it’s the best car that I’ve ever had.
I’ve driven the non convertible manual version of this car and hands down more fun than a GTI, Miata or Veloster. But will agree the fun per dollar ratio is a little high.

Th $600 suspension pkg you have on this is the sport suspension. That's why it's rough and tramlining. With the standard suspension, it's much more comfortable.

The comment about the rough ride...later you mention about being in the “Sport Mode”. The suspension does stiffen up in the Sports Mode v.s. Regular or Green Mode. Still hard no matter what but harsher in the Sports Mode.
As I’m sure the two of you already know, the harshness of the ride you’re experiencing with this particular car, is in fact because it is a convertible. Additional enhancements made to the strength and structural rigidity of the chassis are necessary to compensate for the lack of a solid roof. Unfortunately, it’s an inherent characteristic of all BMW built convertibles as far back as the mid 80’s. A non convertible, JCW equipped version of the same car does still have a firm suspension feel, but at least the risk of breaking a tooth over rough roads surfaces is greatly reduced 🤭🤕
