It also came standard with hydraulically-assisted steering and a Torsen limited-slip differential when mated with the 6-speed manual. With formidable power, a lightweight chassis, and all sorts of sports car goodies, will the Lotus Evora GT live up to Thomas and James’ expectations? Watch to find out what they think! Thing is, in normal mode the nannies are fully engaged (less in sport, even less in race and you can turn them off as well). So you really didn't get the complete meal, entirely missing dessert. The car is like a normally aspirated vehicle in that it continues to build power right up to redline, 7200 RPM in sport mode, never mind the 7K indicated redline. Also, that power is controlled by Lotus' brilliant traction management systems which in practice are transparent in normal operation, very difficult to feel even when engaged and intervening. So no dessert, and no soup for you either!
Your tester had a lot more issues than most of us have experienced, especially notable since the hand brake is simply not a reported problem which suggests a lot of handbrake turns. The A/C works properly even in humid southern temps. I live in Tennessee and the car's AC is fine in the worst weather, and it gets nasty hot here. I think your tester must have been pretty tired or beat and in need of some love after a life of being abused by journos. These cars are very reliable, extremely tough where it counts although the handmade nature does tend to make each one unique and they can require some shaking out. That's much less true of 400s and GTs than it was previously as those benefit most from all the improvements over the years. If you prefer PS4S, you can swap into them after your Cup 2s burn through in 2000 miles. 400s come with them as standard. PS4S is a lot more practical for road users and the feel is still sublime with limits that are beyond sanity on public roads.
No arguments about the dealer network. It's thin on the ground. It's much more akin to owning an exotic than a BMW or a Porsche is. That comes with baggage that doesn't always fit in the car. But as a true exotic to own, drive and enjoy, you'll struggle to do better for less.

The high production videos on the main channel are phenomenal, but there's something uniquely enjoyable about more lax content like this. I think it's how genuine they feel, not that the main ones don't either, but it's more like just car guys having a chat rather than a special showcase, and it's nice that you guys actually know what points to touch on and how. As an Evora GT owner, I can agree with some of the negative comments. Interior components are dated. I've had a couple of M3s and a Mustang GT350 in the past. Build quality is significantly better than the Mustang. The Evora handles way better than any of my previous cars. It can certainly be dallied. Motor and drive train is Toyota so you can buy most parts for 1/10 of Porsche parts. Brakes are AP so, pads a rotors are not off the charts expensive. Wouldn't drive it in the snow though.
In "RACE" mode, red line is 7200RPM. This also disables TC and ANTI-LOCK. So if you press the button, you're on your own.

The insurance premiums are based off of statistical data they have used to come up with the most cost effective way to establish profit in the insurance business. Owner of a 2020 Evora GT, and I've been daily'ing it for about a year now in LA. The clutch is super heavy and I thought I got in way over my head when I bought it, but over time I've grown to almost prefer it because of how predictable it is and how the travel is so logical. Yes, the AC goes out randomly, best thing to do is just to turn it off completely for a little bit and then run the fan only, then turn the AC back on and that seems to do the trick. I mean, when you get a Lotus, especially the hand-built ones (not the Emira) you have to take the shortcomings as a trade-off for a more special experience. I've grown to really love the car for its unpredictability, especially because it's never broken down on me or left me stranded. Also, the Toyota V6 is good assurance it'll run for a very very long time.
Plus, historically they never lose value really, if you take care of it it's never a bad idea financially for the long run

Great video guys! I have a 2020 GT. Came out of a 2007 GT3 RS, so it’s been an interesting adjustment. My pros and cons: love the unique/rare aspect. (You almost never see these.) I think it’s far more sexy and naught looking than most Porsches, especially Caymans. The brakes are amazing. (Saved me getting nailed by a distracted driver just the other day-and was easily controllable when locked up-and they feel great in general.) Love the analogue/quirkiness of it all. The steering is sublime. And it’s just damned good fun. The cons: with the Cali third cat, the sound is really compromised. (Having it removed in a week.) The rear end is wildly tail happy if you get playful with the power in a turn-so much so that it will gladly spin you all the way around. This I’ve really had to be careful with-whereas with the RS it was very predictable. (This is in Sport.) And lastly, the inconsistency for rev matching is just SO freaking annoying. Probably my biggest complaint. Lots of folks on LotusTalk talk about it, but no one seems to have solid answers for a fix. (And I’m quite solid with rev matching/heel/toe.) I’m taking it in to remove the third cat (GRPs has a great pipe bypass), gonna scope out the GRPs lowering cups (it’s a very minor lowering), adding the GRPs air intake, and then looking to see how it’s all feeling. After 8 Porsches, this thing is a fun beast to tango with. ❤️

I owned mine for over 5 years and it never failed to get me where I wanted to go. However, funny thing a year into ownership my fan speed module went kaput. (No air conditioner, or heat) I looked into having it fixed. But required disassembling the entire front end to reach the fan speed control module. And also as Jeremy said “the air conditioning is like having an asthmatic blowing through a straw.” I never had enough motivation to have it fixed.

Another great video…. I have hoped you guys would review the evora, I purchased one a year ago and have been wanting to see your opinion on the car. Mine is a daily driver 9 ish months out of the year, love it, the U turn incident was quite comical…. As others stated not sure why the immobilizer kicked in, you should only have to press start. It’s defiantly a bummer your test car wasn’t in A+ condition (typical small company Lotus I guess) for the review, my AC has always been great and my clutch is light. One of the biggest reasons I didn’t go the Porsche route is they are EVERYWHERE! This is my first sports car, it’s nice to not see a dozen or two relatives when out for a drive…. Lol ….. o yea, 3,160 LBS is what my GT weighs with a full tank of gas…. Sad that it’s considered light in todays world!

One of the quirks of the aluminum chassis is that it’s a heat sink and all the coolant flows through pipes in the side. On your thigh. In the exige, the flow of coolant was clockwise, which makes sense for right hand drive cars. For left hand drive, the left side wall of the chassis gets warm/hot on your clutch leg. Another interesting item was the AC, which would short out after heavy useage…because…the ac motor was designed to be installed upside down, with electric components on the bottom, which is exactly where AC moisture drips. I had my ac hard wired so it was only Off/Max. Totally worth it after boiling in an aluminum hot tub for 6 hours in summer traffic. 66k miles. Miss that car dearly. Beautiful joy to drive that would forgive all quirks. Beautiful suspension, seats, handling…
And everyone knows to permanently disable the immobilizer unless locking the car.

From everything you guys have said I'm surprised you guys haven't borrowed a McLaren 570S. Light. Hydraulic steering. High revs. Brilliant DCT. Plenty of HP and super fast. Some of the designers that used to work at Lotus now at Mclaren claim - 'The car that lotus wished they had built". Fun at any speed with skinnier tires. Kind of a mix of a Labrador and Greyhound - Grabrador?

When the sun was out in the fall or early spring because the HVAC was a joke. And I had no destination in mind because it had almost zero luggage space. I now, of course, own a Porsche 718 Cayman S because James and Thomas are right.

I got out into a Caymen R as a replacement and....yes, exactly what you said about Porsche, it was too easy and you had to push it way pretty far to get it to wake up. I would ask they compare the Evora GT to the new Emira in a full episode.
    That said there are a few things they missed;
The Evora GT revs to 7K in sport and race mode.
Don't move the AC temp knob off of full cold, ever.
Lower the fan speed, open the window when you get too cold.
When you engage the emergency brake, you may think it's fully engaged but there are usually a few more clicks left to engage.
The backseat is for storage and lower insurance rates not people.
Yes I own and love my Evora GT.
Its exhaust sound, steering / agility and great manual trans set the bar very high.
