I saw Doug's review while researching the GP3 and bought the GP3 this week. It's my first Mini Cooper vehicle. Love it. My only complaint is I wish the exhaust was more aggressive.
Doesn't it have a valved exhaust? If not, get the JCW valvetronic exhaust. It's a bit more of a high flowing exhaust with the valves closed, but with them open, it's basically straight piped.

Clutch biting/grabbing point feels too "economy" car. Modern ones have overly-intrusive rev hang + clutch delay valve. In comparison, anything Italian, German or British will have better overall gearbox feel.

Kind of silly cars since they don’t do anything well. The civics get like 35, I had one hybrid that got 60 though. That’s the only one I miss

I'm getting one, there really is no better car for the price that has such good handing and brakes from the factory that is UNIQUE. I don't want a Camaro SS, Challenger or Civic Type R (had one already) so the Mini JCW GP is the car for me.
Imagine being the guy doing the gapping... That would be me! I have an '10 MINI Cooper S Clubman that I have been building for the past year and a half. If you do it smart you can turn a MINI into an unbelievable sleeper. My slightly weight reduced MINI is FBO with a bigger upgraded BorgWarner AirWerks SX K03 turbo. I obliterate most cars in my class, but the real fun is getting a win against the bigger V8s! I do not gap them but I do usually win by a car or a half a car. It's crazy because I did not build my car for straight lines. It's built "for the curves" and it was really surprising when I learned that my car was actually capable of taking down $80,000 BMWs. The insane 60-120mph pick up was not expected. The guys at GermanTech Motorsports (the shop who helped me with my build) were also surprised. It has not been easy though and building the car has been a complete pain in the butt overcoming all of the "set backs" that come with building a MINI. There are sensors for sensors and some of the engineering is completely sideways. It is the most fun car that I have ever built. What's insane is that I haven't even touched the internals yet. Thats where the real fun is going to start!

A friend of mine (he owns a Lamborghini Huracan actually and a Mazda 3 btw) drove it before I started to modify it. His reactions were like: WTH is this?! It’s amazing to drive! I know why you actually love your car and it feels faster than MINI says about its specs. It doesn’t have a lot of mods (only APR Repro Stage 1 and the JCW Pro Exhaust) but it feels pretty good.
Those panels are absurd. First off they look like a nightmare to clean behind, second it looks very inviting for someone to come up and start yanking on them.

I used to drive an 04 Mini Cooper S, and my god that was a fun car. I've driven Velosters and civics, but I've never had as much fun in a front wheel drive car as I did in that mini
I have a 2003 R50 Cooper with only 21,000 miles. I finally starting driving it more and my old pick-up truck less. It handles and shifts (Midland 5-speed) very well and is fun to drive, I never notice it needing more power, 112 HP is fine with me....
'Designer' This car is meant to be a mini! It's huge - imagine if they made a new mini in the same shape as the classic mini, slightly upscaled but keeping the general shape of the original Too bad they ruined it instead

Because this car is the king of handling , it is much faster around a track than the others , that’s the difference and the sacrifice of having no back seat with all that chassis bracing. This is the kind of Mini for a person who has another one already for daily driving and this is the weekend track star.
I dont care for hot hatches but i really want this. It looks like a little race car. Ive never owned or wanted to own a mini cooper until i saw this one.
I love it. Does it make sense as a daily driver? No. Is it ridiculous? Yes! Will be much more exclusive in years to come than its rivals and will dominate on a twisty road.
The do it intentionally so the car looks like a toycar/RC car. I used to sell MINI's in Iceland and that was what they said when they were teaching us about the brand.
Agree with all. "To avoid hitting the antenna" isn't the primary reasoning for this design decision. It may have been the catalyst, it may have been an excuse, but they could have *EASILY* chosen to just tweak the antenna and put a standard "all the way across" wing. They spent enough on custom parts for this, they could have sprung for a "sharkfin only" antenna (like is on many BMW models.) It was absolutely a stylistic choice more than anything else.

My issue with it is the fact that it's $30k above my price range. And Civic Type R just seems better in nearly every way to me. its practical, same power, manual, reliable, and $10k cheaper.
No the top of the car is the same piece that’s on a regular mini if they moved the antenna they would have to make a new top panel for the car and a spoiler instead of just using panels that they already have. If they just make a spoiler that goes around the antenna they just have to make a spoiler.
Really hard to believe they did this, surely knowing it would catch leaves, water, salt, and grime. Though I think most people who pay $46k for a car that really elevates form over function like this don't care about longevity.

I thought the biggest thing wrong with that sentence was the $50,000. I had a r53 jcw, that car was a lot of fun. I'm sure this one is as well, I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on it but I'm a fan of analog gauges and manual transmissions. The old school petrol head in me doesn't care for all the digital gauges and slush boxes. I get they are quicker shifts but I like being connected to the car.
I have a 2016 mini and I wish I could afford to upgrade to this thing.... once you drive a mini and feel for its amazing handling, visibility and overall acceleration you cant go back. I do see how the torq steer can be am issue though seeing that I have this same issue with my mini even though its way less powerful

@12:01 which is called an upper rear sway bar. This reduces both body roll on turns and stiffens all the pillars in the car where it's lined at. Anyone that knows about cars, Trucks, and SUVs knows what that is.
Cars in the 80’s had torque steer and turbo lag and I loved them . It took skill and Concentration to drive them smoothly . I would love a quirky Saab 900 Turbo XPG you should review one ,fun cars
They did the aerofoils over the wheels, rather than widen the body, because everything JCW does is "bolt on." This means JCW designs all the changes, catalogs all the parts, and sends them to their plant for installation. BMW/Mini doesn't make any changes to the vehicle, prior to the JCW modifications.
You'd be able to buy new panels from Mini as long as you have the VIN. (that's what they've done with previous GP models at least) I can't imagine they'd be cheap though.
I want to love it, but just a few too many negs. I don’t like the blue-ish gray color. The interior is monochromatically gray. The cargo area looks unfinished. And of course, automatic only. All that said, it’s probably the most special, unique, and exclusive enthusiast car under $50k.
If I was going to spend $50k on a car. I'd just go get a used Hellcat or C7 vette. Maybe just maybe a Viper, or a Ferrari 360, or a Aston Martin Vantage,

I don't think it was an afterthought and honestly I really like it. It gives the car a very unique look and fits the styling of the car in general. The fenders are for example as square and unusual as the wheels.

As you say and I hear a lot of people describe it, they feel like a Go kart to drive. I love driving it through country lanes and roads here - good fun.. but yeah, needs a manual 100%

They look really nice in person and less 'over the top' than I expected. Has yours had an issues with the oil pump for the supercharger? If my memory is right, the 04 - 06 models all have issues.

Nearly every other I see has the silver wheels. I'm pretty sure the white and black 7 spoke wheels only came on the pepper and salt optioned cars back then.

My dad had a 1985 XR4Ti (Canadian model) with the big rear wing. It was heavy, but went like stink. Electronics were terrible, always showed ice on the sunroof in the middle of summer.
It is literally just another JCW with a GP "body kit" and I wrote body kit to emphasize just how badly it was done. A Regular Cooper S or JCW with a tune and E85 will eclipse 300hp easy.
@@willteeyang no. BMW stopped using 35i 4 years ago for their current line up. It's 40i now and this engine isn't in all 40i cars, its in one 40i model (BMW X1). (They might go back to 35i but not for another year or two) The engine is a B48, it's a new generation engine from BMW and its what they use on almost all their lower trim models.
Maybe they're two Crevier employees who've already had a go and already know they secretly don't like a stripped down racer mini that still has silly led lighting round the infotainment screen, and big flat stuck on plastic panels instead of fenders, and the cheap bee sting antenna around which the wing was designed??
philliesphn15 what car doesn't have twice the power for the top model? Doug really had no idea sometimes... Is probably because US markets don't get the sub 200hp models but start with the 300hp v6 as the base model. A 520d has 190hp. M5 has 600.

I used to drive an 04 Mini Cooper S, and my god that was a fun car. I've driven Velosters and civics, but I've never had as much fun in a front wheel drive car as I did in that mini
I have a 2003 R50 Cooper with only 21,000 miles. I finally starting driving it more and my old pick-up truck less. It handles and shifts (Midland 5-speed) very well and is fun to drive, I never notice it needing more power, 112 HP is fine with me....
I drive a 2013 R55 JCW clubman…after 4 years, I still have a blast flinging it through the corners. The car is such a sleeper.
minis are so fun cuz they really do handle like a go cart, they feel so much faster cuz of how low and small they are

Because this car is the king of handling , it is much faster around a track than the others , that’s the difference and the sacrifice of having no back seat with all that chassis bracing. This is the kind of Mini for a person who has another one already for daily driving and this is the weekend track star.
I dont care for hot hatches but i really want this. It looks like a little race car. Ive never owned or wanted to own a mini cooper until i saw this one.
I love it. Does it make sense as a daily driver? No. Is it ridiculous? Yes! Will be much more exclusive in years to come than its rivals and will dominate on a twisty road.

The GP has the same roof as the normal Mini Cooper, so it’s easier to fit the Wing instead of the roof.
The do it intentionally so the car looks like a toycar/RC car. I used to sell MINI's in Iceland and that was what they said when they were teaching us about the brand.
Agree with all. "To avoid hitting the antenna" isn't the primary reasoning for this design decision. It may have been the catalyst, it may have been an excuse, but they could have *EASILY* chosen to just tweak the antenna and put a standard "all the way across" wing. They spent enough on custom parts for this, they could have sprung for a "sharkfin only" antenna (like is on many BMW models.)
It was absolutely a stylistic choice more than anything else.

Racingboom The Pleb same here, I daily a Mini Cooper S and i refuse to buy any future cars with an auto thanks to the 6mt in the mini. Not even hard to live with everyday people are just lazy and complain. It’s one less thing to break anyway.
I’ve only owned 2 AT cars ever. All of my other vehicles have been MT. It’s getting harder and harder to find them.

My issue with it is the fact that it's $30k above my price range. And Civic Type R just seems better in nearly every way to me. its practical, same power, manual, reliable, and $10k cheaper.

No the top of the car is the same piece that’s on a regular mini if they moved the antenna they would have to make a new top panel for the car and a spoiler instead of just using panels that they already have. If they just make a spoiler that goes around the antenna they just have to make a spoiler.
The wing needs to be stiffened in the center anyway.

Really hard to believe they did this, surely knowing it would catch leaves, water, salt, and grime. Though I think most people who pay $46k for a car that really elevates form over function like this don't care about longevity.

I thought the biggest thing wrong with that sentence was the $50,000. I had a r53 jcw, that car was a lot of fun. I'm sure this one is as well, I personally wouldn't spend that kind of money on it but I'm a fan of analog gauges and manual transmissions. The old school petrol head in me doesn't care for all the digital gauges and slush boxes. I get they are quicker shifts but I like being connected to the car.

I have a 2016 mini and I wish I could afford to upgrade to this thing.... once you drive a mini and feel for its amazing handling, visibility and overall acceleration you cant go back. I do see how the torq steer can be am issue though seeing that I have this same issue with my mini even though its way less powerful

Those wheel arch panels look like the temporary packaging that you’re supposed to take off when you get a new washing machine.
They did the aerofoils over the wheels, rather than widen the body, because everything JCW does is "bolt on." This means JCW designs all the changes, catalogs all the parts, and sends them to their plant for installation. BMW/Mini doesn't make any changes to the vehicle, prior to the JCW modifications.

I want to love it, but just a few too many negs. I don’t like the blue-ish gray color. The interior is monochromatically gray. The cargo area looks unfinished. And of course, automatic only.
All that said, it’s probably the most special, unique, and exclusive enthusiast car under $50k.
If I was going to spend $50k on a car. I'd just go get a used Hellcat or C7 vette. Maybe just maybe a Viper, or a Ferrari 360, or a Aston Martin Vantage,

I don't think it was an afterthought and honestly I really like it. It gives the car a very unique look and fits the styling of the car in general. The fenders are for example as square and unusual as the wheels.

BBROPHOTO hahaha sounds sick man! Mines racing green too, but with black top and wheels, also got the dark interior. I used to own an 09 with the turbo and it was a lil faster, but I had to go back to the supercharged one, so much more fun to drive!

My GF drives one of the new Minis, they feel pretty damn spicy compared to my one haha. I actually saw one of these GP models today just up the road parked. They look really nice in person and less 'over the top' than I expected.
Has yours had an issues with the oil pump for the supercharger? If my memory is right, the 04 - 06 models all have issues.
@@mizaqenyad4269 On another note, I've found the white 7 spoke (I think) wheels I have to be quite rare. I've only seen one other 03 Mini with them and that happened to be yesterday! hah. Nearly every other I see has the silver wheels.
I'm pretty sure the white and black 7 spoke wheels only came on the pepper and salt optioned cars back then.

My dad had a 1985 XR4Ti (Canadian model) with the big rear wing. It was heavy, but went like stink. Electronics were terrible, always showed ice on the sunroof in the middle of summer.

The XR4TI wasn't a cosworth. It had the same 2.3 turbo that was in the mustang svo and thunder bird turbo coupe.

It is literally just another JCW with a GP "body kit" and I wrote body kit to emphasize just how badly it was done. A Regular Cooper S or JCW with a tune and E85 will eclipse 300hp easy.
It has a turbo, and some tune.

@@willteeyang no. BMW stopped using 35i 4 years ago for their current line up. It's 40i now and this engine isn't in all 40i cars, its in one 40i model (BMW X1). (They might go back to 35i but not for another year or two) The engine is a B48, it's a new generation engine from BMW and its what they use on almost all their lower trim models.

philliesphn15 what car doesn't have twice the power for the top model? Doug really had no idea sometimes... Is probably because US markets don't get the sub 200hp models but start with the 300hp v6 as the base model. A 520d has 190hp. M5 has 600.
