    In This Video We Will Talk About:
    Don't feel yourself like a little guy in from of these big plugins manufacturers. We will bust their funny mistakes and become an audio engineers of the next level. Their mistake will include: not understanding of equilateral triangle and simple mathematics (I graduated from the elite physics-maths lyceum and an university where every loser knows these principles), not understanding of what legendary Bill Putnam created for the most famous compressor of all time 1176 by his own employees of Universal Audio, and Acustica Audio which is supposed to be based on Impulses Response technology. Also we will check the famous SSL Master Bus Compressor how Softube didn't know its maim principle . Even SSL lead support guy confirms I'm right. Also I'm gonna mention a big mistakes in Plugin Alliance Brainworx SSL Console SSL 4000E and Kirchhoff EQ. The lest one is a very concerning plugin where a lot of new comers to Audio Engineering would rather believe in their website statements than in the real measurements which proves it's have fake curves.

      btw Waves admit my point that it was a mistake in the Doubler 2: Waves' newer plugin M360Manager and they set up 30 degrees properly there and even say in the manual "Speaker angles calibration is required for setting internal rotation and width algorithms to perform precisely per the default ±30° for L and R speakers". So Waves admit my point: assets.wavescdn.com/pdf/plugins/m360-surround.pdf

    Thank you very much Andrew! That is really great video about those plugin makers (liars) ! The instruction is very simple for them: when they dont know what to sale - just make a random plugin with a legendary name, slightly change the parametrs and try to sale it under the legendary name! This channel only tells the truth about sound engineering!

    comment this video if you have at least some respect for the effort. It took me 20 years to get to the level of understanding all these things. It's not one of of those standard videos where a guy says "Oh, it's so good, it's so good" while not providing any real details about the plugins. It's in depth analysis.

    Having a long attack on an 1176 emulation is totally crazy to me. I'm convinced half of these "vintage emulations" are just old plugins repackaged with a new interface every couple of years. "Hey we'll make it look like a Fairchild and sell millions!"

    If you people could actually understand the dark side of all these emulations, it would be clear that what these so-called companies aren't actually doing mistakes. Rather it's a deliberate doing of what is blunder.
    It's not that they aren't aware of. But, just to make us spend our hard earned money on these useless emulations.
    Very few people have the eye and knowledge to see beyond these plugin gimmicks. Props to Andrew for such illumating content.

    This level of understanding is so rare in the audio production world. There’s clearly a great deal of confusion between the engineering of these plugins and the hype that their marketing departments feel compelled to spin to the public. Thanks for another great video Andrew and for your quest to keep the audio world honest 🙏

    Haha, cool video, man) Yes, almost everything is about marketing in this world. By the way, I’ve also had a countless times, when I found some mistakes in plugins, don’t remember them now, maybe I should make a list for the future. Well, speaking about categories, we can see:
    - unmatched parameters(gear vs plugin)
    - saturation on plugins even nowadays still does not sound, like in a real gear, even on UAD Unison(but companies like to put noodles on your ears, speaking about how cool their plugins are. No they don’t)
    - A slight volume increase in the every preset, and of course, in default one - oh my, it’s probably the biggest trick to get money from beginners)))
    Well, speaking about result you tend to get, having a knowledge - you can get it almost on anything(having a knowledge), but it’s another story. One thing I found so far - saturation should be done during tracking in analog domain, that’s why I still buy preamps for studio. My pink dream is of course a total OTB setup, or at least some hybrid, with a 12-15k$ master chain, but not for now, there are no clients, ready to pay extra for this kind of investment, and of course - war..
    By the way, привіт зі Львову, земляче ;)

    Hello one more time. As you know, working with sound can be quite dangerous to hearing, especially the equalisation, working with equalisers for, say, one hour. The so-called listening fatigue, etc. As a professional sound engineer, what do you do to eliminate the possibility of hearing damage? What are your day-to-day steps and rules that you follow to protect the ears?

    Thanks for all the knowledge you share in your videos.
    Pardon my ignorance but I’m not understanding your explanation about the Waves Doubler. If the direction is 45 degrees, and the delays are different on both sides. How does that change the angle from 45 to 30 degrees? In theory, the audio is going to get thrown from a 45 degree angle but just at different times based on your delay settings.
    Side note, I recently found an issue between the UAD native and Apollo version of the Avalon channel strip and reported it to them. Basically, their manual says the SC link only works in stereo. When I loaded the UAD-2 version of the plugin in mono, the light is on by default. When I load the native version, the light cannot be turned on. I just took an update yesterday so I haven’t checked to see if they fixed this yet but I reported this almost a month ago.

    What is muddy? how to fix a muddy mix or muddiness in a single element in a song, these is one of those things no one can explain really well, is it when a sound is deep and sustain?
    Resonance is clear, a sharp sound that sounds harsh and usually sound louder even that the adjacent frequencies, usually a high pitch sound, flute like sound, or like a whistle; you see how well I explained. but these people would use complex words to explain something complex or maybe people make it complex.
    Some you make sound with your mouth to demonstrate what you trying to convey, when I saw you did that I knew this is a perfect teacher, other would be shamed to make sound with their like oommph, or tsss etc they will use long statement to describe they can just phonate with their mouth.

    I'm confused by your critique of the Volt 276. It shows right there on your screen that there is a FAST mode on the compressor that gives 30 micros attach and 35ms release. This seems pretty 1176 to me, at least for this setting. Th VOX setting looks a lot like the parameters for an LA2A, so I'm not sure what's up with the critique really. Does it have an exact 1176? Nope. But I don't think that's what they shooting for with the three settings. Please clarify.

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was talking about nonsense presets for Vox and GTR. Not for Fast preset. LA2A has nothing to do with 1176 because it has 10ms attack and two stages of opposite logariphmic curve VS exponential curve. Conclustion: Vox and GTR settings doesn't give you 1176 beheviour. I clearly explained everything in the video. Hers's the bonus for you: 1176 has a tone, this tone comes from a large transformer the size of which is even bigger than Volt itself probably. Volt 76 is much dirtier with more compression. It was commonly known on the month when it was released. Also, how do you know if the release curve bend is the same if you don't know that LA2A is completely different type in comparison to 1176? Seems like you think the difference between 1176 and LA2A is just settings. Also, 6:1 is not 4:1 and it's not 8:1. Also do we really know if it's the same width of the soft knee? Did you measure it somehow? Also do you see I have a real Universal Audio 1176, another 1176 and a real LA2A behind me? I compared them side by side with Volt. Also I have like 10-15 1176 plugins and 10-15 LA2A plugins from different manufacturers. If you know anybody in the world who can know those things and especially have ears to notice those ears is me. And of course nobody spend years, nights, days, and the whole life on those tests like me. Because I'm a psycho.

    About TRIANGLE:
    Open this comment with "read more" and find three links and even Waves themselves admiting I'm right:
    1) Waves' newer plugin M360Manager and they set up 30 degrees properly there and even say in the manual "Speaker angles calibration is required for setting internal rotation and width algorithms to perform precisely per the default ±30° for L and R speakers". So Waves admit my point: assets.wavescdn.com/pdf/plugins/m360-surround.pdf
    2) Here's some extra explanation and two pictures: Every total beginner knows that the monitors should stay in an Equilateral triangle.
    Waves drew a wrong picture. They created longer horizonal line than other two side of the triangle. If you check any maths book you can find out that an Equilateral triangle is 180 degrees. 60 per angle. 60/2 = 30. 97% likes on this video. 97% knows maths.
    In Dolby Surround systems or stereo systems engineers always use a circle and with 2 radiuses and equal distance on each side of the trianlge you will get a perfect Equilateral triangle. Waves simply drew the tringle incorrectly making it not Equilateral. So the horizonal line is longer and based on their WRONG picture the angle is 90/2=45 while all other plugins/systems, monitor manufacturers do it right: with Equilateral triangle and 30 degrees to the left from the bottom corner.
    Look at the Picture: www.cnet.com/a/img/resize/d5f2e77ad142559c12beeac143308f1947c3080d/hub/2011/11/09/25e6da56-cbf2-11e2-9a4a-0291187b029a/speakers-main.jpg?auto=webp&width=1200

      Yes you are right about the triangle. But the triangle is on top of a semi circle which makes from 180 degrees from one end to the other. The 2 sides of the triangle and middle line cut the semi-circle into 4 equal parts making them 45 degrees each.

    • @AndrewZeleno1
      @AndrewZeleno1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm gonna reply one last time :) Every total beginner knows YOU ALWAYS put the sources of the sound/monitors in an Equilateral triangle. What Waves drew on the plugin is BS and it never should look like this on a plugin. Just because of it looks like 90 degrees on the bottom doesn't mean it should be like this. This is a visual mistake and the values on the plugin should be 30 and 30 and the triangle is ALWAYS an Equilateral triangle. Not the one which they drew on the plugin with the longer horizontal side of the triangle.

I learned a lot by watching this video about things I never even would have thought about before. So if plugin manufacturers don’t reflect or respect basic engineering “rules” (even in their graphic interfaces) then many beginners, like me, are likely to set up their own equipment incorrectly, not knowing any different, until someone like Andrew points out their mistake. How else are we to learn?
