The ProQ3. Been using the proq's for about 10 years. Such an incredible utility plugin. If I need massive amounts of clarity, I like sidechaining a dynamic band to another sound that needs more room. It's a bit more subtle sidechaining just that frequency bans instead of the whole sound.
i use the waves scheps 73 . i definintly have it first on my summed vocal chain. the set frequencies are really just a safe bet for all vocal perfomances. i do feel like the UA emulation has a little more bite than the waves version. and i really want to try it . i just hear that ua software doesnt work well with the windows ecosystem. and i will NEVER do my production work on MAC
Personally I just swapped from another manufacturer into using mostly UA plugins for colour, the 1073 being my favourite. I've head no problems at all so far working on PC. UA Spark is available for a 14 day trial so you can always test how it works for you.
The interiors is great if you do a lot of video/film post production where you need your sound to sound like it’s in a different space like a room next door or backstage etc. pretty cool!
sry, you can't buy Neve 1073 without the hardware: apollo or satellite. I even can't buy the Neve summing, although the testversion ist currently running on my LUNA-Daw.
It is uncanny how much he actually speaks like Dave Grohl. Like they're brothers or something. Maybe that's why they've worked so much together on so many great records. Darrell is the dude.
I didn't even get thru 2 minutes of this video. Here's the thing...People download a virtual preamp and now they believe they own a real Neve pre. I've made that mistake plenty of times. And it's not like you can re-sell those plug-ins. It's just a bunch of fake virtual files that bog down your PC. I ended up investing into hardware signal processors and external FX and regret not doing that from the start instead of spending hundreds of dollars on phony plug-ins that "emulate a console" or "emulate a famous reverb room at Abbey Road or Sound City." That's just the recording industry saying: Download this and you'll have a pro studio in your bedroom.
Cool if you have the space. Unfortunately on sales like Black Friday plugins become so cheap it’s silly not to have them in your arsenal. I’m looking at more hardware these days but you can’t takeaway plugins uses and how they improve the perception of a signal.
You can do so much with plugins it just takes some creativity. You’re obviously going to have to find your harmonics and non-linearities in ways that don’t sacrifice quality or introduce digital artifacts
That's a fair assessment. Though, I think plugins generally fall flat on saturation and compression. Plugin reverbs and eq's are still very useful as the proq3 gets used constantly. All that being said, the UAD 1073/84 are about as close as you can get to the real thing. I think where they fart out is when driven. Gets to noisy when pushed.
yeah everyone should go out and buy a $100k Neve Console, $50k plate Reverb, $50k Fairchild, and more. No hardware clones please. Oh and no reissues for the guitars, you gotta use the vintage59 Les Paul (that's another $500K) and pre-CBS Fenders. How unhelpful is this comment? you're missing the point big time with your arrogance!
Hi @tortillaman2491Darrel is not saying that at all! He records in 'old school' studios, however like nearly every major mixer does now, he mixes in the box and these are his preferred tools!
Not sure why you keep making videos like this. How many videos do we need where a guy tells us to boost 12k on a 1073 plugin? New engineers should be using their ears and whatever tools they have to actually learn the craft, experienced engineers are already using their ears and the tools they like. Who is this for exactly??
@@magnuslervikmusic there’s nothing to absorb here, it’s an advertisement for plugins with some “tips” that are completely useless if you’re a beginner and even more useless if you’re a working engineer. If this ad inspires you I feel bad for you.
@@magnuslervikmusicno. I’m an audio professional and I make it my business to stay aware of the pro audio content that’s out there. I’m going to call bullshit where I see it.
@poorlittlemonkey it doesn't matter if you're a professional or not, you're definitely not everybody's BS police. And to say what is right and wrong to be inspired by makes it very clear you have totally misunderstood what inspiration is - its individual and therefore can trigger people differently. If this this video inspires someone, isn't that a good thing? And if it makes someone buy one of these plugins, isnt that also a good thing? plugins brands needs all the help they can get these days (I'm also a developer). So if you want to make all this into something negative, that's your choice!

I think I should try DDMF's Magic Death Eye, just because it's the one I don't know at all
Thanks for the suggestion!@@micmarkno
Definitely the Magic Death Eye. Bought it before the video was over. I already own and agree 100% with Darrell’s assessment of the other four.
1073 supremacy! I use those Golden age 73 knockoffs in my 500 lunchbox and I just love how it sounds.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
Who wins the Grammy?
A- The Artist
B- The Producer
C- The Sound Engineer
D- The Plugins
*Lets Go!*
It depends on the category. Artist almost always, Producer and engineer in album of the year etc. Darrell has 10 because of album of the year etc.

Some great plugins there, Thanks Darrel and big thanks to the PLAP team

Love the 1073. I use it as vocal colouring EQ on all recordings. I really think that the set frequencies give character.
Thanks ever so much

I don't have any experience with UA on Windows unfortunately@@OlliWitta3so I can't comment!

I always learn great tips from Darrell! Adding this to my playlist of videos to watch while practicing mixing. Happy holidays PLAP!

Me too! Great guy

Thanks ever so much!
Everytime I’m trying out plugins or learning differences between plugins. I listen to the same thing over and over and over again…so no worries 😅
Haha that’s the way it is!
I learned more in this little tutorial than in some courses
Wow! Thanks ever so much
Is the 1084 the same preamp?
I like this guy , hes always cool to watch 👌

Very enlightening. Thanx. Is this room much treated? I see a couple of sound panels at the rear.

The low end freq is 60 on real 1073 or plugs ! Not 80 as Darrell's telling it a couole of times...Good Part of why this low shelf's so good...
