xbox really hit it's peak when the ps3 came out for nearly double the 360's cost, it was slated as the more affordable and better alternative at the time, but microsoft had to get too ballsy and full of themselves, resulting in stuff like the xbox one and kinect really dragging them down in the long run. shame to see such a fall from grace
And Xbox has continued to make the same mistakes ever since. Sony managed to redeem the PS3 and Nintendo moved past the Wii U's failure. Xbox Series is at the place as the XB1.
As a Xbox consumer since Christmas Day of 2015 and getting the Xbox 360 on that day and then got the Xbox One in June 2019 and then the Xbox One X in December 2019 and finally got the Xbox Series X in June 2023 I loved the Xbox brand. But I've been moving forward towards PC Gaming and playing with my Steam Deck Oled and also moving forward towards VR Gaming with The Meta Quest 3 I'm getting soon from Amazon. It's truly sad to see Xbox dying and might end up like Sega.
I feel like Microsoft doesn't really care about the idea of an Xbox anymore, especially with the explosion of PC gaming. I mean if they did care, they had a funny way of showing it. I was actually gonna buy an Xbox series console because I liked a lot of what they did compared to the PS5 at launch, but then they got scalped so hard at launch that I couldn't find one until after I lost my job a couple years later. It seems to me like they're trying to get out of the hardware market, like they're still following Sega's example to this day
I am convinced Microsoft sees cloud streaming and 3rd party publishing as the future of Xbox. It's really clear that being a hardware manufacturer isn't working for Xbox, and they need to recoup $70B (something they would take many years to achieve using the same business strategy Xbox has been using)
They don't *need* to care. Quite the opposite in fact, they could be pulling a Crystal Pepsi and try to "kill" this market, and bring everything back to the "PC" (ie. Microsoft Windows) gaming umbrella. They've always wanted to have some form of universal Windows box in people's living rooms, and they've had a few trojan horses in the market to try and achieve that vision already. At some point they'll just want people to buy a Windows-style Macmini / AppleTV and just use online services all the time, including gaming.
@@miles-prower Windows id slowly but steadily losing its market share in PC gaming. Every year Linux gets more popular with Steam Deck being entry point.
I bought a Series S (with store points) and the only reason I keep it is for 360 games. I tried Game Pass a couple times and was unimpressed. IMO a Steam Deck is a better purchase, despite being much weaker than either Xbox.
I feel like Microsoft dropping the ball last generation is still hurting them. Both the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 don’t have many exclusives, but Sony has the PS4 library to help at least. Both companies are in trouble if Nintendo doesn’t drop the ball with the next Switch (which would be hard considering the current Switch has sold almost as many units as the PS4 and Xbox One combined)
This video was okay but few key details were missing, mainly Microsoft entering the console market. The Xbox was born due in part of Home Consoles pulling gamers off of the PC & Windows Gaming in the 90s. The Original Xbox was also a prototype Dreamcast that Sega passed on. Microsoft also partnered with Sega with the Dreamcast with the console using Windows CE which unfortunately opened the door for privacy on the console ultimately tanking Sega. Sega also made a deal to give Microsoft seven exclusives for the Xbox which based off of the Dreamcast hardware & software. Some believe that Microsoft sabotage Sega as some of their executives ultimately working at Microsoft. As for the 360 Microsoft convinced the Japanese Publishers that "Keeping their games on PlayStation & Nintendo would not sell in the West" as the cost of development went up in the 6th gen. Microsoft also spent millions pulling exclusives off PlayStation such as Ace Combat, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, and many more etc.
It wasn’t actually a solder issue as I believed back then too. The nand program had the fan setting like 80c before it kicked onto high. That’s what’s nice about the rgh3 with dash launch. You can set the target temperature. Mine cruises at a max of 50c . Anyways the original program let the board get way to hot, warp , then cracked the gpu solder. The x clamp is a very good design actually.
From what I've heard from RIP FELIX, the glass transition temperature of the underfill is ~70c, so keeping it below that COULD increase the life but according to him the results are inconclusive iirc. Though I'd still do it, if I had a launch model.
Xbox got extremely lucky with Microsoft buying Bungie and again with Sony messing up E3 2006. The self-inflicted Ls they've taken since the Xbone leads me to think they never knew what they were doing in the first place
It feels like Xbox's issues have always laid with its leadership making dumb decisions and not learning from them. Sony and Nintendo tend to learn from their mistakes. Xbox is currently making the same mistakes they did last generation.
Sony doesn't learn, I've been with them since day 1, believe me. They simply know how to mask it with the failures of others. They did the price hike with the PS3 and hid it behind the backlash of the Red Ring of Death lawsuit (even though the Yellow Light of Death also happened, the world forgot this en masse due to Sony's ability to cover up their failings behind others) The price hike thing they've done before, are doing now and will do so again if we lose Xbox and all competition with PlayStation. Nintendo learns, but they're not trying to compete anymore so it's good for us who enjoy the games on their platforms and on PC, but anyone who wants a console where most AAA publishers will go or be bought into exclusivity with, you'll only have Sony OR your life savings. And you only have so many kidneys before you have to... acquire that kind of money another way.
