Well I did not expect to be listening to this group again in 2021, came across them by accident as a young teenager and thought I was the only one in the world to have found them at my age. A group I had long forgot about even after wearing out several tape cassette albums as life takes over. Glad to have found some videos of them and happy to be listening to them once again.

I kid you not, I've just been thinking about the same thing, just landed on the video by accident, then I remembered the first time I heard them, it was a cassette of their album. I thought to myself, what the heck was this!
We were into George Benson, Earl Klugh, Jonathan Butler and Bob James at the time.
Me and my Keyboardist were the only ones in school fascinated enough to listen to the tape over and over. This was in 1991.
      Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤

That's so true. I remember attending those shows like that decades ago. Now, I really don't like the idea of so many people standing in front of me, moving to the music and pointing their mobile phones above their heads towards the stage in an effort to get a good frame with that darn light beaming out from the displays. What an eye sore! Does anybody know if it's actually illegal to record live concerts and post them on social media? Or has that gone out the window?

I think Kim might agree this wasn't his best bass solo on his own tune (Bob Goes to the store). I saw him on this tour and he tore the solo in the tune to shreds. He's terrific, but everyone can't have a 110% night every night I guess. Except that Richie Morales man, that guy's a machine!

Many years after he was replaced enjoying the rippingtons I ran into Kim Stone he was sitting in with jazz piano great Rob Mullins at a small bar restaurant in Huntington Beach... One of those piano players who had the chops to spare but wasn't in the right place or the right time was always playing to about 50 to 100 people.anyway Kim Stone set in and we talked about his spyro-gyra days he called Tom Schuman the best-kept secret in jazz and music in general. I told him his bass work on the AAA live version of Conversations what is his best work--where he was playing the hundred-year-old stand up bass..."Yeah...man! We were FLYING 3 feet off the ground on that one!" I love seeing SPYRO more than a few nights on the same tour cuz the song setlist might remain pretty much the same but their solos were always very different Kim Stone was going for something a little different every night. People tell me J a y Beckenstein doesn't have it anymore well considering he's 70 now and he was onl 37 here I'd say Jay still has it and then some! It's interesting how Julio has refined his style over the years almost becoming a minimalist guitar player on purpose as opposed to the way he played back in the 80s and 90s. He has refined his sound in his playing now he doesn't have so much a Santana sound as more of a Larry Carlton or Lee Rittenour--not really there sound it's still Julio's sound but closer to that type of sound and Julio seems to be saying what he needs to say during his solos with a lot less notes, still able to fly but often doing that I can say more in OneNote than other guitar players can say in a thousand type thing.

thank you very much. The more I listened to Julio Fernandez, the more I missed Chet Catallo in those days. I like Fernandez' compositions, but disliked his rock approach. Catallo's sound and songs were much more "Spyro like" for my taste.

I Love Juilo but I Agree with You However we can't forget that Julio Wrote some Great Tunes as Well that are Great Tunes for SG like "Para Ti Latino" from the Fast Forward Album. Catallo in the Early part of SG was very Clean in His Sound Julio when he can Is Clean as well and Remember Spyro Gyra in Many ways Were a "Fusion" Group as well as a "Smooth" Jazz Group in essence!!! I agree with you from that Perspective and as a Die Hard SG Fan I Understand!!!!

agree, doeni2....IMO, jULIO IS DEFINITELY EXCELLENT MUSICIAN, but when he does solos (again, this is my attitude) I miss "a bit outside fusion soloing" because of fact Jay and Tom and Scott, also, they do solos that sometimes a simple Dm7/G7 sounds outworld-ish. Azzolina is also crazy.....Anyway, The guys make their fans cheerfull, always good vibes in very much difficult times for humankind!!!!! p.s. Dave, we all miss you!!!!!

The original band is much better then the current band when they had a vibrone player and more percussion as in congos. Sucks groups downsize over the years
