Tom Schuman is one of the most underrated jazz keyboardists of all time - his timing is impeccable, he has "his own sound", his improvising is very fluent and inspired ... i just don't get it why we don't see him mentioned more often.
Well said. I have the luck to call him my friend and i always, ALWAYS tell that to him. Apart of being an awsome human being he's such a great performer and composer. He's the reason i play piano. awesome concert, you could rename it "SpyroGyra: The Progressive Side" ..... one thing was never in doubt about this band (in more than 40 years, that's like the McCartney, Santana or Claptons of "Cool Jazz" !!! ..) and in all of their line-ups and styles/trends, THEY COULD PLAY THEIR ASSESS OFF !!
Surfen over het internet leverde mij wederom een zeer interessant resultaat op. Spyro Gyra, een werkelijk sublieme bezetting van top musici !! Deze opnames uit 2003 van het NSJazz Festival (waarvoor nog hartelijk dank). Maar anno 2016 nog steeds dé fusion-jazz jongens from the USA. Genieten.

Amazing players and band!!! Jay Beckstein has continuously managed to keep to this band current with amazing players and great writing. Those small minded people who think "Morning Dance" defines this band's identity are sadly mistaken.
Spyro gyra at their best (that is live rather than in the studio). I have an old cassette with Spyro Gyra from the jazz festival in Stockholm the same year, recorded from analog radio. It gives me the chills every time I listen to it, especially the wonderful solos from Julio Fenandez.
Without any doubt at all, Spyro Gyra are my all-time favourite Fusion band competing and bettering the so-called 'Best' like Chick Corea's many incarnations. As a bassist myself, I adore Scott Ambush!!!
