Another great feature you get from summoning the freighter is the system-wide exocraft teleporter. You have to have it installed obviously, but once you do, you can summon your various vehicles when ever needed. Perfect for scanning for POI. Now if we could just get access to all scanners from one place!

If you’ve got storage rooms on your freighter and it’s in the system you can transfer into those from a planet. Open the freighter storage tab then d-pad left and right to select storage required then use triangle to “pull” from your exosuit. If you’ve named the storage containers that shows up in the storage list. You can also transfer out as well. Dope! (You need the Matter Beam installed on the freighter)

Thanks for the tips! There are so many great details about this game, many can remain hidden to many players for years. I'd say probably the biggest treasure trove of tips is actually right there in the game menu. If you read fully through the game guide, I think it actually tells you every one of these tips in this vid. And I don't say that to make you or anyone feel silly. I honestly haven't even finished reading it myself since it's so huge and I read it here and there and can forget things. Maybe I read it on my last save on ps4 some years ago, but still learning / relearning things reading through it on my ps5 save.
There's also a ton of options for tuning your game to how you like it, like survival, combat difficulty, crafting, even things like turning off white screen flashes, or switching to left/right handed view.
The other great way to learn tons of tricks in NMS or any game for that matter is to look thoroughly through everything the game may be telling you on screen, in menus, little pop up notices, etc. I've been doing this for years, and I'll still miss things from time to time, just like you mentioned, and see it way later and be like "what, they had a button for this right there in the menu".
I've seen tons of folks on youtube miss so many things a game is telling them right on the screen and then be lost and confused wondering how to do this or that. To feed the lost confusion to your pet squid is to be thoroughly observant - it really helps.
Here's some things the game doesn't necessarily tell you:
    - Could be obvious to some, but could get totally missed by others I've heard - you can manually select where you want to add mod slot upgrades (technology or cargo). I've heard some people thought they didn't have that option, so they had to fill their cargo to the max (loong journey) before it would start upgrading their tech.
    - To get the longest survival time out of your tech in hostile environments (or even just underwater), install at least one hazard / water oxygen upgrade (it will give you a shield that drains and can be refilled with resources), let your standard hazard protection deplete fully, then let your normal shields deplete, then recharge just the hazard shield unit and both your suit shields and hazard protection will regen on their own without you needing to recharge separately.
    - underwater - candle kelp and submerged relics (hadal cores) will recharge your oxygen too.
    - not a trick but funny and fun - if you stand right on top of one of those underwater geothermal vents (where you get crystal sulphide), you will go absolutely flying when it blows, straight into the sky if it's close to the water surface.
    - I'm sure most all players know the melee jet boost, but new folks may not and it's a total game changer. Melee and immediately (or slightly delayed depending on your gear) use your jet pack to quickly fly around town.
    - Charging weapons - small, but possibly some people might totally miss how to charge the blaze javelin or neutron cannon since if you press the trigger all the way and hold, it just fires normally. You have to press R2 (fire trigger) only part way and hold charge. Release or fully press trigger to fire. At least that's how my game is.
    - The 1st person starship view holographic HUD is actually fully functional and will track ships and points of interest around you in 3D.
    - Manual space combat - Of course if you just use auto target lock in space combat, you just toggle or hold a trigger and that's all there is to it. If you'd like to fight with manual skills, there's good tips in the guide under space combat and it also really helps to use free look (right stick) to look at your target as they fly by to help keep them in view, even if your ship's maneuvering can't keep up with them at times, you can usually keep their ship or at least their jet stream in view.
    - destroyed ships will often drop loot, but you need to fly quite close to where they blew up to grab it or it will disappear.
    - When building and using camera view (L3), you can continue past the camera bubble boundary by double tapping L3.
    - You can summon your creature pet on space stations and the anomaly. No function other than for fun that I know of, but I was blown away. Hundreds of hours and I never thought about trying this on a space station.
    - if you want to climb a huge super steep mountain super fast, ride your creature. For whatever reason, the steeper the slope the faster they'll climb.
    - squadrons - if you haven't unlocked them yet and are trying to find out how (I figure it should be in the guide, but I couldn't find anything there) you need a freighter first, then go to the bridge terminal that says manage fleet / squadron, then unlock the slots for a fighter squadron, then you can hire various npcs.
    - Universal storage access - you can access your bulk storage 0-9 from anywhere they show up, even other player bases or npc freighters (if they have them installed). Mostly useful in the earlier game before you get your own freighter and enough frigate modules to unlock the matter beam.
    - Outpost / point of interest notice - the little notices that pop up and play a little tune, when walking/navigating a planet on the ground, seem to consistently be near a landmark within ~400m.
Hope you all have a blast

Something to try if you want, when you call in your freighter from the ground it is inside the atmosphere , it is only when in this situation that you can actually walk all the way to the edge of your freighter and jump off. I suggest you put yourself in creative mode so you don't die. Makes for a fun video.

    • @Aku-mia
      @Aku-mia 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yea that is so damn cool. I was so stoked when I first found that out. Especially since I found that before the endurance update (or whichever it was) that let you walk out onto your freighter. I was standing on one of my frigates and wondered if I could jump down to my mothership...low and behold, it was possible. Then why not down to the planet. Only in no man's sky can you do something like that. So freaking cool, even if it's just for the fun of it. I hope they patch it in at some point so you can walk around on your whole freighter without taking dmg slowly. It'd be cool to explore it without dying in 5 minutes.

PC controls are the same as xbox (which is really the same as playstation buttons, just different names) IF you are using a controller. :)
in first person, in ship, view you can see more settings and such in the cockpit screens.. so that "balance / weapons / engines....." feature actually works faster and is more evident.... also you can see when something starts scanning you about a minute before the game actually says anything, there is a little circle like countdown, then it says "warning hostile scan detected" i find it very handy, if i see something is scanning me, i get out in the clear, so i can have proper room for a "discussion" with them.

  • @briwanderz

8:15 holy milk producing quadrupeds bat man... thank you.. i thought the ingredient storage was part of the freighter storage, i seemed to suddenly get it at the same time i got my freighter on that playthru... then i couldn't access it, then i could... i thought the game was just bugging out again. but it being in the "BBQ grill" does make more sense. (still find it odd, THAT doesn't require any fuel, but i'm not complaining)
does seem more people need to know that if you scan all of the creatures on a planet, you get a decent amount of nanites for "completing" the list in your discoveries for the planet... but you need to go to the list of creatures (aka fauna) and click at the top where it says "15/15........ click to collect bonus 2,500 nanites" the amount varies quite a bit depending how many creatures on the planet, a planet with only one creature is of course only like 100 nanites, somewhere around 12-15 you get about 2,500 nanites, just for THAT click... plus then 'upload' your discoveries is about 3 nanites per ALL discoveries since you last uploaded... plus talk to the right person in the anomaly and get another bit of nanites too. scanning is such a money maker, especially with a bunch of S and X class upgrades.

Well, some of these features were added after I started playing NMS, so I am not surprised you did not know about them if you did not read carefully the change-logs of each update.
For example Diverting power on your starship was added in Echoes update (August 2023) and given that at that time I already had a fully S-Class upgraded starship, I did not really find it useful. Summoning freighter from planets surface was added long after the freighters were added to the game (can't remember what update it was to be honest). Crafting trees were added in Waypoint update (October 2022)...

only just realized there are flight controls you can use in a space battle (such as sharp turns etc). Think I just spun around on the spot trying to line things up and this was causing the PS4 to consistently crash around freighter battles and made it a Sisyphean task to shoot anything down.

Yea what bunkz said about the map highlighting and showing the names of systems you visited has been my expereince too. If you're wondering how to mark systems or certain locations on a planet to come back to later since you could 100% forget how to get there with trillions of systems - the few ways I know are to:
      - build a base in that system (even just the base computer and nothing else). Bases should always show up in the teleporter systems list I believe (not sure if there's a limit if you build like 100 bases?) and they will be marked on the galaxy map.
      - Throw down a portable save beacon and that will be visible while in the same system and sometimes on the galaxy map (but they might disappear at some point?)
      - Go into photo mode and look for the portal glyph id in the lower left and save a screen shot or write it down (descriptions of the glyph names can be found on wikis). If it isn't on screen, press triangle (show/hide hud) until it shows up. You can use that code at portals to travel back to that system or any system you get the id of once you've gathered all 16 glyphs from fallen traveler graves.
      - You can manually mark down a location on a planet if you don't feel like putting a base or beacon there simply by writting down the latitude/longitude coordinates that show up in the analysis visor or on your starship's display (in 1st person). Enjoy
