I hate that dislikes are gone. As a student who frequently looks up videos for help with projects and work at school, not having dislikes makes finding the right video extremely difficult.
Apparently there is a browser tool that makes dislikes visible again. This may of not be use after TH-cam disabled dislikes as people kinda stopped disliking videos because it has lost meaning, you can still see helpful dislikes on videos before de purge, hope this helps you out.

Exactly what I was worried about, I'm really glad the bad news didn't actually "ruin" the good. This is still a net positive in my book, especially compared to the usual news coming from TH-cam.
Yknow what, I used to be for NFTs at the very beginning, but seeing it getting blown up and regarded as “the new economy” quickly burnt me tf out. Im an artist myself and thought at first that NFTs was a really cool way for the art community to branch out (not talking about NFTs replacing commissions, because we all know that argument is trash) , but man seeing so much artwork just being stolen to rake in billions, and most other NFTs just being mass produced with no thought into the creative process, it just makes me so sad man. I don’t even really care about the other arguments, NFTs are just another crypto scam at this point made by sweaties trying to make the next bitcoin. I’m happy about Mark though, the guy deserved this big W after everything.

In the last year cryptocurrency energy consumption has skyrocketed and it undoubtedly has to do with NFTs becoming mainstream enough for multi billion dollar companies & A list celebrities to take notice. The energy they use largely comes from non-renewable resources, therefore, they contribute to environmental destruction

Everytime something "New" comes out (Twitch, TikTok, NFTs) they always try to jack that trend, but make it so lacking, so unusable, so BORING that it's basically just a parody of the real thing. Honestly I feel the same way, when I read in the article about the dislike button being removed and how it was such a good choice, I wanted to punch the screen, then they were talking about NFT... I love TH-cam but at the same time it's the worst thing ever!

I love TH-cam, but only in the sense that I love an open, accessible and widely used video-hosting service. I think TH-cam in it's current form is one of the worst versions of this service that could possibly exist, and it continues to get worse constantly. But it's still the standard. I'm here for my favorite creators, not the platform itself. I really wish an actual competitor to TH-cam existed so they'd stop abusing their monopoly(well, basically a monopoly).

It’s sad to see a company like TH-cam sink so low. Defending a creator is fantastic, but it feels like we’re celebrating what should be the bare minimum. And this is also the only instance I’ve seen them actually take the side of a creator. Ever. And with the announcement of adding NFTs, it really makes you question where the future of this site is going.
I just wanna say this: Actually TH-cam protects you against stupid copyright laws, you cannot even imagine how stupid and ridiculous they really are, companies can sue you if u use some type of color or even if u CREATE A MEME. A new platform for videos just wouldn't work, not enough funds, popularity/recognition, ect. Although TH-cam does have a lot of issues with their platform, they also have some extremely beneficial impacts.
Maybe the problem lies in the fact that new platforms do already exist but people would rather moan and complain on youtube than move to a new platform

I used to do online medieval roleplay with this guy back in 2016, and we still voice-call occasionally. He now works as an intern at youtube in la and he was telling me how absolutely no one he knew liked the removal of the dislike button. Some people there have made arguments for it like how statistically its the most negative thing on youtube or whatever, but its such a strange thing to simply refuse any criticism for.
I like how none of them thought that some videos are potentially harmful, so removing the dislike counts would make the people fell victim to these videos. Thus showing... TH-cam doesn't care about the people's online safety.

I think an excellent example of TH-cam being an abhorrent and slimy wretch is looking back on a video Charlie made titled "I talked With The CEO of TH-cam". What was initially presented as a hopeful and possible breakthrough to TH-cam and its creators turned out to be façade TH-cam set Charlie up to represent. That entire situation with the phone call was classic damage control and telling him what he wanted to hear, and then having Charlie present these false promises to the public. It reminded me too much of an event that happened at my Highschool where an athlete repeatedly sexually harassed women, and the school refused to punish him. A walkout ensued and when students arrived to the board of education, they did the exact same thing TH-cam did, damage control and pretended to care. Nothing was changed, the harasser in question never got punished, and it was all swept under the rug. When I first watched Charlie's video where he talked to the CEO, I felt so disheartened knowing that it was all a giant lie. TH-cam will never change and it's extremely depressing.

This proves there are some youtube staff (low tier I believe) that actually care and try to help in every situation the best possible way, then there are some bigshots( CEOs for example) that are just doing it the worst way possible, but as everything there is good and bad, so yeah anyway I'm super happy about what they did with Mark but seriously, NFTs?
I feel that too in some capacity, but the executives definitely don’t make it easy for the platform since they are so tone-deaf with everything that the community wants and doesn’t want. I’m just hoping for something big to happen so TH-cam can have competition and hopefully see myself less on this platform if there is a big competitor.

There's also the fact that creators could already decide whether likes or dislikes are displayed. TH-cam's obvious lie regarding their reasoning behind removing dislikes is partly why people are pushing back so hard against it.
Glad to hear about Mark, lets hope we start hearing more stories that have a somewhat positive conclusion. As for the NFTBS, granted I've not looked into what their plan is, but I've seen a bunch of companies mention it with no actual plan just to get a rise in stock, hopefully it's ends up just being that. And I don't know about everyone else but I've actively started using the dislike button more since youtube got rid of the count.

People need to understand that they aren’t gonna change until it starts affecting their business. All TH-camrs need to do a “strike” and start protesting against what TH-cam is doing, they literally just ignore what we want.
Here's the thing about that.. Google runs TH-cam at a loss. It never was about the money to them, it was about having a monopoly on video sharing. Google couldn't care less if every TH-camr on the site went on strike, they'd bleed the money they put into TH-cam without caring. So long as they own the platform and there is no one else that can compete with them, Google won't give a shit.

Thanks for this update on this whole situation it was really helpful, but something I just don't get about NFT'S are if it's a drawing of an ape, or drawing of anything, why do people give it so much value paying hundreds of thousands for art, like having the ownership or whatever on the image isn't worth that much, but I don't fully know how NFT'S work so maybe it's more valuable than I think
Yeah, for me TH-cam was awesome around 2006-2010! All I watched were Kingdom Hearts 2 AMVs, TH-cam Poop, Robot Chicken, and sometimes messed-up gory shit!

The thing about Japan is that it actually has really archaic laws when it comes to copyright. They basically don't even have a fair-use law at all- companies in Japan can take your videos down at any point if it has gameplay, screenshots, or material from them.

The only criticism I've seen has been on his hypocrisy when it comes to animal abuse, on the one hand he has gone after TH-camrs who endanger their pets, like that hamster squid game video, which is great, but on the other hand he directly profits from way worse abuse on a much larger scale through his affiliation with MrBeast Burger.

I wish platforms would admit that they're doing certain things purely to benefit large companies... Same with political figures.. if these guys would just come out and say "hey guys, news station channels (for example) were complaining to us about their dislike ratios and instead of changing their content they just started to mount pressure on us so we decided to completely remove the dislike button so theyd leave us alone" the community would respect them a lot more for at least being transparent lol
Lol that wouldn't work at all. first of all, we like to think that we want companies to be honest but if they were completely honest a few people might respect them but majority of the public would hate them even more because the truth in these cases would be against them. As for your news channel example, I don't think it would be wise for a platform to just out their clients/users, this would just create distrust between TH-cam and its creators and advertisers and if there is distrust then there won't be any respect either. Although I don't agree with TH-cam's decision but the way they are going about it seems right to me by using the target hate excuse.
Yeah but if we were to take your example, that certain news station channels would be bombarded by the masses and it would create even more chaos. Transparency is needed, but you have to conduct it in a "smarter" way (for a lack of a better word) rather than outing a news station channel amd just completely shifting blame.

Another important thing to consider is in Japan many individuals wouldn't consider things that we do fair use. Their culture is different and I have seen many people actually glad that Mark got his videos taken down. Very happy to know things got better for him.

@Ayaan26 for firefox it’s called return youtube dislike button. I don’t remember what it was called for chrome but if you search in extensions for youtube dislike, it’ll probably show up. It works flawlessly. And i agree, i use the dislike ratio to get a general opinion on the quality of the video

Dislikes help in tutorials in finding if its useful or not, alot of dislikes? Not useful, and now we only have likes and time to waste to find out if its actually useful. TH-cam weren't explicitly helping out Mark, it was a convenient by-product, they were stopping a bad precedent being set that would have made way for future similar claims. They have to imagine the worst possible scenario if Toei's claims were upheld. This is not feasible. The amount of computing power they would need is not imaginable. For reference Mr. Beast would probably need to 1000x his net worth to even dream about doing something like that. Creating platforms with the size of TH-cam is only possible atm. for trillion dollar companies.

I hate that dislikes are gone. As a student who frequently looks up videos for help with projects and work at school, not having dislikes makes finding the right video extremely difficult.
Apparently there is a browser tool that makes dislikes visible again. This may of not be use after TH-cam disabled dislikes as people kinda stopped disliking videos because it has lost meaning, you can still see helpful dislikes on videos before de purge, hope this helps you out.

Yknow what, I used to be for NFTs at the very beginning, but seeing it getting blown up and regarded as “the new economy” quickly burnt me tf out. Im an artist myself and thought at first that NFTs was a really cool way for the art community to branch out (not talking about NFTs replacing commissions, because we all know that argument is trash) , but man seeing so much artwork just being stolen to rake in billions, and most other NFTs just being mass produced with no thought into the creative process, it just makes me so sad man. I don’t even really care about the other arguments, NFTs are just another crypto scam at this point made by sweaties trying to make the next bitcoin.
I’m happy about Mark though, the guy deserved this big W after everything.

I love TH-cam, but only in the sense that I love an open, accessible and widely used video-hosting service. I think TH-cam in it's current form is one of the worst versions of this service that could possibly exist, and it continues to get worse constantly. But it's still the standard. I'm here for my favorite creators, not the platform itself. I really wish an actual competitor to TH-cam existed so they'd stop abusing their monopoly(well, basically a monopoly).

I think an excellent example of TH-cam being an abhorrent and slimy wretch is looking back on a video Charlie made titled "I talked With The CEO of TH-cam". What was initially presented as a hopeful and possible breakthrough to TH-cam and its creators turned out to be façade TH-cam set Charlie up to represent. That entire situation with the phone call was classic damage control and telling him what he wanted to hear, and then having Charlie present these false promises to the public.
It reminded me too much of an event that happened at my Highschool where an athlete repeatedly sexually harassed women, and the school refused to punish him. A walkout ensued and when students arrived to the board of education, they did the exact same thing TH-cam did, damage control and pretended to care. Nothing was changed, the harasser in question never got punished, and it was all swept under the rug.
When I first watched Charlie's video where he talked to the CEO, I felt so disheartened knowing that it was all a giant lie. TH-cam will never change and it's extremely depressing.

I feel that too in some capacity, but the executives definitely don’t make it easy for the platform since they are so tone-deaf with everything that the community wants and doesn’t want.

There's also the fact that creators could already decide whether likes or dislikes are displayed. TH-cam's obvious lie regarding their reasoning behind removing dislikes is partly why people are pushing back so hard against it.

People need to understand that they aren’t gonna change until it starts affecting their business. All TH-camrs need to do a “strike” and start protesting against what TH-cam is doing, they literally just ignore what we want.
Here's the thing about that.. Google runs TH-cam at a loss. It never was about the money to them, it was about having a monopoly on video sharing. Google couldn't care less if every TH-camr on the site went on strike, they'd bleed the money they put into TH-cam without caring. So long as they own the platform and there is no one else that can compete with them, Google won't give a shit.
That can only hurt the creators. TH-cams current focus is on the large companies, and they are actively pushing aside the small creators. Do you really think that if a strike were to occur, someone would actually give a shit? Lol, no, it’s the other way around.

Thanks for this update on this whole situation it was really helpful, but something I just don't get about NFT'S are if it's a drawing of an ape, or drawing of anything, why do people give it so much value paying hundreds of thousands for art, like having the ownership or whatever on the image isn't worth that much, but I don't fully know how NFT'S work so maybe it's more valuable than I think

They basically don't even have a fair-use law at all-

The only criticism I've seen has been on his hypocrisy when it comes to animal abuse, on the one hand he has gone after TH-camrs who endanger their pets, like that hamster squid game video, which is great, but on the other hand he directly profits from way worse abuse on a much larger scale through his affiliation with MrBeast Burger.

first of all, we like to think that we want companies to be honest but if they were completely honest a few people might respect them but majority of the public would hate them even more because the truth in these cases would be against them.
As for your news channel example, I don't think it would be wise for a platform to just out their clients/users, this would just create distrust between TH-cam and its creators and advertisers and if there is distrust then there won't be any respect either.
Although I don't agree with TH-cam's decision but the way they are going about it seems right to me by using the target hate excuse.

Another important thing to consider is in Japan many individuals wouldn't consider things that we do fair use. Their culture is different and I have seen many people actually glad that Mark got his videos taken down. Very happy to know things got better for him.

@Ayaan26 for firefox it’s called return youtube dislike button. I don’t remember what it was called for chrome but if you search in extensions for youtube dislike, it’ll probably show up. It works flawlessly. And i agree, i use the dislike ratio to get a general opinion on the quality of the video

This is not feasible. The amount of computing power they would need is not imaginable. For reference Mr. Beast would probably need to 1000x his net worth to even dream about doing something like that. Creating platforms with the size of TH-cam is only possible atm. for trillion dollar companies.
