Re: Regals tribute, the thought of Benoit being involved was put in his mind literally seconds before he sat down to record his tribute...
As Regal was going into the room to record his tribute, JBL was coming out and said to Regal 'You don't think he had anything to do with it, do you' which absolutely stunned Regal, which probably led to the tribute that Regal made.
It never crossed Regals mind until JBL planted the seed in his mind about it...
Regal addressed this on his own podcast recently

Chris Benoit was one of my all time favourite wrestlers especially during his Smackdown years as I felt that was his best work from an in ring performance perspective and I also loved his feud on Raw with Evolution during most of 04 and early 05. It is a real shame about what he did to himself and his family as his shocking actions have forever tainted his legacy, so I completely understand and respect why wwe wouldn't want to mention or acknowledge him. I will always remember him as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and one of the toughest guys to ever lace up a pair of boots but as the person who he was in his final days, not so much as its not something I want to acknowledge due to the nature of what happened with him and his family.

After Eddie's death they protrayed Rey Jr. as the guy who suffered the most (which made no sense after the Dominik storyline). Benoit would have been the perfect pick for that role. Maybe that would have helped him if he could have had all those title wins "for Eddie" instead of just the HHH match and that's it ...

Been waiting for this one, on the one hand you have one of the most gifted, raw talented, technical wrestlers of all time and on the other, a monster who did the absolute unthinkable and unforgivable
This tragedy completely turned the WWE into turmoil and quite rightly made it more accountable to the welfare of its employees, even though they do deserve better
From most accounts, Benoit was well beloved and thoroughly respected and one of the nicest people outside the ring
IMO it was a collective of things but mostly down years of head trauma from diving headbutts and unhealthy obsession with medical drugs/steroids cause a psychotic cocktail of rage
I will always try to remember him for the wrestler he was and not the monster he became

He definitely had the symptoms of psychosis. I watched a documentary on Benoit that said he was paranoid and felt that people were following him. He would take different routes when driving and write strange letters in a diary addressing Eddie Guerrero who had already passed away. behind the curtain, all the wrestlers who knew him, worked with him and traveled with him all said that he was a great guy. If he wanted to kill people, I am sure he would have killed others before his own family. Clearly, something out of character happened.

You were very professional during this video and it was interesting to see too
I was there at backlash 2007 with my brother I enjoy the show a lot and MVP and Chris had a very good match in my opinion. When Chris came out to the ring people were cheering like crazy. But I never imagined what happened next two months later or back in 2004 when he won the world title. If anyone had told me that benoit would do what he did in 2004 I had said you were crazy. No matter what side you take it's going to be a terrible tragically. I'm keeping my comment professional too good job on the video

I can only imagine. WWE's cinematography as a way to deliver the matches on TV suck big time. WCW was always superior in that sense, even in the Russo final years: a stiff punch would translate in TV to a damn painful blow, while in WWE TV it usually seems fake (take Big Poppa Pump for instance, yes he was sloppy and all that but even his stiff punches kicks and lariats looked weak in WWE while in WCW they looked brutal).
Seeing those same matches live is a total different beast, the intensity is palpable even in the weakest performers. Now Benoit was a total beast intensity-wise, his matches were the excpetion to the rule in WWE, they always looked legit painful af, now imagine seeing him live. One of a kind performer, so tragic what happened at the end, it would have been nice to see him carrying WWECW for a while and retire happily ever after...

It was rough for the tribute show. It started off with them talking about how much of a family man he was and how much he supported others, both the wrestlers and commentators at ringside
When you start to notice something is off is with Edge. He seems a bit shaken, which is understandable, but towards the end he breaks down similarly to how Benoit did at Eddie's tribute. I'm paraphrasing, but he says something along the lines of "Things are really confusing right now, but I love that guy" before concluding his interview at a loss for words. Others begin to change their tone, still paying tribute but straying away from the family aspect.

WWE also edited the closing moments of WrestleMania 20. Benoit no longer celebrates with Daniel and Nancy, and the moment where he hugs Daniel has been completely wiped. I think it just goes from him hugging Eddie to the credits. Rightfully so, but it's another edit to point out. Absolutely chilling when you think about it.

It's really one of those unspoken realities in WWE. There will always be that big elephant in the room when speaking about past champions or "great technical wrestlers". Chris Jericho once said that he can't relive possibly the greatest match of his career in any retrospective because it was against Benoit. Bret Hart had few highlights in his time with WCW, but two great moments come to mind: his match against STING and the Owen Hart tribute match against Benoit. The man was so prominent in the ATTITUDE and Ruthless Aggression eras that editing the library is abundant. In some ways it's necessary, but like all human nature, the more you try to hide something the more they will want to see it.

  • @Tuomas85
    @Tuomas85 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Another bit that is edited in WWE network is Summerslam 2003 Fatal 4 Way match. In DVD when Rhino pics up Benoit and drives him in to the corner Cole says "And here's Benoit! The Vicious Rabid Wolverine!" but in wwe network you can only hear Cole say "And here's Benoit!" and the rest of the line edited out.

Putting aside the death if Benoit, his wife and child, he was legitimately one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever. In that respect, hus name deserves to be mentioned.
Regardless of whether anyone believes either that he suffered from severe CTE, or that they were murdered by a third party, that doesn't change what he did in the ring.
In fact, if it was severe CTE that caused him to do such a horrible thing, then shouldn't we simply acknowledge it; and focus the blame and enmity on the medical condition, instead of blaming Chris as if it was who he was? We're talking about a disease that severely impacts the brain's ability to function normally. It's not something that any sane person can simply dismiss.
If it was a third party, then obviously we shouldn't be afraid to laud Chris' accomplishments in the ring, because it would mean that he and his family were victims of murder; and their names will have been dragged through the mud for the sake of lies.
In either case, nobody can claim that Chris, in perfect mental health, murdered his wife and child. Anyone who claims as much is a subhuman piece of trash!
