But it doesn’t matter, the point is the dad is trying to be the best he can for his child, trying to understand the child but teach him or her what makes good character and discipline. He just simply cares and doesn’t want his child to go into the world without skills or confidence, or to see him get hurt. It’s about what makes a good man, even if the son doesn’t grow into a “man”.

I like how the son is hesitant, but is willing to accept what his dad wants him to do, simply because he’s his dad and he wants to spend time with him. At least, that’s the vibe I’m getting
It's also new for dad and for all these people in the queue. They want to be better fathers, so they decide that fishing as a stereotypical "manly" activity is a great idea and sons follow along, because they crave approvals of their fathers. At the end both were still kind of "meh" about fishing, but they enjoyed it anyway as an activity to spend time together, so it still turned out ok.

I think the Dad series is the best by far. I was strange to my parents, new generation is strange to me, it's a cycle. The son could have a lot of problem with this personality, but the parents presence and support make him go forward even not being the 'ideal man', but turning into a good human.

I love this series, it shows very well modern parent-child interactions, the dad tries to do his best to connect with his son, and the son appreciate his dad efforts, they are two different generations with different perspectives about life, but despite that they can have a good talk. Congratulations for your work, keep on that.
This series reminds me of my 12 year old son. He is a decent kid, absolutely hates going out camping or hiking. The other kids are into it, but he will refuse if at all possible. He has a problem with his brothers and sisters excelling in everything and he feels inadequate when he compares himself to them so he just quits. A few months ago, we enrolled him into a swim team and he seems to enjoy that. Although more expensive than the other sports his siblings have taken, it is unique for him and he is quickly becoming the best swimmer in our family. Hopefully, it will become something that will build his confidence.

My dad died unexpectedly around this time of year 7 years ago. He was eating at the restaurant I was named after where he & my mom had their first date. Sudden cardiac arrest.
Once in a while I still have dreams about him taking me out on a boat, teaching me to fish & showing me how to catch lobsters in a net. Thanks for being my dad, Dad.

I've been a bad son to my dad. My father isn't very talkative but he's always tried to make a man out of me. I was too rebelious at that time and I isolated myself from my family. I did everyting myself and learned many lessons, but now with all my experience, living abroad, working since I was 18, paid my own studies, I've matured a lot and I really regret I didn't involve my dad more into my life. Now he's 64, we still have time but I can't help but feel ashamed of my young stupid self, being too egotistic and thinking I knew better than he did while I was just a young imbecile.
The ultimate thing dads want is to see you prosper and mature as a good human so if he sees that in you he will ultimately be happy

It’s so rare these days for a father and son to have time to spend with one another especially with how technology and awful influences can have a hold on them. A father is such a great being to have in a kid’s life to teach and guide them to make better decisions. This is such an interesting series for me, because the father seems to be doing his best but feels as though he's failing because his son isn't "normal", meanwhile his son feels perfectly fine and comfortable as he is. Traditionally masculine things just don't hold much appeal to him, but he's happy to spend time with his father, he's happy to be praised by him, and 80% of the time he actually just looks happy. Once his father realizes he's not failing him, and that his concept of what is normal is just colored by his own experiences, he can start to be an even better father to him than he already is.

I think the son has more maturity than the dad gives him credit for. Everyone is different. Some will have the urge to be active like the father while others like to take things at a slower pace like the son. We are all value things differently. Not having an interest in women doesn't make you less of a man. Always stay true to yourself and happiness will find you.

The dad doesn’t understand not wanting to engage in those kinds of activities and sees his son as undeveloped as shown by his remark about how maybe he hasn’t hit puberty yet. I think it’s a generational thing. The world he grew up in is very different from the one he’s raised his son.

Especially when a system will force him to get a job, pay alimonies etc. Also why he had to oblige her? Two sides of the coin my dudes- when I was a kid I really liked playing video games on my PC, my mom and dad used to always scold me whenever I sat in my room and would basically always find a reason to make a mess of the day. It was as far from polite as it could be- they'd just rush into my room, saying I was this or that or whatsoever, would hit me often too (violence was a common thing, just a way of raising your children I guess). You know- I was always told that I have no hobbies, no friends, no intrests, no future (I had all those things, though of some I would realise years later) and that all I'm good for is leaving them alone. And don't get me wrong, I was a pretty active kid, I used to play soccer and had top grades in elementary school so in normal household there would bo no complaints here. Heck, I was born with hearing defficiency and I remerber that one time I was in a car with my dad and he just started hitting me in the head saying stuff like "why can't you just be normal" or something like that. Full package basically where they said I was a piece of shit because they resented I was ever alive. And look at them now. Hate-filled old people in their 50ies, my dad is jobless and my mom is working a dead end job on an assembly line. Both of them spend more time in internet than I ever did, there are even days when my dad does not even get out of bed. Again, they are fully capable individuals, just akin to the children from your video, hopeless in their own devices. You could make a point that they deserve that rest because they worked overtime to raise me but no- it's been like that for past 20 years or so. They barely make ends meet but mot because they are somehow unable to but because they just don't want to change their lifestyle where you spend all the time watich TV or internet. Me on the other hand has got a really good paid job and other hobbies, drawing for egample. What I'm trying to say is that the roles have reversed basically since the time I was a kid. Many young people are lost today and I see that too, but it is not generation-specific. It has always been like that, just some don't realise that those living failures have grown up too.

Some people aren't meant to be parents. My friend had pretty irresponsible parents when she was growing up. However, she learned exactly what not to do from them. She leads a fulfilling life while her parents are still acting like immature kids. Silver lining I suppose.

I’m 24, very short, quiet and blunt and am the most unmanly, feminine looking guy ever. I also would rather take things slow and lost a gf over that. The way this kid speaks just resonated with how I interact with my family.

I relate to this. My high school experience was so unbelievably awful that my father once said that the fact that I didn’t give up is ‘nothing short of heroic’. To this day I don’t know why I didn’t, I’m glad I didn’t, but if I wholeheartedly believe that if I had to live my life again 1000 times, I would have given up 1000 out of 1000 times. The fact I saw it through is nothing short of a miracle.

As a zoomer I have seen a good amount of guys going for that 'femboy' path because they don't have a square jaw, aren't 6'5 tall, aren't very big, are introverted or have been reaised dad-less. Back in the day men had to push through circumstanes, my mom wasn't loved by my parents and she was living with her grandparents and managed to become an awesome mom. My father was living with dismissive and cold father and he's crafty, knows a lot about DIY, cars and fixes his own things all the time, he's hardworking and focused. My dad's friend was raised not by his biological parents and was bullied throughout school and now he has his own successful business and collects and maintains classic cars.

Apparently if you do not fit the modern dating standards which are inflated means you're not worth anything - which is completely false. I think you didn’t understand the story. The femboy was the better “son” NOT failing his father, and the father isn’t failing him. But the other son was 35 and a failure dependent on his dad, despite being otherwise not different and feminine. The story was saying how just because you’re built different, doesn’t mean you’re not capable of being independent and strong and good. This dad can’t change how his kid is, but he doesn’t have to because the kid is trying and is happy and willing to learn what his dad has to offer. I accidentally picked up fishing right as the pandemic started and judging by the path the dad's young fellow went on, I have to say that I dodged a bullet by getting hooked on it.
It helped me socialize more with my father, gave me a nice hobby, I started going outside way more and overall set up a great basis for future masculine development.
My father was partially gone as a result of some events which I will never be able to fully understand because one side says thing X and the other says thing Y...I started to get closer with him primarily as a result of fishing and now I cherish every moment I get to spend with him.

this school series hits hard, growing up I was always stuck inside and since I lived with my mom I wasnt very physically involved in anything always until I visited my dad on weekends and he'd take me outside, usually Id resist going outside with people but never my dad and im glad I never did its given me many good moments, especially hits close to home with the kid having long hair like I do

This actually touched me. I see myself as one who has given up. I have been stuck in high school for 3 more years than I should because I just can’t complete the courses required. I don’t really desire anything and if not for my dad who is making me study I would just guit and NEET it out because I don’t see any point in going further.

I actually just watched a video yesterday from a channel called Academy of Ideas. The video was talking about how a lot of modern men have infantile mindsets because the world never gave them the opportunity to overcome difficulties in life. They never had their rites of passage to become a man during their youth.
I just want to tell you all, that life is full of suffering, but overcoming these difficulties make you stronger and give your life meaning. So don’t be afraid of taking on challenges.

This is absolutely true, this is the case for me actually since my Mom never let me actually do anything on my own but she also at the same time never took the time to sit down and talk with me about how I'm feeling, basically a Pet Mom (a Mom that maintains their child and that's it). Now naturally when it comes to difficult and new situations I'm always apprehensive of them, not seeing the worth in potentially failing and wasting time in something that I'll very likely not succeed in. But I'm taking steps to get better at that, the main worry is that I'll try, fail and grow resentful and negative-hearted. Only bad can come from those types of feelings unless I find a healthy outlet for them, but my dumb overthinking brain realizes that attempting to do just that is just coping for the fact that I was right and I failed cause I didn't have a good chance at succeeding. It's a cycle, but one I know that many young men feel so I'm not alone.

I really like this series, its wholesome to see a dad and a son Who may have a lot of differences in their education but the dad overcomes that and learns how to be a supportive father figure while still managing to do the things that he likes with his son. My father killed himself last year and he really tried to have good quality time with me even if i didnt shared his hobbies so seeing this really makes me Happy and remember those times. I also used to be a little different than other boys.. Long hair,mostly spent my time playing videogames and on Internet. Please make more of this series

Me and my father both love fishing and go regularly i think this made a very strong connection between us. I love my dad and try to make the most of every moment. This made me realize that I am very lucky to have such a great father and I hope everyone can experience it even if it is from someone else.

The way parents treat their kids is usually a self-fulfilling prophecy. While a parent shouldn't indulge their child's every whim or enable bad behaviors, they should treat their child well and respect them as an individual. If you constantly disparage them for failing your expectations like this other father, they will end up as a failure. Disparaging them doesn't help, you have to treat them like they're worthy of respect for them to succeed.
I’ve literally just renewed my fishing licence and got one for my dad on Father’s Day. He hasn’t been fishing since he went with his Dad as a teen. It was my grandad who taught me to fish when I was a teen too but he’s since been estranged from our family the last couple years and haven’t fished since. So I’m hoping it will be a good way for us to have some calm time away from our problems together and bond over a hobby we have both previously enjoyed.

I have a little but enough fishing experience to say this, if your hair's too long to swing it from behind and overhead, then try more swinging it horizontally, it'll have a less long distance mostly, but atleast it'll be farther from the hair. And also, when you want to throw the lure, make sure it's dangling close to the tip line ring (or whatever it's called) to not, again, get stuck in the hair or have other incidents.
And even then, most fishing rods are about 6 foot long, so there is'nt much to worry.

When I was 11 my father passed away due to throat and mouth cancer. When him and I go out we’d walk, it didn’t matter were or if There was a destination in mind we’d just walk and talk he was understanding and patient and if I had a problem big or small he’d give me any advice he could. When he was at the end of his life he couldn’t walk anymore and seeing him stuck in bed was painful he loved to walk and couldn’t do that anymore which was hard to see. He may be gone now but I still go on walks to remember him and because I learned to love walking like how he loved to walk

What I noticed is that Son never engages the conversation with his Dad. It's always Dad who makes a step forward and that's kinda sad for him. He is the typical 60-70's born dad, really manly, a hardworker and he wishes the best for his children but he tends to be overprotective toward them. He makes me think about my dad in a way
This series gives me hope. Even if the youth seems misguided, a good parent will give them the tools and time to make something of themselves in their own image, even if its not what mom or dad wants to see.

Never had a much of a dad but had a mentor who was around since my dad left. Though more patient he couldn't give me much guidance because he himself was in a tough spot but his constant fear and panic mongering at least kept me in the game.
Anyways, this video hit kinda close to home. Guess we're all allowed at least one major existential crisis.

I didn't know what the video was about until I read the text at the end. I've changed a lot, but I can say it happened to me as well. Giving up easily, refusing to grow up. I finally understood after many years that life is hard, as simple as it sounds, and u have to keep on fighting. There's no other way. Specially if u have plans and want them to move forward. I'm living with my grandma, she can pay for both of us to survive, but for how long? No idea.
I wanted to live on my own in another country, and for that to happen I need a college degree and work experience in the field I want to work in. It makes it easier for immigration. Something just happened to me today when I tried to enroll in a course. The HR didn't respond, they mixed a chat bot with a real human so I got confused to who I was talking to, and in the end I got no replies anymore so I couldn't get enrolled.
Turns out this college has some really bad management maybe? Both their system and their employees sucks. I've tried in another, and this time the employee spoke a cracked portuguese (my language), enrolled me in the wrong course and made another mistake sending me a wrong email. He was an idiot. I fixed things up by talking to "a manager", yeah, Karen-like move, right? Well it worked.
So I got disappointed after trying it in these two colleges and thing is, I looked at the reviews before anything and they were the two best online colleges we got available in Brasil with a rating of 4.5/5, one is even 4.8/5. Makes zero sense.
I've studied in another college before for about 1 year and a half, they made a lot of mistakes, their system was also pretty bad, they messed up an avaliation of mine, made me fail a course I was supposed to pass in, and that's when I got too fed up with their BS so I left.
Then, about three years later I've worked in one college and then after that I started working in the exact same college I was f***ed up in. I got experience in two different colleges and now I know how messed up they are. They're really bad, I don't know why their reviews are so positive. And from what I hear it only gets worse in "less prestigious" let's say it this way, other colleges.
But ya know, that's what I mean by life is hard. We don't have to gulp it all down because they're other people's mistakes, they should learn a lesson, but people can graduate even with all these issues, look at how many do. I did understand how messed things are but it doesn't mean I had to stop trying. After graduating there'll be no more need to go through these things, so I should've kept pushing. A year and a half, at least I endured this much so there won't be that many years left to finish the course. I'm looking to restore these old studies and get back in track.

Trying to identify myself with any of these characters, somehow I identify both as the father and the son.
You see, my father never talked to me about girls, puberty, feelings and that stuff, just about career and money, oh, and not making babies.
But if I ever be a father in my life, that Dad would be totaly realistic: trying to raise a son with some of the morals of his time, but not being a tyrant with his own child.
As a kid, I was somehow like his Son: small, terrible at sports, not very sociable, slow with girls and some people thought I was not into them, but that is far from the truth.
This Dad is doing his best, and I can only imagine how hard is to raise a child in this crazy world where taking care of ourselves is already hard enough.

God, I can't say I'm not somewhat guilty of giving up and wanting somebody else to care for me, I recently enrolled into a university as a whim, just bc I didn't want to start doing actual work. Been going out with lots of people of the opposite gender recently and that's been fine but idk. Makes me wonder if having too many options is part of the problem... I had a job for a bit but I didn't enjoy the grind, between that and my studies I was sleeping 3 hours a day, doing lots of things, but really having no time whatsoever for myself, that was annoying. I know that in my case at least, wanting something specific is holding me back greatly, I guess that having a lot more opportunities and a better quality of life in a way made me entitled.
I feel like I will never be like the adults surrounding me, no matter how old I get, and honestly? I don't want to.
At least you are capable of realizing that you have this perspective and understand that not having to "do actual work" is more of a privilege than we though when we were children. Depending on your live choices, adulthood might knock at your door even if you don't feel you want it to. If you really want to have somebody else take care for you, look for partners that want to provide and please avoid having children at all costs (even if you don't need to work in a job, raising a child is harder).
